  • Moon-side SHIP HUNTING IS BACK. I was definitely disappointed to see the last patch break the old technique for ship hunting on moons.
    How's a poor Starborn supposed to get a shiny new space-boat in a big dark galaxy? Work for it?! That's not how we roll as universe-skipping super-beings.
    In this video I show you an approach that allowed me to fill up my 10 ship spots quickly just landing on moons and stealing ships from Ecliptic, Spacers, Crimson Fleet, and [cough, cough, yes] a nice group of civilians. Can't say I'm proud of that, but the Vista III is a very nice ship.
    "What if I want it more then they do?" - Rocket Raccoon
    By the end, I had another Ecliptic Claymore III, Spacer Hyena III, Crimson Fleet Wight III, Vista III, and several smaller ships (Ecliptic Falcattas).
    0:00 Start
    0:28 A ship magically appears at an LZ as I approach (it's a Dagger with a vendor)
    5:29 LZ that did NOT have a landing site nearby
    8:45 LZ that does have a Ship Landing Site nearby (I ultimately found three with my approach)
    9:29 A wild Hyena appears!
    13:20 Random security guard
    16:17 Sonic booms and ship landings (Archimedes IV-A) - The payoff.
    After grabbing the final Ecliptic Claymore III and parking at my outpost, I returned to find the 6-7 Ecliptic still patrolling the LZ. While I approached another Spacer Hyena III landed, a group of Spacers got out and a battle ensued. That video is posted in a CZcams short.

    Great tip: @neognosis2012 pointed out that Copernicus IV has the same time dilation as Venus (100:1) and does NOT require a point in Habitation in order to put down a base and bed. Tested, confirmed, great scenic location. I went ahead and put a hab, airlock and landing pad there for future use.

    Anyone else disappointed in guardian ships? No beds, no workbenches, no way to upgrade.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  Před 3 měsíci +4

      I try to move on from the Guardian as quickly as possible in each NG+ round. The only reason I brought it out for this video is just to make sure I don't do something that relies on already having a better ship. In this case, it's 'sleeping on Venus.' Out of habit, I'd do that in my ship if I hadn't forced myself to take the Guardian. Another subscriber mentioned Copernicus IV has the same time dilation as Venus to the problem is solved too.
      If all you have is the Guardian, take it to find something better. Then leave it in the garage for the rest of the run. ;)

    Interesting video about the ships. I am still finding empty ship landing sites and now, in just the last hour, I have found two empty landing sites and as I was approaching the empty site and about 90m away a ship sonic boom sounded and the ship almost landed on top of me. But low & behold the ship was inaccessible after it discharged 3 or 4 enemy. One was a Va’run Dirge III and one was an Ecliptic class C forgot the exact type. Trying your technique to improve my chances. If it works you can meet me at the Viewport in New Atlantis and I’ll buy you a drink.

      They (bugs) create a strange base level sense of uncertainty. "Is that supposed to do that or is it just doing that because it's a bug? Should I be concerned? Will it affect something else? I'm not paranoid. No, no definitely not me."

    works 100%. Holy moly! I found several empty landing sites since patch but no ships. Thanks for posting.
    here's the tl/dw. Verfied several times this morning.
    Look for empty ship landing sites. They will likely be in open areas not near POIs.
    There's no flag or pointer, just look for small empty plateaus where ships land.
    Sometimes when you get to within 270 meters of it, a ship will instantly be in view or sometimes it will just be empty ship landing site with flag/marker now.
    Remember where you are, drop outpost or remember your landing site, etc.
    When you see an empty site, go to Venus sleep for 24 hours there. (2400 hours UT)
    When you come back, make a quick save in orbit or at least 300meters away from the empty landing site.
    Walk towards site again, at exactly 270 meters out, you hear the sonic boom and see incoming ship land at that site like normal!!
    If you don't like the ship that comes in, just revert to your save from before you walked in and walk in again for random roll on new ship.

