  • In this Video, I walk you through the most important things to know before you start upgrading your surron or talaria bike.
    I learnt all of these by finding out the hard way with trial and error - I have purchased these items and gone through many variations with my bike until I found out what works and what does not based on your bike configuration.
    1st Point - Wheel upgrades, 16" rear wheel weight comparing brands as well as tire size and weight based on your bike's current power output.
    2nd Point - Battery voltage, 72v vs. 60v... Surron and Talaria have different power trains so they demand a different battery and tune.
    3rd Point - Fork Upgrades, do you really need to change the forks on your MX4? If you re-spring and re-seal your fast ace forks they are great!
    Last Point - Don't chase power figures!, if you ride off-road 12kw is ample for anyone. 13kw is my personal sweet spot, tune is also important!
    Hopefully you found this video helpful and provided you with some good tips to bear in mind when upgrading your surron or talaria.

    For me you're the best CZcamsr for the Talaria
    I'm from France and have an mx3, I followed you since a couple months and I'm inspired by your bike to did mine. Fast ace forks, 60v70ah battery, 16" wheel, hand made engine guard because nobody make a good one in UE. I'm just waiting for the Torp controller to complete my build this summer
    Thanks for your videos mate 👌

    After 2 month off research I found ligther 16" rear tire then YuanXing.
    YuanXing is near 3.2kg, the new on I found is 2.98kg, mid solf, also made it tubless and took out tire lock, I think right now Im using lightest 16" rear wheel build (also using milk racing)

    • @stingyrogerr
      @stingyrogerr  Před 4 měsíci

      We originally had the same setup tubeless no bead lock but with mitas terraforce as we have upgraded batteries. We also cut all of the loose hairs off of the edge of the tire which saved a total of 0.17kg or 170g taking it down to almost 3.0kg exactly, a milled aluminium sprocket also helps - What is your new one called?
      We don’t use the beadlock still but now use starcross 5 or battlecross tire.

    See with the battery 🔋 do u need to change the controller or display

    • @stingyrogerr
      @stingyrogerr  Před 4 měsíci +1

      With the KO controller you retain the same display as stock! I just removed mine to make the bars cleaner.
      And with a 60v battery you can just keep your standard controller but you wont gain any additional power or speed without upgrading to another controller too!

  • @theosaurus6972
    @theosaurus6972 Před 4 měsíci +1

    Will the stock controller run on any upgraded 60v battery? I am asking coz it seems the battery connector has 4 additional pins and a set of wires, probably some bms comms to the controller. So curious to know if the controller works without special BMS?

    • @stingyrogerr
      @stingyrogerr  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Yes the controller will still work on any 60v battery, you won’t get any additional power though! The additional pins are for bms connection for the speedometer which relays your battery % and voltage. When you upgrade your battery you will loose this function until you get another aftermarket controller and new display !

    • @theosaurus6972
      @theosaurus6972 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@stingyrogerr this is good to know! So basically everything will work except that the screen will not display SoC which is ok, can always have ant bms or hook up a voltmeter. If course I understand that controller won't have more power because amp limits are the same. I guess around 90a battery amps in sport.

    • @stingyrogerr
      @stingyrogerr  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @theosaurus6972 yes correct! Make sure you choose a talaria specific battery as the connection is massively different from the surrons

    • @theosaurus6972
      @theosaurus6972 Před 4 měsíci +1

      What is your impression on 16 wheel with Mitas on stock power? Do you feel some power loss comparing to stock 19? Also do you feel the gearing needs to be lowered down perhaps? Although the gear gets naturally lower due to smaller wheel diameter

    • @stingyrogerr
      @stingyrogerr  Před 4 měsíci +2

      @theosaurus6972 correct but as I said in the video the actual diameter change is only very marginal due to the larger sidewall of the 16” mx tire, perhaps the equivalent gearing change of one / two tooth on the sprocket is what i would say going to a 16” with mx tire from the stock setup.
      In terms of mitas, yes its super light, you will feel a slight loss in speed but i would reccomend going for a 50t sprocket with this combination to still have the same sort of peppiness as it did with the standard 19” wheel.

    I cant find the tires you talked about. i have an mx53 and my battery dies fast and its slow

    • @stingyrogerr
      @stingyrogerr  Před 3 měsíci

      The chinese tires are from ali express and the mitas are really common dirtbike tires, the mx53 is similar to the mx33 in the fact it is too heavy and wide.

    Where did you find the number for the wheel weights? I always thought an smpro 16" would be lighter than a milk racing.Which spoke size. I know milk sells 2 different sizes. I want the lightest wheel since I am on stock power. Any idea who ships batteries within the eu?

    • @stingyrogerr
      @stingyrogerr  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I have weighed them, I have an sm pro wheel set, milk wheel set, my friend owns WGT wheels so I get to be hands on with those and weighed those, and another friend runs warp 9 and being a nerd we’ve weighed them all tireless - sm pro are by far the heaviest, their spokes are thickest, hubs and rims are also thicker slightly. I was really surprised how hefty they were and don’t use them for this reason. Warp 9 are a bit less but only by a small margin, the milk and WGT basically weighed the exact same within 50g of one another and my MILK over 1 year and 2000 miles has never let me down, runs straight af bearings are still the originals and no corrosion. I didnt buy the wheels for looks so all my wheels are just the cheapest option for comparison 👍🏻 hope this helps.
      For batteries if UK go electron, if not ask JSH Batteries as his surron battery we have is very good. Thanks for watching again Marrzie.

    Can you go into more detail about preferring 60v on Talarias?

    • @stingyrogerr
      @stingyrogerr  Před 4 měsíci +1

      What do you need to know?
      It suits talaria gearbox, power delivery is nicer, it fits in stock battery compartment giving 63ah of range rather than 42ah if you went for a 72v at same height.
      More range - more compact - 13.5kw
      Feels like a stock bike with WAY MORE power. 72v on talaria is less smooth and more jerky also the same performance if you have stock motor

    • @slayerficated
      @slayerficated Před 4 měsíci

      I appreciate the response, I didn't know you could get so much more capacity out of the same size pack with 60v. Have you tested on the MX4? I heard the motor is much smoother on it.@@stingyrogerr

    • @stingyrogerr
      @stingyrogerr  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @slayerficated my pleasure man! And yes i have tested the mx4 - the motor is not smoother - it is louder and whinier it sounds broken! Especially with a 72v battery connected it sounds terrible.
      On paper it’s more capable and has removable encoder but if you watch my video on my channel with the ferarri in the thumbnail ( czcams.com/video/-huD7FDuSog/video.html ) then in the multiple drag races with the same input power the mx4 motor is weaker and makes less torque! Weird but there you go! Every mx4 i have tested makes considerably more noise than the mx3 motor and feels notchy through the throttle.
      Hope this helps man!

    • @stingyrogerr
      @stingyrogerr  Před 10 dny

      @frankyknuckles666 the lightweight chinese tire 16” is lighter than mitas by a touch. We used to run stock power and a 16” rear. The benefits it gives over the stock setup outweigh the small straight line speed loss!
      The lightest wheelsets I ever had experience with are the V1 WGT wheels before he changed to a V2 style which have sm pro hubs. The v1 and chinese tire would only be a few grams more than a stock wheel if you use rimtape and set it up tubeless !
