Starfield - MAY UPDATE - Customize the Starborn Guardian

  • In the May Issue of "Extreme Makeover: Guardian Edition" we take this fixer upper and ... well ... fix 'er up. You know, by stuffing it full of new furniture and knick-knacks we've stolen from around the Settled Systems.
    Is Starborn Guardian suitable for a slightly more involved New Game+ iteration? Can we find a good non-Constellation crew?
    With no available cargo expansions how do make all this work without camping out at the Lodge dependent on the magical Infinite Storage box?
    In the MAY UPDATE we can decorate any of our ships with many of the same items as an Outpost.
    Thanks to ‪@rescueranger778‬ for the question!

    Pro tip…if your ship has a ton of items/resources you want to take from ship to The Lodge…load up your character on the ship. Then “Land” at the lodge from space or a planet other than Jamison. It’s like a non-weight restricted fast travel.

    Nice layout. Looks good. I do hope with the dlc coming they add some more unique furniture that would fit the style of the ship like flooting bed or chairs. Stuff that looks more advance and slick. Like the crafting tables, we have just feel a little out of place. A different variation of them would be nice.

      To be clear, there are very good reasons I am not a decorator in real-life. There are likely some pieces that can be staged better than what I did. I lean "practical" with only a dash of aesthetic. I was also mostly trying to sort out if I could use the ship in NG+ runs so once I put something in place, I moved on. :)

    I like the beret! The distance between The Lodge and the spaceport was always a hindrance to inventory management. Now you can change the distance to access cargo in settings it should make it easier to balance stocks between what you have on ship and your infinite Lodge storage.

      I almost wrote an entire thesis as a reply, but I'll just leave it with "Yes, me too at times. It can be confusing."
      I will note in the beta there is a Gameplay Option called "Cargo Access at a Distance"
      Options are:
      ANYWHERE - Self explanatory, I guess.
      LIMITED LOCATIONS - Access your ship's cargo at outposts or settlements.
      NORMAL - Only while near ships.
      INSIDE SHIP - Only while inside the ship.
      I'd prefer that "LIMITED LOCATIONS" should be "NORMAL" so I might turn that on going forward. :)

    Does the Beta update transfer over to the official one when it releases? Or is it another game

    • @kineer
      @kineer  Před měsícem +1

      Currently (on Steam/PC) you have to open Properties and select the beta (1.11.33).
      Then it downloads and replaces your current installation. My steam Library now shows "Starfield [beta]".
      If you decide to go back to the regular game, you select Properties and and choose "None" in the Betas tab. It then downloads again and goes back to version 1.10.31 which just shows as "Starfield".
      Note, I do NOT assume any saved games from the Beta will work in the previous (current) production version of the game. I back up all my saves BEFORE going to a beta and then copy them back into my Saves directory when I switch back.
      I've done this successfully, but not tried to load any Beta saves with the normal game. Would rather not risk it.
      Once it's all released as the current version, all the beta designation should be gone and it will just overwrite your current version with their final update release version.

      @@kineer Interesting , What are "Highlander" options. Thank You

    • @kineer
      @kineer  Před měsícem +1

      The short description is "Investment opportunities for the immortal or those with advanced knowledge."
      Time travelers (think Back to the Future / sports almanac) have it easier perhaps. Vampires in certain fiction have similar strategies. In this case, I was referring to Connor MacLeod in the Highlander movie.
      I did assume when you mentioned Lin and constellation you were looking at ways to set up 'future you' as you pass through the Unity. How do we help them and then make it more comfortable for us. Perhaps you were just looking for a way to close out your accounts before blipping out of existence? :)
      In the Highlander movie, he was immortal and could play very long term investments. Not a perfect fit for Starborn, but there are some striking parallels. As Starborn we have advanced knowledge of fairly significant events yet we can only capitalize on minor points. At a minimum, I would expect that dealing in rare and valuable antiquities would be an option.
      If we have functioning stock markets (and it is implied), we could also short HopeTech or Infinity LTD and then go through the Freestar Collective and Ryujin quest lines. At the moment we effectively tank their value, we take massive profits.
      I am assuming Freestar Collective investment regulation is ... let's say "relaxed", and my role in ventilating Ron Hope is ignored when I cash out. The UC might have rules against such things, but given their nature that probably just means paying off the right bureaucrat. In any case, we should be able to make millions quickly instead of the normal quest rewards.
      In a comical approach, perhaps we take a long position in the manufacturer of the best "red" (or crimson) space suit material in the Settled Systems? After we return Kyrx's Legacy to Delgado and the Fleet enjoys a revival, our investment in bright space suit material really pays off. :)
      So many unknowns, but all still an amusing thought exercise.

    I just hate the lose everything after unity. We should at least have blueprints for outposts like fallout 76 as it doesn’t make sense we have knowledge of past universes, keep powers but can’t remember outposts. I don’t mind the grind for materials, but just give me the blueprints I’ve had previously to use on other planets.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  Před měsícem

      You lose everything but "yourself" in the Unity. Some would argue you lose a piece of yourself too, but that's a philosophical debate. ;)
      In any case, all the ships, outposts, money are left behind. I have discovered (following the process I've detailed in my NG+ 200K Start playlist) that I can quickly get up to speed as I level my Star powers. Quite the trade-off, but I've had fun with it. I still keep non-NG+ character around that I play quite a bit though.

    More improtantly. . . any idea if we can use (many) mods, in this beta build?

    • @kineer
      @kineer  Před měsícem +2

      Maybe I should have introduced the ship a bit, but it's the one the Starborn fly. You get one when you go through the Unity after playing through the main story (IF you decide to do that). I have a save where I never went through Unity. I have another that I'm sharing on this channel where I'm in NG+ (fifth iteration). It's fun. You get a "Starborn Guardian" in each NG+ game, ranked up through number 6 (VI). Until now I just benched this ship as soon as I could "steal up" to something that could be modified in the ship builder.
      I have only been using StarUI mods so far and StarUI HUD is broken in the beta. However, Bethesday did say they had sent out kits to existing mod creators already so the is moving ahead.
      For now I think they are moving from what was a 'holding pattern' to re-working their existing mods to fit what will eventually be official support.
      Will be great when it happens. My expectations are tempered and I try to not attach dates. :)
