paulie.. if you understood the innovative jumps he took, or how much the guitar industry has him to thank, for the simplest of things.. like potting pickups.. the fact tablature was written specifically to explain his playing.. you will understand why there will never be another eddie van halen.
I agree. There has never been a guitarist who followed him who contributed as much to music as he did. There have been some great ones, sure, but no one has ever matched his level of talent.
I was at the first VH concert at McNichols Arena in Denver. Opening for Black Sabbath was a joke. EVH and the boys blew them off the stage. I will never forget...
Saw this big out door event in Los Angeles 1988 Monsters of rock. One of the BEST outdoor gigs i ever been too. Kingdom come Dokken Scorpions Metallica Van halen
Yes, someone threw a camera, it hit Klaus, he bitched aboard t it for a minute, they kept playing, they might have done a shorter set, I honestly can't recall if it was a full set or not
I grew up on old VH, ya know 1980 era in 7th grade, but I loved the Hagar years as well. They wasted so much time that could have been making at least 5 more albums and some good tours.
I missed this tour, but have seen VH 12 times in my life.. last time was 2015. I dont care who sings, I wouldn't presume to be able to dictate who sings in the band. Edwards Eruption (VH first album) and seeing them in 1979, is why I love to play guitar.
I saw the Monsters of Rock tour on June 30, 1988 in Spokane at Joe Ali Stadium Y&T, Kingdom Come, Metallica, Dokken, Scorpions and Van Halen. It was 95 degrees, 120 on the ground. Half way through the show, the med tent had already treated 400 people, mostly from heat exhaustion and about 30 had been transported to the hospital. I was at about stage height in the stands and that was bad enough. Got there at 6am and when the gates opened at 10 am it was already hot, but I got an end seat in the stands right next to Van Halen's fireworks, it was loud. Great show, every break went to the restroom and soaked myself with water including my hat and got a fresh pop and it wasn't too bad that way. I was smart and wore all white, sleeveless shirt and shorts and hat. I am a desert girl so I knew how to keep cool. The first band played at 1pm and it ended after 11 pm. It was 125 mile drive but worth it. Of course back then there weren't many concerts in Eastern Washington so Seattle and Portland were it, and even further.
I was there too!! My first major rock concert ever, and it was amazing!! I actually got fired from my job because I went to this concert, even though I told my boss I was going to go to it, three weeks before, and she approved it, lol!! It was well worth it though, lol!!
My first concert was at the Pontiac Silverdome to see this show. It was beyond LOUD. Couldn't really hear much of anything for about a week after that concert. All the bands put on a great show...
I've seen more rock bands live than I can list here, and as far as musical talent goes, this van halen lineup has got the most of any I've ever seen hands down. Everybody knows how good Eddie was, but Alex is a monster on drums, and Sammy is a great guitarist also. Not to mention Michael Anthony who is also an awesome bass player and vocalist. I consider myself very lucky to have seen this band live at their peak in 1996. They were unbelievable. I miss Eddie so bad. RIP EVH and godspeed to the immortal Van Halen.
Foxboro stadium 88! My 2 friends and I were against the wall in the front row the entire show. It was hooter than hell and they sprayed us with hoses all day. Especially if someone decided to light up! Great times and phenomenal tour!

They seem to be really getting along well, before the drugs hijacked Eddie's brain. Sad, but I'm glad he's sober and I hope he's doing well. Always my favorite guitarist. They all seem like they're really good people.
Sammy's legacy oughta be playing out right here right now!!!! He knows more about rock n roll show biz or at least as much as everybody else cmon man show these punks some real music..
I saw this concert at RFK stadium, (DC). Who would’ve known that I would’ve been married 14 months later. 😁 Best concert I’ve ever seen. Waited in line, (not online), overnight for tickets. There was a stadium wide food fight right before VH went on. You could watch the wave of food, trash, drinks, etc. VH was actually waiting to go on. Great day!!!
Except they made more money with Sammy than DLR, and now Sammy, at 71, is worth millions and is still playing, recording, writing, touring and VH and DLR are irrelevant.
Roxanne Daniel .......The only reason Halen made more with Sammy, is because multi-media. If you reversed this scenario.......Roth years would have killed the Sammy years! The Roth years were epic! Sammy years were good.

I lived in Yorktown Virginia at the time and went to that concert it was freaking amazing
I press mute, and when their mouths move I just say.... "Michael Anthony" over and over until I fall asleep.....
Thought I was the only one....
One of the saddest things to me anyway, is how much time VH has wasted on immature and petty things.
Like what ?
They wasted The band loosing Dave.
Dollars and business killed the rest.
