    I did the same thing and I’ve never seen such strong roots in water propagation! If you are interested in seeing them I made a video on it. I’ve got my cutting potted up now and it’s doing great.The only thing better than a Fiddle Leaf Fig is two Fiddle Leaf figs!

    Awesome video! Thank you!
    I do have a couple follow up questions... While the cutting was in water, where did you keep it (light, temp, environment, etc)? And what type of fertilizer are you using? 😀 Your plants look great!
    Also friendly tip- when you cut from the parent plant use some cinnamon over the open area to keep out any pest/disease while it scabs over. 😊

    • @Lokash80
      @Lokash80 Před 5 lety +2

      Faith Jones I’ve done this before, indoors with lower light levels away from direct sunlight. Don’t bother with fert until it’s rooted. Liquid feed for best results. But I just use the cheapest granulated shrub fert and I probably feed it 3-4 times a year. Lazy but crazy 🤪

    Thanks for showing the progress of the roots starting off in water. Now I know what to watch for and how long it might take. Very helpful. I would plant my cutting in a bigger pot to begin with so that the roots have more space and soil to become established before having to re-plant to a larger pot.

    • @livross4264
      @livross4264 Před 5 lety

      Placing a new plant in a pot that is too large can actually increase the risk of rot, believe it or not! The roots can only draw up water from soil they can reach, so if you have a lot of extra soil, the water could sit and potentially create mold or rotting conditions. The size pot he used was almost perfect for the size of the cutting, especially with a sensitive plant like the FLF! 😊

  • @Mizlizlumbriz
    @Mizlizlumbriz Před 5 lety +5

    Sorry but just a couple more tips.. you can add a little aloe Vera (goo) to the water or roots: it acts as a natural root hormone. I don’t recommend store bought root hormones or regular fertilizer with this one, it’s too much for the plant. Also, make sure to tap your pot on the table after every few inches of soil to get rid of air pockets... water thoroughly when first repotting; any bubbles are a sign of air pockets, continue to water until all pockets are gone and allow fiddle lead to dry out (water stops running out of the pot) before placing back in its ceramic or woven, well ventilated pot. Good Luck with this snooty beautiful tree..

    • @Jack-oc2xq

      Use a mix of Soil + Perlite, or my preference is 50% Soil, 30% Coconut Coir, 20% Perlite for better drainage but keeps soil moist for longer! Add a splash of seaweed / Seasol in spray bottle w/ water and spray to accelerate your cutting once it establishes roots!

    HELP!
    Long story (not so) short, a friend of mine had a FLF about 4 feet tall with about 12 leaves (some brown spots, nothing big). It didn't grew any new leaf in a whole year. ROOT ROT (overwatering). We take te top of the plant but the leaves didn't make it, they started to curl and dehydrate, nonetheless we kept the cutting (just the stem in water). Later we repotted the plant, with fresh soil. It was too much stress I guess they just started to look droopy. so we make 5 more cuttings (6 total with the first one). few days later the cuttings had the same fate, curling and turning gray. Apparently it was some kind of fungus that killed the leaves. still decided to keep just the stems in water. Few weeks later we noticed it had some root showing, those little popcorn roots on all the stems, since it doesn't have any green to get energy its been very slow.
    To my surprise, new growth is showing, I don't know if its new leaves or new branches or something, but most of them are very near to the roots, how do I plant these cuttings? if there's so little root but there is leaves or branches growing can I keep them underwater? do i plant them right now, even with roots growing above new green stuff? HELP ME!!

I really love to propagate anything that will grow and give me another plant. I mainly propagate outdoor plants though. If you could please propagate some of the plants that are harder to grow would be awesome. I need to air layer my FLF Tree because one of the trunks are shaped in a “Y” and doesn’t look very good. I’m scared to air layer propagation because I’ve never done it I’ve only seen it done. Have you Air Propagated before??? Maybe you have a plant is in the same way and need you to Air propagated. Anyway I love the videos and feel like I’ve learned something watching you. Thank You, keep PROPAGATING I love to learn and reep the benefits. ✌️ TJW
