  • This video is about propagation of indoor plants Fiddle-Leaf Fig (Ficus Lyrata) from cuttings with 90 days updates.
    As its name implies, the fiddle-leaf fig has leaves that are shaped like a violin. Wildly popular as a house plant, the fiddle-leaf fig makes an architectural statement with its unique and lush leaves. However, please be aware that this plant is finicky and can be hard to keep alive.

    Keep it simple, use moist cocopeat or thoroughly cleaned spent tea leaves with some antifungal powder. It encourages root growth in less time. You can also wrap the plant with these materials to grow ariel roots anywhere on the plant within a week or so.

Hi from the UK🇬🇧. My expensive ficus lost ALL its leaves.😭. I think I gave it too much water at the wrong time. All my leaves turned brown or had brown spots before falling off. Only the stem now left standing. I would like to propagate pieces of the stem in water. How did you sterilise the cutters? When the cutting left in water grew roots why did you not place it straightaway in soil? How long do you leave it in the Leca before placing it in the soil? And what type of soil is needed? Also, what type of feed is good for the plant? Also, also, where is a good place for them. In bright sunlight or near a window?
    I didn't realise you could propagate plants in various ways ie cut the leaf in half. Thank you for sharing😀. I am learning a lot about this plant.

    • @thegreenearth
      @thegreenearth  Před 2 lety

      Hi, just use alcohol swab to sterilize my cutting materials. I am growing most of my plants in semi-hydro method like in leca. My fiddle-leaf is growing well in leca and I did not transfer to soil anymore. And I am using General Hydroponic Flora Series fertilizer. You can put your plants near the window where it can get indirect sunlight if not available use a grow light.

      @@Breaktheduopoly I took 4 cuttings off the main stem and dipped each in root hormone and placed them in water. Every one of them grew leaves and they all now have the beginnings of roots, bar one. I stuck that last one in soil to see if it would grow roots this way. So far it has not. The remainder stem in the plant pot has 7 leaves and new buds. It is sat near a window which gets the sun in the afternoon. I check the soil in the plant pot regularly and have inserted a glass bowl with water which slowly lets water seep into soil. I do a finger test and if the soil feels damp I remove the bowl. The cuttings are still sat in water with the root hormone. The roots have appeared on the stems like small white bulbs but they have not as yet grown long like normal roots. I don't know if I need to wait for the roots to grow long before placing the cuttings in the soil. I have changed the water and placed new root hormone on the ends of the cuttings.

    Hiii! What wilk happen if I put a leaf (without any branch) in water or soil? Will it grow?

    • @thegreenearth
      @thegreenearth  Před 2 lety

      I did not tried that yet. But I think it would be the same with rubber plant. If you just root the leaf alone without stem it will just root but not grow as a new plant.

    • @thegreenearth

    • @thegreenearth

      Yeah they called it edema or means your plants is over watering. But in my case, those spots appeared initially when the new leaves are developing, and later on as they matured these spots disappear.
