The pitting you see is actually just an optical illusion, its likely oil left behind with cotton from patches. The Proof Research barrel is cut rifled and then hand lapped while the PSA likely just button rifled. I've been with Proof for a few years now doing QC for a good majority of the Proof barrels after they been rifled and lapped. We strive for world class craftsmanship in not only finish but also groove and bore tolerances and consistency. Glad you liked our product!
I don't know if I'll ever build a rifle, but being a fan of how mechanical things are constructed and operate, these are fantastic videos. Thank you, sir!
I'm looking foward to the video where these two go head to head on paper with several types of ammo and 5 shot groups! The endoscope? down the barrel is awesome man!
I didn’t watch this before I bought my 18” Arc barrel. I bought a Shaw which I have wanted one since forever. Their track record is phenomenal. It is also button rifled.
badbilly429 That’s what I’m saying! You put accuracy up it will be apples and oranges. He mentions pitting on the PROOF barrel. I would put money that it is most likely oil and some fibers from a cloth.
@@nateskate11 I saw something similar in my Proof 308 SS barrel with my endoscope, and it went away after a couple patches through it. After that, the inside looked like someone polished it to a high shine like a brand new car. I think cut barrells like the Proof, Bartlein, and Kreigers tend to shoot better, especially when hot. Less stress to the steel in the process.
Kota, those Huge Pits are not normal in a Super Match Grade Barrel man! You been robbed I’d send that thing back! I bet you the Palmetto barrel is far more accurate and consistent my friend over time.......
I'd really like Kota to push a clean dry patch down the barrel and re inspect it. That looks like oil that is intentionally left in the barrel when it leaves the factory. I've seen that a hundred times and it looks weird in a bore scope, but it wipes right out.
When I was in whitefish Montana driving along some snowy road a huge sign stood out to me. Proof, and I was like "holy shit". My coworkers had no idea why I was trippen about wanting to stop and go in. Pretty nice facility
Love this series, I just got the parts for my 6.5 build. Db10 complete upper with a 20in fluted stainless barrel. Db lower but unnamed ar parts. Keep up the great work.
I do have a question since You’ve asked. I thought copper was Our enemy, but my question is how much magnification does the bore scope have because I though You passed a hair at the front that looked like a cable. Also the striations that we’ve seen are minuscule if people think that they are going to ruin the accuracy. Keep up the good work my friend, You are an inspiration to Us and a haven, even if for a few minutes, to get Our minds off the crap going on around Us. Thank You!
Awesome info KB32, don't want to steal your thunder !!! Having prob getting an item from PSA to my ffl, which happens to be bass pro ......not like it's an uncommon FFL. Thx KB32, continue to roll..... awesome !
I agree, the Palmetto barrel looks like better quality, and the accuracy was very good with it as well! I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a super match grade barrel that’s been hand lapped have those huge pits! I would send that FKR back or get a refund!
It doesn't have pits, as a guy that has looked down a lot of barrels, that is oil in the barrel that hasn't had a patch run through it. Push a single dry patch down that barrel and show a bore scope video again.
What I have no sense for is the difference in tolerances and steel. While it was flat-out cool to see the differences in horizontal chatter and in-line tooling marks in the lands and groves, once both barrels have a copper patina, doesn't it then come down to how precisely the bullet travels down each barrel? Unlike the AR build you did, both of these barrels seem to be comparably beefy. However, if they're made of different kinds of steel, then the harmonics will probably be different. How comparable are they please?
My PSA Gen 3 gets .5 moa all day with factory Hornady 140 ELD. Gets 1,000' 10" plate if I do my job pretty easy. Just bangs the hell out of the brass though. Can't have everything...I guess
How can people balk at quality?! I've had BA 308 and hit .5 moa and thats even a high end build I did. But for 6.5 CM I'm going proof barrel with JP silent capture spring and a variable mass system. Youre gonna pay a steep amount for quality and reliability. When it comes to those two I'll save no expense. Espeically when it comes to SHTF kind of scenarios.
Awesome video man! Be careful with setting the end of the barrel down on the table when you showed the feed ramps and chamber trying to get it to focus. You can easily damage the crown and it will effect accuracy from what Tiborasaurus says. I know it's hard to remember but I try to never let the end of my barrel touch the floor or hard stuff. He says even micro dents and scratches in the crown can make a difference in precision rifles. The crown is the last part of the barrel the round touches when exiting, and it needs to be completely uniform. Anyway, just wasn't sure if you were aware. Sorry if you do. That endoscope thing is awesome!
Bear Creek Arsenal has a 24" Creedmore barrel for sale. Thought you should know because it would put a budget barrel on the PSA in the same size as the proof barrel.
@@kotaboy32 I just know that you had entertained the idea of a 24" barrel but couldn't find one and got excited because I found one. 20" is 4" longer than anything I own and 25 meters is the furthest I shot.
A barrel to barrel unfired comparison would have been better , I bought a air gaged Douglas stainless for a 300 Win/Mag that was flawless for $370.00 which was as good as the Proof that was within.0001 fore to aft
Isn’t amazing on how gun barrels are made the same specks same metal then some manufacturers say my barrel is better so I’m slapping 1000 dollar price tag on it but it’s still made the same as a 100 dollar barrel lol
Looking at your $479.00 PROOF barrel beside the PSA Upper& Barrel..My Question is how FAIR do you think it will be with the two barrels not being the same Length..We know Longer Barrels have the Advantage and the Rifle length Gas System damn sure does not kick as hard. That is a nice EndoScope..Where did you buy it? Id like to get one.
at 1000 yards 4" extra inches of barrel might be a slight advantage! at 300 yards not so much so, but at 1000 I'm sure we're talking about a few inches more drop with the shorter barrel. . .This contest is rigged ~ LOL
Dang Kota. Would you please send me one of those stickers? Please. Collecting stickers to put on my safe. And can’t afford a proof barrel. But a sticker would be cool

id like to see the bca barrel with the bore scope. you got me curious :)
I just finished my first 308 with a proof barrel and I haven’t even tried hand loads and it’s already shooting 3/4 with factory loads.
Love that hand lapped barrel think there will be a solid diff in accuracy in this build vs the psa

Why does a $500 barrel have pits in it?
Microscopic pits are in all metal surfaces, you'd barely notice those imperfections with the naked eye. The endo light source really highlights pits.

I glued the mirror on the teslong because it pivots to easy.

Do you think breaking a barrel in helps ive done it both ways and what ive found out is that you either have a shooter or you dont
308 guy AMEN to that. It either shoots good or it doesn’t no matter what!
Some barrels shoot better with fouling
Criterion or Proof stainless 18 inch for 308?

Very Cool barrel Kotaboy32 !!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve gotta tell ya I’m not too impressed with proof after looking at both I actually think the PSA looked a little better even though it was dirty
Very interesting as usual
Proof better hope this video goes well lol. Better hope that PSA doesn't put it in its place.
honestly anything more than 1/2 moa out of a 500$ barrel Id be upset
How much difference is there in accuracy between the two barrels?
Do Proof barrels come with a barrel nut?
what bore camera is that i need that mirror AND camera setup for personal use

Do you have a link for that teslong borescope
Hope they shoot better than the 5.56. To be honest I was disappointed in those builds. I didn't like how either one was shooting.

Kota that was almost an unfair comparison because the PSA barrel was not clean and new IMHO.
Thx for sharing your love with the pew pew community
