  • In PART 8 of this NG+ game, we take our Starborn Guardian out to the Bohr system to hunt for something with a little more room inside. You can't put a proper ping pong table in the Guardian.
    We leave Bohr I-A with an Ecliptic Claymore III. On the way back we meet up with Betty "Boom" Howser and recruit her as our first crew member on the new ship.
    Also - YES - Boom Howser is very much a King of the Hill joke. I still like her as a companion because she seems very unimpressed with Starborn powers and makes snarky comments.
    0:00 Start
    2:05 Found the Hard Target for Sale
    6:30 Ship hunting on Bohr I-A
    12:16 Capturing the Ecliptic Claymore III
    18:00 Saving Betty
    UPDATE AFTER MARCH 19 PATCH: It looks like BGS is putting POIs close to our landing spots so the sonic boom isn't happening. In limited testing (so far), no ships are landing nearby after you land. I have noticed that by heading out on foot away from all the nearby POIs (open scanner and head in a direction where nothing appears in the distance), I've found ships already landed on the ground.
    I'm still testing percentages and techniques, but I did pick up a Spacer Hyena III and a smaller [useless] ship. In both cases, the ships took off into space as I was fighting the crew. If you see new approaches, please share.

    In case you didn’t already know, there is a briefcase style contraband not very far from where that last turret is located. Whenever taking over enemy ships I always click on one of the major cities like I intend to jump there to see if it is grayed out which indicates there is contraband on board the ship. Nice video for newbies to watch and get good tips.

      I thought I was 'grayed out' when I tried to travel later, but never found the contraband. I removed that part of the video because I was just running around my new ship like an idiot hunting for something I never found. I probably just sold it on the The Den without noticing later. Thanks!

    Look forward to the next one. Never recruited Betty, nor used/worked on a Claymore III, so new territory. One thing I would ask, seeing that you are doing NG+5, is a suggestion or recommendation on what skills to have before going NG+, and what you have at the moment. Noticed your indicated the advantages to maxing Manipulation, which I only have at level 1, for example.

    • @kineer
      @kineer  Před 3 měsíci

      Piloting at 4 is critical so you can fly Class C ships so I do that pre-NG+.
      Manipulation at 1 is enough in many cases so I recommend the Ryujin quest line at some point. You just have to be fast (and likely rely on Quicksave to fix mistakes). Manipulation is a high level skill in that tree so 'skipping to the top without having to sink all the prerequisite points in' is nice.
      I repeated Ryujin in each NG+ game until I hit 4. You can also spend points from leveling up there once you get that first point if you don't want to repeat the quests.
      Before I post my "Claymore Re-fit" video, I'm double-checking requirements. It's a great ship (if you can fly it) because it has high end components. You should be able to move them around even with lower Starship Design skills.
      I did max that out because pre-NG+ I built a ship mostly from scratch (just for fun). It shouldn't be necessary for NG+ if you just steal a Claymore and go.
      I might do a video just on my skill tree at NG+5. That feels like a lot of 'talking and staring at a page'. If I can find a way to do it without inducing sleep, I will. :)

      @@kineer Would probably be faster to indicated what I have not maxed, but I was definitely not aware that repeating the Ryujin quest line would grant an additional rank of Manipulation - currently have 2. Am using the Kepler R, modified the engines and weapons. Was working on leveling Outpost Engineering and Management for additional resources, now wondering if I am better off elsewhere. Spacesuit Design and Weapon Engineering are maxed.

    I did the same as you showed and tried landing straight from Space six times, then just jumping around on the surface five times. I never heard the sonic boom-nothing. Did I pick up a glitch or something?
    But I did find the Starborn Trader - maybe that glitched it?

    • @kineer
      @kineer  Před 3 měsíci

      In different plays, I found I had to jump around to different moons until I found one where I could get the 'boom' upon landing. Sometimes a moon just seemed to never trigger an incoming ship. So I would hunt for another rocky / no atmosphere moon, quicksave in space, then land. There are four systems on that far right edge and I eventually always find one.

      @@kineerHey :)
      I am at Hawking V-a but also nothing - I tried all the other moons in Boar too got nothing there either
      How long exactly do you wait?
      PS. I give in. 5 systems 3 hours and no Boom, so I'll take a brake. Hate TODD right now - cr*ppy ship is useless - no bed, no workshop and couldn't fight anything above lv 40.

    • @kineer

      @@jodele5878 The 'sonic boom' is immediately OR I assume it won't happen. However, in my ten tries on the video the first 2-3 I had a sonic boom but bad ships. The 4th attempt I landed and heard nothing so I restored back into space. I was also changing my landing spot on the moon quite a bit. Maybe (??) there's something in the RNG that cares where you land? I tried the dark sides of the moon too. Then went back to a lit side.
      I remember following a video early on where a guy just hunted in space. I spent hours looking for anything with a "III" designation and had terrible luck. Even when I found them the Starborn Guardian's weapons were so weak that I'd get the shields down and they'd go right back up after locking on. Very frustrating. That's when I switched to the moon landings. All very frustrating and induces serious resentment toward BGS (and/or Todd) :). Feels like a puzzle with no rules (only the devs know).
      I'd widen my search, but stick to high level systems. If there's no boom in 1-2 landings, move on. Hit all the similar moons. If no luck, move to the next system.
      I will also warn you, do NOT grab a smaller ship out of frustration. Some of them don't even have the jump distance to get home again. At that point, you're cursing Todd's family and friends too.

    Haven't come across person asking for magazines to be collected, is it ammo mags or comic version?

    • @kineer
      @kineer  Před 3 měsíci

      Sorry, I probably say that very casually without explaining. :) One is in the Lodge on the counter just as you first walk in. Another is on The Eye (Peak Performance gives you a 5kg increase in carry capacity). I have collected 104 individual magazines on one of my characters. They are all over the game, but be aware some are only accessible while doing specific quests. Some areas are locked out after you complete the quest so you almost have to work from a list to get them all.
