If her agent had called her doable, she wouldn't freak out because that's industry jargon. But when Howard says it it's talking about her as a person not a product. As a successful product she has the potential to earn millions of dollars and become financially independent. So even though Howard used the same word, the context and meaning and emotional impact or quite different. If Howard had been a powerful Hollywood agent who could get her jobs and was talking business with her then she would have reacted differently.
@@macmcleod1188 so what you're saying is that when a woman is complimented as an attractive person, it doesnt matter; but when she is objectified for money, that's completely ok? I wonder why women dont want to be objectified, but then turn around objectify themselves by sell their bodies and their image on only-fans.
@@samdushukyan9595 it's all tangled up with informed consent and self-control. Firstly the difference between a compliment and harassment often depends upon whether the person giving the compliment is considered attractive or Not by the person receiving the compliment. Handsome guys and pretty women get away with saying and doing things that result in punishment for average or unattractive people. Even with Hollywood oh, the context matters. If the agent is talking about her as being a doable type to get her a job in a movie then she's probably fine with it. But if the same agent is talking about her as doable to his friend she may feel degraded and uncomfortable. Men make similar choices around hard labor. No one wants to be an Alaskan fisherman. But for several thousand dollars a week, they fill the boats. Context always matters. Consider that another person says you look hot and they want to kiss you. One it's a nice attractive girl you know. To it's a crazy looking girl who still hot that you don't know. Three it's a really unattractive woman who's very overweight and has body odor and is missing teeth. four is a six-foot-five 280 lb man. 5 is a mid 50s female is extremely wealthy and can take you around the world on her yacht and may end up giving you close to a million dollars in cash over the course of the next two years. Context always matters. Often what seems illogical or irrational makes more sense when you have more details about the context.
@@macmcleod1188 I hear you. In all the cases you described, whether I'm repulsed or attracted by the person offering the compliment, I get that at the core of the matter is just a compliment and the other persons thought. @@samdushukyan9595 No. Penny is choosing to be part of an industry where being 'doable' type is like being a midwest type or any other types. I agreed with you that these term is potentially offensive to us. Bit even of it is eradicated, then a new word will be used because these need to quickly communicate that you have talent that can fill the part, jargon and abbreviations arise naturally movies and plays with 'doable' parts will continue to be made and need a quick way to filter down thousands of actors to a few hundred quickly. The back the original joke it was a self reflective choke on the industry and probably depicts something the writers have actually seen happen many times.

1.26 what a hypocrite, Howard called her doable and she found it insulting but it's ok for her to say it about herself?
As long as the thought remains a thought, there is no reason for me to be excited or upset at someone's thought.
You mentioned consent. Do I now need a girls consent to think she's doable? Lol
And yes, I saw the egregious double standard regarding whether or not something is sexual harrassment or compliment.
@@samdushukyan9595 No. Penny is choosing to be part of an industry where being 'doable' type is like being a midwest type or any other types.
So she's not offended when an agent uses a stereotypical term to sell her to casting agents.
However, when a non industry person says the same thing it's offensive to her.
I agreed with you that these term is potentially offensive to us. Bit even of it is eradicated, then a new word will be used because these need to quickly communicate that you have talent that can fill the part, jargon and abbreviations arise naturally
movies and plays with 'doable' parts will continue to be made and need a quick way to filter down thousands of actors to a few hundred quickly.
We also see this with Actors who take all kinds of crap to break into this wealthy field who then suffer flashbacks, depression, and ptsd later.
The back the original joke it was a self reflective choke on the industry and probably depicts something the writers have actually seen happen many times.
Alright, that is how it works. Two struggling girls working as waitresses are making their ways to prosperity by connecting to pharmaceutical industry, way to go. One very quickly becoming microbiologist although we never saw even traces of process of painstaking education needed for that and other one became pusher of pharmaceutical while others are still struggling doing complex science and engineering often mocked by writers. One more time, way to go.
Bernedette was already working on her Phd while at the Cheesecake factory. She used her position to get Penny a sales job. Penny was struggling with JC courses.
Jobs like waitressing are about all you can do when you’re working on a master’s or a PhD. It really eats up most of your time. Penny was a waitress/bartender. Bernadette was a PhD candidate who needed money. Big difference.
Again, this is another reason why Penny and Leonard need to divorce
+wbslnger2004 FUCK the word divorce and celibate YOU for bringing it up!! My parents pulled a d when I was in elementary school and I hated it! I hated EVERY day of life afterwards! My whole world fell apart! Eventually I grew up, my asshole father DIED, and I put it behind me. I wish CZcams would show the thumbs-DOWNS counts too!
whiteribbonman1 um...wow. I’m sorry about that, that sucks, but I mean like they don’t have any kids. The only people that they are affecting are themselves
No, Leonard could never recover.
@Christopher BinghamNo. Penny deserves a good, happy life too - I can't say it that would be Without Leonard, are you so sure ?
@@whiteribbonman1Good for you. I hated it that my mother and father never got a divorce. That's more traumatic.
Penny's arrogance😂. She said she was good at acting. Women literally leeched of Leonard her entire 20s.
Hey Pen, I need your help with something. Hi. Also^ thing up there.
Isn't the "Girl Next Door" Type supposed to be Hot?!
If I knew someone I was dating, let alone had married, was asked to talk about why they were with me - and they immediately said they didn't want to - I'd pack up and leave, straight away
@Christopher Bingham -- Leonard is too much of a simp to ever leave Penny. Frankly now that Penny makes real money, the question is why does Penny stay with Leonard? What does Leonard bring to the table?
