  • Cheap remote Honda XR650L Air/Mixture screw mod!
Using old fuel line and an Allen bolt, assembly time 10 minutes. Not fancy but works great for fast setting of the air/mixture screw.

The one you see on the video still works perfectly on my XR650L.

I forgot to add initially that my 97 650xl has a 13:1 piston along with a hot cam stage (?, purchased from a local private person) and it hauls butt, and is lean on the plug with hard to start normally, so I know it’s lean. So IF IT WOULD STOP SNOWING HERE IN MONTANA, I’d get it jetted properly so I can enjoy it more. Lolol

More horsepower equals more heat produced by the engine, all the more reason to have an oil cooler. I wish the Sutton oil cooler was the size of the DR650oil cooler and positioned in a different location. But I am glad that it is on the bike especially with summer approaching.

You are welcome! I just made another one for the new XR650L I picked up.
I just ground down the tab, hooked a hose to it and was able to adjust the carburetor air mixture screw...easy peasy! and free!

I'm no pro that's for sure and my bike is not stock either. When I go from 1400 ft. to 8000 ft. it is important to be able to readjust the air mixture so the bike runs properly. when I changed the exhaust and opened up the airbox that threw all the factory settings out the window. The biggest problem I had was not knowing that the previous owner had drilled the slide, and installed a carby kit. I would never recommend drilling the slide because you can't put it back once you drill it and at $90 bucks for a new slide it is an expensive lesson. Thanks for the comment.

Good show. I use the nail polish for slippage marks on bolts, one glance and you know if the hardware spun. My xr650 sat for too long and I'm thinking the ethanol gummed up the works. I'm gonna do your mod when I re-install. Thanks.

Thank you for the comment, I do the same with nail polish from the dollar store, for marking critical bolts for movement. even as a "medium" lock tight when I'm out of the real stuff. My poor XR650 is the same. I need to get it out and ride it this week. I have too many projects.

What do you mean you hade no luck with the Dyno Jet? You didn't like the performance, or you could not find the kit?

    • @verbalwidget7267
      @verbalwidget7267  Před 2 lety

Hey Zip, I have the kit but my bike ran better without it? Shimming the needle and larger jets from the manufacture gave me better results, but all bikes are different. A lot of people have good results with Dyno Jet some do not. I have the air box cut and full FMF exhaust.

I'm 2years late, but don't mess with that screw, If your bike is
Stock, the tab there FOR A REASON this a vacuum carburetor if U start messing with the SCREW on trail U could

Temperature changes alone require mixture adjustment. Not to mention altitude, humidity, engine/exhaust changes, jetting changes. The screw is there for a reason. Unless you live in a climate controlled bubble with a 100% stock bike.

@@damonjones9270 sorry but I live in SIERRA NEVADA FOOT HILLS
at 2800feet up to around 7500ft
the problem with that in first place was that the carb on that
bike was modified before he got
the bike, and had bigger jets then
were recommended in the first place, then the tab was cut off the AIR ADJUSTMENT SCREW and wasn't adjusted right in the
first place, to adjust that bike
for all the conditions your talking
about is the reason U leave the
Dave's Mod alone because if you
would read shop manual before U decide your are some kind shop teac you will find out that
you can't just reach down and adjust the screw on the fly and get it right, so while your screw'in with your screw I'll be