    A positive video on Starfield, and with a player who, besides me, actually uses the Guardian. Very cool. There are not many of us :) Great video. To backtrack for a bit - the empty ship bug. If you are near about 20 ships that do not take off (especially the starborn ships), you will develop a bug. That bug will give you empty ships that you dock on, or encounter on land. Imagine my horror as I bring my dagger that administers CPR (corrosion, poison and radiation) to the adorable Va'ruun zealots as I dock on their ships in the Serpentis system - AND THE SHIP IS EMPTY !! I BEGGED Bethesda support to do something about this. March 6 beta comes along. I see the zealots !! I administer CPR !! I am so happy. BUUUUT. I am not seeing ships landing anywhere. No mention of empty ship bug after beta is over. Why would Bethesda not mention this bug that they fixed, they mentioned hundreds of others they fixed. Oh boy, that must mean they are still working on it. Aahhh, that's why hardly any ships landing. I have managed to see some walking on moons with craters at night, walking by small POI's. But I will try your system, great idea. Two things to tell you - try pointing your scanner at the approaching ship, it will identify the ship for you. Also, try sleeping only 6 hours on Venus (I hope you put an outpost there). This resets the ship vendors credits, so it should be enough time to reset the POI's. Hopefully that will save you some time. Oh and one last thing - if you do not want to keep the ship you are about to board, do a hard save right before getting on the ship that has landed, in case it takes off. Usually reloading that save, the ship will stay.

      I'm still parsing all this, but I think you're right about it taking less than a full 24 hours to get the job done. I didn't test shorter periods mostly so I could get the video done quicker. I always end up with far more footage than I can fit in without making them too long. Thanks for watching!

      Testing now. Tried your suggestion, no luck. But found a processing plant with repeated ship encounters on Archimedes 1a. My landing site is about 500 meters away. The 6 hour rest on Venus does reset the ship visits. Have had guardian, falcatta and raccoon so far. So we can have our fill of ship encounters doing this, pretty cool.@@kineer

      I follow this strategy but I only sleep 10 hours on Venus. I built an outpost on Burran in the Cheyenne system where there are (3) Landing Sites near enough to my outpost. It’s true I don’t hear the sonic boom or see the ship landing any longer but when I get near the site the ship will be landed.

    7:45 Copernicus IV has the same 100:1 time dilation and has the benefit of no need for Habitation rank investment if you want to put a bed down. Ship landing sites seem to have a 600-800 hr or so respawn cooldown, so only 8 hrs is needed. This method works for me too to get ships landing on a planet since the last update. I put down an outpost beacon close to were i first found a landing area with a ship on it and i go back to the sam landing area when i want another ship. You don't have to make a save to reload in orbit before you land to change the ship that spawns. I make a save when I'm close to the landing spot, just before the distance i know I'm going to hear the sonic boom. I reload the save from there if it's not a ship I want and I get a different ship every time. Have so far got about 10 different ships after resting on venues then returning to the same landing spot.

      I did more testing (well over 20 cycles with a Starborn and non-Starborn characters). This strategy with the optimizations suggested by you and others can be incredibly efficient.
      When (not if) you find one or more Ship Landing Sites, set up your sleep point and a choose a not-so-nearby save point, it's a ship printing machine. :)
      In the end it solves the exact issue I hoped to solve for the general NG+ player:
      "How do you take the [sub-optimal] Starborn Guardian and move easily into a better platform to finish the rest of an NG+ cycle without having to invest heavily in ship combat/defense skills?"
      Hint (for anyone following our thread): I can't prove causation, but I found a moon that fit the profile much closer to the center of the map and picked up a Va'Ruun Prophesy III on my sixth attempt.

  • @joshhall5172
    @joshhall5172 Před 3 měsíci +1

    I don't think the ship popping in is deliberate, I still get actual landings from time to time. Last week I noticed the same thing as you with large gaps in the pois around you having a higher chance of ship landings but what I also noticed is the ship actually spawning was super distance related. Like within a couple hundred meters and it's consistent between reloads. So say you hit a ridge then hear the boom, on reload it will always be at that same ridge the ship either lands or pops in.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I can't imagine they wanted to completely dry things up, but then again the previous situation where you just stepped out of your ship on a barren planet and suddenly you had company was probably too much. I'm confident they will 'dial this in' over time and find the right balance and eliminate these visual issues (invisible ships at a distance).

      • Undock, then re-dock with your current home ship.

