      If I can ask - What are the usual qualifications needed to become a tramway driver where you live? Is this something a 30yo can start looking up to as a career or does gathering the knowledge and studies take a long time?
      Thanks in advance!

    • @ouaoua11
      @ouaoua11 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @gabrielromancena4788 30 yo of course you can. I was a bus driver and became a tramway driver at 43 yo . you need a car license. A bus or coach license is better. Usually the tramway training is done within the transport company !

    @15:15 to the right is the royal library, to the left the national archive. (the buildings are linked together at ground level under the elevated tramway)
    I worked in the library building for almost a decade and was there when the extension to the storage area (magazijn) was build (the bit the tram passes under).
    There used to be a public multistorey car park next to the building, next to central station, with some siding/turning loop on the roof for the trams. We used to look out onto it from the meeting rooms :)
    But as the road there was closed to the public, and the car park was removed, they changed the layout of the tracks, also the entire level of the trams was changed....
    A part of the old road is still in use, for access to the underground car park that is there now.

    • @tylerdurden6829

      In Germany it is pretty much like you said. You just need a drivers license

    • @jimijames9792
      @jimijames9792 Před 3 měsíci +3

      I've been a tram/lightrail driver and am now a train driver. You just apply and they test you. At first they take you for a drive in a tram to see how you react when driving for the first time. After that, there will be testing for medical, reaction, short term memory, intelligence. There is also a psychological test and a session with a psychologist.
      Pass? Then you'll receive training. After you pass a bunch of written tests and practical exams, you get your 'drivers license' for tram.

    Interessant allemaal, zeker voor iemand die als jongen nog met de PCC-trams reisde en eigenlijk "machinist" wilde worden. Hoe bedien je nou de wissels, voordat je er op afrijdt met een "links-rechts" knop of gaat dat meer automatisch?

    Toch een vraagje. Hoe kan de bestuurder zien (of controleren) hoe een wissel staat? Een enkele keer zie ik een verlicht signaal dat de richting aangeeft. Maar meestal zie ik niks.

    • @Trammeneer
      @Trammeneer  Před 3 měsíci

      Er zijn verschillende soorten wissels. Bij elektrische wissels is er (meestal) een wisselmatrix die inderdaad een richting aangeeft (blauwe pijl). Binnen het gebied van de tramtunnel (Ternoot tot Brouwersgracht) werken we met andere soorten seinen. Soms zijn wissels mechanisch of elektrisch buiten dienst, dan moeten we op zicht controleren of het wissel in de juiste stand staat.

      We have a system called OV-chipkaart which means that people have a card through which people check in and out. Nowadays it is also possible to check in/out with your bank card. This can be done inside the tram. For visitors, there is also a ticket machine in the tram itself.
