  • I always wanted Harry Callahan's gun, since I was a kid and saw the movie. I saw this at a local gun shop and bought on the spot. I think the nickel finish looks better. Today's young adults have no clue who Harry is, or why he'd just such an antiquated design đŸ«ą. It's an absolutely smooth weapon, with an incredible trigger. I think it's useless for carry, but then again, I'm average height.

    The first "Dirty Harry" movie 44 magnum was a pre 1970 model 29-2 "S" prefix serial number, 6.5" barrel, blued finish with target grips, sights, hammer and trigger carried in a Clark Bucheimer shoulder holster. I just bought a 29-2 made around 1975 with all the above features except it has the N prefix serial number. The first movie came out in 1971.

      No I don't have one yet, I've been trying to a 29-2 for a long time that's in good shape. I like the dash 29-2 are the last kind they used pin barrels and recessed cylinders and I just love them they are a beautiful gun .I have a Ruger super Blackhawk and a Ruger super redhawk both in 44 mag I go Deer hunting with mine. I'm always liked the 44 it's a very versatile round ,you can get very light, controllable, pleasant loads to some right down smokin hot loads, a 44 magnum can take a deer with ease to putting down a charging grizzly. 44 magnum I to much for everyday carry and to much for personal protection against a human attacker, I use my 357 magnum for that.

    I realize a 44 Mag is a very powerful piece, but the longer barrel really helps control the recoil. The gun should not be pulling out of your hands. You really need to tighten up your grip.

      @planefun2962  Pƙed 2 měsĂci

      @@planefun2962 I suppose it's a matter of what you get used to. Mine has six inch barrel, and yes, depending on the load, the recoil can be a little stout. However, the balance seems just fine for me. A few months ago, I looked at one with a six and one half inch barrel, and it seemed just a tad muzzle heavy. Does the extra half inch make a difference in terms of power? I really don't know. For whatever it's worth, this was brand new revolver, and the action also seemed to be really stiff. I think older ones are just made better.

      Hogue grips are great on more modern guns but this deserves the original wood grips it wears from the factory. Keep it as original as possible. You aren't going to put thousands of rounds through a gun like this anyway. Nickel plating takes special care so I wouldn't shoot it too much and never leave oil or solvents on the nickel finish, it will ruin it. Clean it, dry it off, wax the nickel plating and put it away in a clean dry location. If you want a side arm for hiking that is suitable for bear defense find yourself a Smith & Wesson Mountain Gun.

    It grates me that in movies, someone can get winged with a .44 magnum. A gun owner friend of mind allowed me to shoot a few rounds out of his Ruger .44 magnum. Held with both hands, and steady, one shot chopped a six-inch poplar in half. So...winged just don't happen; someone's arm comes off.

    I had the exact same gun back in the 1980s. I used it in long range pistol competitions at 300m. Fantastic weapon. I made my own ammo too. Unfortunately the UK government confiscated all privately owned handguns after the Dunblane school shooting. They just minced them up. Heartbreaking.

      @RogerGaloubet Pƙed rokem

      @@planefun2962 Indeed. Of course the black bullseye is a lot bigger but sits nicely on top of the open sights (always aim at 6 o'clock). The gun isn't hand held per se but the butt is rested on a sandbag. After I fired a shot I could watch the bullet fly down the range through my spotting scope until a white hole appeared in the black centre of the target. I reckon I could get all my shots within a 9 inch diameter circle at 300m. But that's a long time ago now, sadly.

      @@planefun2962 I don't think we want to go the way of the US with guns everywhere. We've always had tight gun control but if you were a bona fide shooting club member owning guns was no problem. Until Dunblane that is (and before that Hungerford). It was hoped by removing legal guns less firearms would find there way into criminal hands (from burglaries for example). It didn't work out that way of course. Street shootings have increased and illegal guns abound in the underworld. And of course many recreational shooters have lost their hobbies and many gun shops have gone to the wall. That's progress eh?

I have a model 19 .357 Magnum that I've had since 1977 that looks a lot like yours being nickel plated, 6" barrel, target hammer & trigger, target sights, and the same type of walnut grips, they are both desired collector's items and investments in this day and age worth 3 to 4 + times what they originally sold for, I'm shooting more semi-automatics nowadays but might just break mine out after watching your video for old times sake.