    Well, I don’t want to make the first crossover yet, I have not had a landed ship open in 6-7 months. Since the patch, no ships land. I sometimes see a ship landing site that appears empty but then a ship takes off later. If I walk into the landing area, the scanner names a ship and type but none are there, even if I return. Basically, I’m about fed up with Starfield but will keep playing a bit longer

      I had one save (past level 100) that had bugs I couldn't shake. Jumping through the Unity resolved them all. As BGS has patched bugs, they don't occur again (but sometimes a new one pops up). My other character (also past 100) is happily sitting in his pre-NG+ game. It's safe to say I had learned to avoid triggering certain bugs. Like anyone else, I read what I can find and a lot of that turns out to be other players speculating on what's broken (true or not) and how to avoid it. Best of luck!

    Have to give this a try tonight. Presently on NG12 and getting ready to go NG13. Absolutely terrible space combat for me in the Guardian. I think I was 1 out of 10 for successful boarding. Always the first thing I would do is hit a high level planet to steal ships for sale and to use. Once this was removed seriously considered putting the game down over this. Will give this a shot tonight.

    • @jameskelly4494
      @jameskelly4494 Před 3 měsíci

      Just wanted to add that I tried this last night on Hawking 1A. Out of three landing zones it did work on one of them. After the first landing I double checked and rescanned the area for the second area, just kept reloading the save, and no landing zone was in sight. It was located in between POI"s and a short distance from where I landed. I reloaded the save 10 times and only once had a ship that was already landed and it was a Sunsail. All of the Class C ships were Claymore 3's. Other landings were Class A and B. So it will work, but what still infuriates me on this is the silence coming out of Bethesda. Was this the intent or an unforseen consequence of moving POI's closer. Also are they bringing ship landings back. Who knows. Some people commenting have said this was a bug fix, that too many ships were landing and this fixed the problem. Completely disagree. This was a feature in the game from Day 1. Also I have had many landings where no ships spawned at all. Out of the landings most of the ships for me are Class A or B, not worth the time or effort to hijack. I am on NG12 and the only Class C ships that have landed for me are Vista 3 (both Freestar and UC, Claymore 3, Wight 3 and Hyena version and on Rare occasions a Prophecy 3. I am probably going to try NG13 and see how it goes, but if no change to the landing zones are coming than I will probably put it down until the DLC. Running around for hours on Neon or even the Keys to sell weapons and get enough credits to purchase and equip a decent Class C ship to replace the crappy Guardian does not sound like fun. Security NPC's on a ship are another glitch that started after another patch. The biggest issue for me was having anywhere from 1 to 15 on pirated ships. Any hijacked of a UC or Freestar ship in space results a huge bounty as long as security is on your ship. The only way for me to get rid of them was too land on a planet with a Civilian Outpost that had a Bounty Clearance terminal. Shoot all present and pay the bounty. Tried it in space when I had multiple security on board and as soon as the first one was shot ships would appear around me and start blasting away.

      >...the only Class C ships that have landed for me are Vista 3 (both Freestar and UC, Claymore 3, Wight 3 and Hyena version and on Rare occasions a Prophecy 3
      This is consistent with what I find. These are all solid ships for Starborn NG+ purposes and consistent with what I've seen BGS say in bug reports about "enemy ship landings." Also consistent with the idea that enemy ships are most likely to land on remote moons for fuel (vs. UC/Freestar). I still see UC/Freestar ships land, but at much lower rates and they aren't take-over targets in the same way for me.
      If you want a Galbank transport or something specific from the Freestar/UC lines you will likely have to hunt them in space. That said, it will be easier if you start with a capable class C compared to bouncing around in a Starborn Guardian.
      That was the original purpose of the video in my series (NG+ Starborn moving through NG+). I'm not farming ships to make money or even to create a collection. I just needed to get out of the Guardian and into something useful.

      I found that sonic boom worked 80% of the time in the beta. That is, if I landed on a new moon, saved and then exited my ship I could often get the pre-March boom. If I kept restoring, sometimes there would be no boom. Very rough observation was 2/10 times.
      On other planets I would get out and get no boom at all. In those cases, I would fall back to hunting for ship landing sites. It seems we will end up with a mix of all the approaches.

