Thank you Andy! We share the love of music...Thanks for turning me on to Genesis "Supper's Ready"...I was more Yes and King Crimson than Genesis but hearing you say you play this track once a month got me motivated...Marvelous! I had never heard Mogwai's music before and it's exhilarating! I'm listening to "Young Team"...Something tells me I can just hit play and let this album ride...

I can't get over Portishead. I've got all their releases and no matter how many times I listen, I find them so surprisingly unique and meticulously put together. Like a classic sci-fi movie that only gets better with repeat viewings, so as some music critics like to say, it's 'cinematic.'

Uh! Common Sense would tell you if someone listens to something the most it would only be because it's their favorite but they just can't admit to it because there's others that they like too but they just don't want to listen to those other ones as much simply because they're not their favorites.
So quit trying to brainwash yourself into believing something that's not true.😂

    Cat Stevens Tea and Teaser

Excellent video Andy I think I might do a version myself! I absolutely love most of your choices. I couldn’t agree more on the Steven Wilson remixes I have his version of the first 6 or 7 JT albums, and I do much prefer them to my original copies - Aqualung might be the album that benefits most from a remix tbh. Talk Talk are massively underrated I listen to them all the time particularly Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock. I’ve long had most of their albums on vinyl, but recently picked up their ‘best of’ which is getting spun a lot atm! I need to get more Mogwai in my collection I only have the ‘Rave Tapes’ boxset which I really like. Dummy - what an album great choice! New subscriber here cheers!

Hi Andy , as mentioned, it’s so interesting what we end up listening to when we have large collections, favourites may not be the most played etc . And surely that 14-18 imprinting period seems to crop up with so many music fans. Somehow our DNA absorbs what we are listening to during those years , perhaps in some ways it’s never quite the same again .

I really like the idea of this list - this should be done more often by other critics: because the proof is in the pudding when it comes to this isn't it! Which music do you actually like to hear on a regular basis? What albums have been long-term staples in your life? It's all very well espousing 'worthy' or 'discerning' taste, but - what use is a 'great' album if you never want to put it on? Sometimes this gets lost in snobbery and posturing.

Thanks for watching, John. And taking the trouble to comment. I think Genesis's best three are Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot and Selling England. Foxtrot is my perennial favourite just because I think Supper's Ready is so awesome, but on any one day I can prefer any one of them. I saw them the first time in Feb 73 when they wrer touring Foxtrot (a few days before they recorded the Live album) and then again when theu toured Selling England. We have an old barrel water butt on the front drive which we call Harold! My wife banned me from stencilling HAROLD on it. She thought the neighbours would think we were nuts!

The Talk Talk and Be Bop were what did it for me, they are both pretty well universally liked by either prog heads or just people with great taste, but still a little obscure. I like most of the Gabriel era Genesis and was a bit obsessed with those albums Trespass to The Lamb a couple of years ago.
Aqualung is terrific, but I love Living in the Past too, with Andersons' folksy acoustic numbers.
I've never investigated Porcupine Tree, I know they're quite popular in the VC.
I think I appreciate Radiohead more than actually enjoy listening to them.

Hey, thanks for watching. My equipment? I've replaced most of it over the last 2-3 years and currently have mostly Cambridge Audio, not entirely by design but responding to good value offers! I've got a CXA80 amp with CXC cd transport, which uses the amp's DAC via a digital co-ax cable, bought after my old Cyrus cd player died a few months back. I have a lot of digital files on a server and a Cambridge Audio network streamer the Azur N851, another sale offer a 2-3 years back. That's paired with the amp via a pair of balanced xlr cables. My turntable is quite unusual. It's also a Cambridge Audio, the Alva TT (v1). I was looking to upgrade my old Rega P3 and this offer popped into my inbox direct from CA for a factory refurbished model at less than half the price of a new V2. It's a direct drive with MC cartridge, and built in phono stage based on CA's Duo model. What makes it different is it can output bluetooth AptX HD, which means if you have a good enough bluetooth speaker it will stream the vinyl output at 24bit. It's really handy for playing vinyl records when I'm in a different room, e.g. the kitchen, which is most of the time. I have a Dali Katch G2 bluetooth speaker which is AptX HD compatible. Finally the main speakers are Bower & Wilkins 702 S2 floorstanders. Another offer that popped into my inbox when I was looking to upgrade my old bookshelf speakers. These were ex-demo from one of the big hifi chains. They were asking £4k which was way outside my range. I think they made a mistake on the price judging by the nightmare I had getting them to fulfill the order!

Hey, thanks for watching. Great list you have there. Airbag is a band I've been getting in to last couple of years. Another modern prog band worth checking out is Riverside. They hail from Warsaw and their fabulous debut is 20-odd years old already. Slightly reminiscent of Porcupine Tree. I'm a philistine with Yes, I prefer Fragile and the Yes Album to CTTE. I know it's wrong! 😄Also a philistine with Steely Dan. There's just something about Donald Fagen's vocals I don't like. Like sprouts I keep trying but somehow I don't get it 🤣Cheers

Keep your paws off the vinyl. Your record handling should be a felony. Stick to streaming.

Thanks for watching, Sheila. Class albums indeed! I love the Jam and All Mod Cons appeared in one of my vids a few months ago. I like the Who but just don't love them. Cheers

You’re handling your record wrong especially putting your hands on your albums

Thanks for watching Jim. I'll take your comment as constructive feedback which is good, i've had some rude ones and your's isn't. I do know how to handle records, I've been doing it for years. But getting an old record out of an old bag quickly on camera sometimes is hard. I do try and not put my hands on the playing surface but sometimes fail. If I get a finger mark on I clean the vinyl and I have a bloody good cleaning machine. It's a calculated risk I take. Thanks for your concern

If you don't like why bother posting a rude comment? Is it just show everyone you are a slimy knob?
