Lore For Noobs - Varok Saurfang

- A member of the mighty Blackrock Clan and brother to Broxigar the Red, The first thing you must know about Saurfang is that Saurfang Knows all, Sees all, and Cleaves all.
Varok Saurfang is a true Orc warrior in every sense of the word. Filled with the bloodlust brought on by Mannoroths Blood Saurfang was brutal and merciless in his youth. However before he left Draenor he had a son with an unnamed Orc female and he promised her, that her son would stay behind and live untainted, he named his son Dranosh and left him with the Mag'har in Nagrand. After that he went off through the portal to kill and maim for the glory of the Horde. When Doomhammer took over the Horde he made Saurfang second in command much like Doomhammer used to be to Blackhand. As the Warchief's lieutenant Saurfang led countless assaults on the the humans of Azeroth. When the Horde lost the second war Saurfang did not go back to Draenor with the retreating Horde. Instead he was captured and placed in an internement where he dealt with his bloodlust like any other orc.
When he was broken out of the internement camp by Thrall and the Horde he was a new Orc, which was fitting cause it was a new Horde as well. He had overcome his bloodlust and realized the magnitude of his actions. After Grom lifted the Orcs bloodcurse Varok Saurfang helped many veterans overcome their own bloodlust. However Saurfang was not one to shy away from a battle either, he knew to kill for pleasure was wrong but when it came to kill or be killed he did not hesitate to swing the first axe. When the third war came Saurfang met the undead and demon legions with a warriors rage and a clear head. This made Saurfang a veteran of the First, Second and Third wars.
As the new Horde took its shape and Orgrimmar was built for a few years Saurfang stood at or near the gates and proclaimed the accomplishments of heroes to all the city. For example if you murdered a big ass dragon and brought its head to Saurfang he was there to make sure people knew it was you. When the Silithid awoke and threatened the world Saurfang was one of the commanders of the Might of Kalimdor, which was a group that was composed of Horde and Alliance working together to squash those freaky looking bugs. After that he returned to Orgrimmar to stand around AND BE AWESOME once more.
A few years passed and he was made commander of the Kor'kron guard which are the Warchiefs personal bodyguards. When the scourge returned instead of remaining in Orgrimmar he was sent with Garrosh and the Warsong Offensive to spearhead the Horde campaign in Northrend. It is believed Saurfang was sent with Garrosh to hopefully counter-act the rushed hot blooded actions of the future Warchief.
During the war against the Lich King however, Saurfangs son Dranosh was recruited as a commander in the Kor'kron Vanguard which was an offensive faction of the Kor'kron Guard sent to Northrend. Allied with the Alliance's 7th legion he and a human named Bolvar Fordragon sieged the gate into Icecrown, a gate called Angrathar or the wrathgate. While attacking the scourge forces there, Dranosh suffered a great betrayal and was killed by a forsaken apothecary. His body was not lost though and the scourge carried him away and raised Dranosh as a deathknight. Upon the Horde invasion of Icecrown Citadel Saurfang came face to face with his son, and with the help of some nameless heroes he was able to free his son from the Lich Kings control and give him a proper burial in Nagrand. He has since been ordered by Garrosh to take control of the Warsong Offensive in Northrend. - Zábava
I would have preferred for Varok Saurfang to have been proclaimed Warchief.

Need to correct you on one thing, Suarfang the Younger died at the hands of the lich king, it was Bolvar who died at the hands of the Foraken.

I feel so bad for Saurfang, first his brother then his son, not to mention constantly cleaning up Garrosh's mess. He should be Warcheif or at the very least given a holiday... Vashj'ir has nice beachs.

@forrenz I recon you are horde then? Cause at Saurfang heroes from both sides are there aswell. Saurfang sr. pops up after Jaina and Varian do and Varian let's Saurfang sr. take the body of his son back home for a funeral. So that's pretty mutch both aswell, which is also why I was asking :P

@Gojirarexall He was mostly stunned by the move, but not fully dead. Unlike Bolvar, he was tainted by the clouds and become Deathbringer Saurfang, the 4th boss in ICC and Bolvar was also captured by the Lich King but he was already cleanse of the taint by the Dragon's Flame, so he did not become a Deathknight, but instead, becomes the new Lich King.
One tiny mistake Pride. Dranosh was killed by the Lich King just before the Forsaken attacked. Not a huge thing, but I just really love the scene so I have watched it tons of times and memorised eerything but that speach by the Forsaken leader.