    I found a Spacer Hyena iii exactly how you described. Don’t know if related to the patch but encountered a major bug after deleting the ship entirely and building a whole new ship with all the best parts in its place (spent like 300k credits). The ship doesn’t load at times, as in, everything else loads except the ship. This requires for a previous save point to be loaded. Worth noting that when the original ship was deleted/rebuilt, it was never assigned as the home ship (registered, yes) and the built took place at several ship yards, ultimately completed at one of my outposts. The ship turned out pretty sick but unfortunately cannot be used so I’m likely gonna have to delete it. Unless someone can shed some light on this and offer insight on fixing this broken ship.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  Před 3 měsíci

      You're not alone mentioning bugs like that. I spent 1M credits on a rebuild once (pre-NG+) and half of it kept disappearing at various sites. It was also too big to fit the landing pad on Gagarin. The Red Mile also creates some strange bugs. Save first, but land there, go inside and change home ships. Then fast travel to the 'ship marker' on your map, a small triangle. That one always puts me in a partial version of the ship I swapped out of.
      Save often, save early, save again, no really, maybe once more. I will note that I also use a separate backup program on Windows that copies my entire save directory every day to a new location on a different drive. I don't know what Xbox players can do.

      I found one and the first time I approached it, a Starborn Guardian landed and four Starborn came out. I then flew to Venus, did the 'long sleep' and and made a Quicksave. Next I flew straight back to the exact landing spot, ran over to the Ship Landing Site (which was now on my scanner) and heard the sonic boom and a new ship landed. I repeated this 4 or 5 times and each time a new ship arrived. All the ships I saw were smaller ships or Starborn ships though. I didn't get a Class C.

      Interesting question (I'd like to see other people's results). The Ship Landing Sites (SLS) seem to operate like a special POI. Various skills (and that module) are supposed to extend the range of a scanner and I've read some people saying it helped them 'see' POIs at greater distance, but the SLSs pop at a very specific and close range. Invisible/absent one moment than visible when you get close. The SLSs seem to require that you walk up on them too. Other POIs can be detected at 1000 meters. I'm thinking of distance "Natural" POIs.

      I tend to watch the Xbox players comments for clarifications, but I have no reason to believe this is not a core mechanic in the game without any deliberate limitations on consoles. It is not based on any mod or console commands (PC only at the moment).
      That said, we are all essentially looking from the outside at a black box of code. We can try something, check the results and draw conclusions.
      In most cases, tips like these are observations of correlation, i.e. when I do "X" it looks like "Y" occurs. We never know if there's an unseen factor, "Z", happening that we've just not observed.

      I think you may be onto something there. Ship farming on low level characters (before engaging Starborn) results in zero Starborn. My level 103 save (pre-NG+) still gets them at ship sites. This is presumably because they are chasing the artifacts still and I'm not going through the Unity on that save.
      I will note that I thoroughly enjoy spawning an Alternate Universe where Constellation (and the Main Quest) aren't present. When I do jump back to a 'normal' saved character and am faced with all the chatter of Constellation crew, it's a bit surprising. In these NG+ Alternates, even when I'm still chasing artifacts, I don't seem to run into many Starborn ships.

      This video was more of a replacement for one part of my NG+ series that broke after the last patch. In that series, I am mostly "just passing through" to get Star Powers upgraded.
      So I start with the Starborn Guardian ship, no cash, and so on. I have this technique down to well under 30 minutes (closer to 15 if I'm lucky) and I walk away with a Claymore III that'll serve my purposes through a short NG+. It coincidentally turned out to have a broader appeal for people that want to farm ships so I did highlight how to repeat it.

      Are you in an NG+ game. When I tested this with my pre-NG+ character he got a lot of Starborn Guardian landings. On my NG+5 save, I see none. Might by system and/or level too.

    I am not playing the game with these bugs.

      I'm curious, is it a specific bug or just the general "these damn bugs" bugs? I can relate on both counts. Unity helped with many. Some I live with.
      This is the official site for dealing with bugs. Another viewer here (in another comment) just heard back from them on one they reported. Very fast turn around.

      It's a bit wonky and can overlap models you're viewing but solves a specific issue for me so I live with it.

      This month I'll probably pass my 1300+ NMS hours with Starfield.
      I have a full farming and production empire built, hit the money cap. Maybe ironic, but the many hours I spent farming ships in NMS was excellent conditioning for what I'm comfortable with in Starfield. I have all the ships I could want in Starfield from my approach here.
      I like NMS and fired it up after the last update. I think the new stations looks pretty cool. It doesn't have the same draw for me at this point, but I might do a fresh game in the future.
