      Well, if it refers to the original movies as canon, it NEEDS to ignore the reboot, because the reboot does not match with the original storie. It wasn't about "another" ghost busters team picking up the torch or even developing similar technology independently, it was supposed to be the first and only ghost busters team, the original reimagined. You can only continue one of those two storylines, not both at the same time.

    Quick side note - the original script for what would have been the “3rd Ghostbusters movie” was actually converted into a video game that featured on the PlayStation 3, not sure if it was an exclusive. It was written by all the original Ghostbusters (Ramis, Ackroyd, and Murray), and even featured all the actors - even Rick Moranis was in it. It pretty amazing. Surprised no one ever seems to mention it. It was the last “on-screen” get together of the entire crew in a really, really good story. Check it out.

    • @MegasXaos
      @MegasXaos Před 4 lety +22

      True, but the same could have been achieved with 18-20 year olds. At least then they would presumably know how to drive, know that wildly shooting a gun is dangerous, etc. etc. That also supposes that these kids will want to keep acting in the future, which isn't a given.
      As I said, cautiously optimistic.

      They used kids for story reasons cause of Harold Ramis death. It won't work as well if it was his kids since they probably be 30ish in the new film but grandkids there is a big enough gap to justify them existing. And like some say jyst like with Harry Potter if the film is successful they can grow into the roles with Paul Rudd being the adult mentor.
      It has potential to be the beginnings of a new franchise.

      I understand the reasoning for it, I am simply saying that making the kids ~4 years older would have been better in my opinion. It still allows Ramis' death to serve as an impetus for the story, it still allows a new franchise to be formed. However this feels like a cheap slapstick comedy (right now) because they are so young. Things many wouldn't find funny if an adult did it are funny because it's a kid.
      Only time will tell. I remain cautiously optimistic.

    Ghostbusters holds a special place in my heart. It became our Friday night movie when we visited my dad every other weekend. We got pizza and watched Ghostbusters.
    The 2016 version was hot garbage! It deserves to be ignored/forgotten.
    This trailer hit me right in the feels. My father passed away this year so maybe I’m overly emotional, but this trailer made me smile and think fondly of the original movie. I thought “man my father would had been excited for this movie to come out.” He probably would had taken my kids to go see it in the theaters.
    I’m so glad this movie is treating the originals with respect. It might not be the best movie, but it hit all the right notes with me so I will definitely be buying a movie ticket to see it!

    I'm excited about this movie, too, for many of the reasons you mention. But I actually think some of these later sequels and reboots would do better not to include the original cast. With Ghostbusters Afterlife, yes, I think it might enhance the movie and be very cool, because it seems like these kids are emulating the original team. But I definitely think the Star Trek reboot would have been more interesting without Leonard Nimoy in there for fan service, and the Terminator franchise might have actually been better if they stopped trying to put Arnold in every single one of them. That, to me, is one of the few redeeming things about Terminator Salvation: they continued with the concepts of that universe without constantly winking at the audience in that way. Just my two cents, but that type of thing often bothers me and feels like pandering to the audience instead of writing a more solid script that will keep the story compelling, regardless of who is in it. I've always been more interested in "What's it about?" than "Who's in it?" anyway. Great review, Drinker! Proud Patreon supporter! Keep 'em comin'!