Saurfang is careful with his cleaves, slightly too much power and the space-time continuum is entirely obliterated, meaning he'd have to reboot the universe again, which is always a pain in the arse.
poor guy, he fought for most of his life and lost many allies but no other loss was harder than loosing his son =[
Saurfang's NPC appears to have a health bar but that is actually the number of people he is allowing to live. Notice if you attack him the number goes down.
He is still alive he was tired of Garrosh so he remained in Warsong Hold as part of the Horde's Northrend skeleton crew and as the leader of the Warsong Offensive and the Horde Expedition

There was another version of this but it was full of facts like that Saurfang cleaved the barrens in two and stuff like that. I watched it once but now I can't find it, anyone got a link?
after all the lore you see in the game with the trolls and vol'jin and so on, it seems that garrosh is a real douchbag, but after seeing this, idk what to believe
@MegaMintyMe even a more important question, why there isn't any npc of any description of him in world of warcraft? one of the biggest bad ass important orcs of all the horde, and he doesn't deserver a npc? really blizz?
Anyone know if there is an official lore thingy concerning whom killed the Lich King and Saurfang? Alliance or Horde I mean, either way Saurfang gets to take the body but still, just curious.

@HeadblowerFTW Dranosh Saurfang attacked the Lich King, was cut down, then Putress showed up and killed the rest with the plague, rememeber "Enough, let it be finished"

@alenadautry actually if youve ever seen the patch 3.3.3 video you would know that putress did kill both bolvar and dranosh and there assault, while the dead bodies siting infront of the wrathgate the lich king rose them as there own, that is why sylvannas and most of the undead were closely watched because of this betrayel.
i remember always seeing that dude and say i want his gear :)

@MegaMintyMe Because of his age, Thrall wanted someone young and popuar with the Orcs and that happened to be Garrosh. Saurfang is a war hero and very popular but he is old. Plus he is still in mourning of his son
I made a promise to his mother before she died, that I would cross the Dark Portal alone -- whether I lived or died, my son would be safe, untainted.
Today, I fulfill that promise.
WOW! How old is that guy? He survived 3 bigass wars and is still alive. Incredible considering the life expectency of an NPC is around 2 hours at most
Varok never died, as far as I'm aware. He simply "disappeared", but would it make sense if he somehow ended up on Argus where Turalyon and Alleria presumably reside?
If not, that would at least be ridiculously awesome :D

Gamon is a baller that managed to survive till Cata. He even managed to level up and reach Elite status by sitting in a bar drinking bubbly.
broxxigar the red is in my mind the most relentless ruthless wrathful and savage warrior no race can compare to his strenght and varok is his brother the title alone will make you famous in azeroth just imagine how deathwing would piss himself if broxxigar return:P

I can't say about Suarfang (I'm thinking closer to Horde), but the Lich King was probably an even split, since heroes from both sides are there afterwards.

Dranosh was killed (kind of) by the Lich King Arthas, not the scourge. It was Bolvar that was killed by..or badly wounded by the scourge's poison. He did raise him as a DK though.
Oh man, when you said "He named his son Dranosh" I was on the edge of my seat hoping you would say, "which means Heart of Draenor in orcish"
Pride, please get new writers! Saurfang's son was killed by the Lich King because he rushed in. It was only after that which Putress and the forsaken rebels attacked the scourge, lich king and horde. It was a cut scene, there's really no excuse this time.

Which was the best news I'd heard in a long time when I heard it, just wondering how they are going to convince us that Garrosh is more powerful than Deathwing. Unless there won't be any raids in MoP and all will be 5-man dungeons.
@TheFatNugz Putress is killed by the Alliance thru the Battle of the Undercity; Alextrasza and her dragonflight only purged the remaining forsaken rebels at the cliff of the incident. Likewise to burn all dead corpses before the LK would raise them to serve before him.

@HeadblowerFTW No it was the Lich King. Putress attacked AFTER Saurfang was already dead from charging at the Lich King.
@falconslayer777 Ripped apart but not away, which made his mind weaken which made it easy for the Lich King to convert him into a Deathknight.
$15 a month is tax Saurfang charges, just to enter his personal space.......

@PolarBearPunch actually I did understand it but still it doesn't make any sense. The Scourge was created by the Burning Legion to destroy Azeroth, are they implying that there is Scourge in other worlds and the absense of a Lich King will somehow open portals that will summon marching undead? Because the situation at Northrend will have to be controlled once and for all, unless the paladins like the idea of having thousands of undead willing to destroy all life in Azeroth.

@MadBloodKing well to me it looks like Garrosh is something in between the 2, but i do think that hes so in to power to the horde that hes neglecting everyone else then himself

im pretty sure dranosh wasnt killed by the rogue forsaken, he was killed by the lich king minutes before that attack
Dranosh wasn't killed by the forsaken before they came he charged the litch king and got his ass handed to him

Didn't his son die by the lich king and not the forsaken....? Did I get that wrong or something. His soul was absorbed into the lich king's blade.
If you google "orc death knight" you'll get a lot of results that show an orc holding Frostmourne and sitting on the Frozen Throne. The rumor I have heard was that this was concept art from a time when the plan was for Dranosh Saurfang to have taken Arthas's place as Lich King after the raid, which seems plausible and as a Horde lifer who mained an orc DK for some time kind of strikes me as a cooler choice than Bolvar.

+The[Basta] Nah. Ner'zhul had his physical body destroyed when he became the Lich King, he was just a psychic entity living in the armor until Arthas came along.
