  • Welcome back to PCGS Unboxing #7 for the channel. This time I sent out some Washington quarter, Franklin half dollar, and Lincoln cent varieties along with a few silver proof Washington quarters and a Morgan half dollar. Did I get the grades I expected or did PCGS once again crush my dreams?

Great video! On that 1962 66+ proof quarter (#3) - you are the only 66+ in the PCGS population report - so that's pretty cool. On the 1951-S/S - at least they gave you the minor variety attribution - I didn't know they did that. Nice DDO on the 1941-P quarter! The 1961-D/D penny was really sweet! I have yet to find one of those. And that stinks on the cleaned coins - I know how you feel!

Thanks for watching @SouthernMetal! I guess I just don't have the power of the opossum to get those top pop variety grades. All in all, it's still better than my last submission.

I think PCGS just has a policy where they have to break your heart at least once per submission, haha. Nice finds all around though! Some awesome stuff.

Good job on those D-CAMS! I didn't see that qualifier either, but guessed the grade right. PCGS is pretty consistent.

Yes they are very protective of those top pop cuz its friends and family members of PCGS who got those.

Great Video you did very well not sure how many coins you get graded from PCGS they are tough on the 1960's Proofs you did well with the earlier proofs. I have had 100's of coins graded by them and got very good at it getting nearly 50% right at the tail end of my grading. The secret to grading coins is to have examples that are the graded from same company of the same type of coins with the grades you are after it helps a lot. It is important to pick one type of coin and really learn the coins changes from full strikes and of course the hardest one luster. I also would only grade MS-66 and MS-67 Lincolns which helps a lot to be more exact with the grades. I have 500 pounds of Lincoln bank rolls that I collected since the early 1960's. You need to realize getting a few issue coins is actually a great thing because now you have examples of questionable color and cleaned coins to compare to the coins you have questions about. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for watching! I've done plenty of grading, probably too much at this point. I do have a full playlist for both PCGS and ANACS submissions. I believe I've gotten much better over time. And I certainly agree with you about becoming an expert in a series. I predominantly submit and collect Washington quarters so I'm much better grading them than any other series.

Wow, that 54S cent looked like a 1943 steel! What conditions, whether natural or intentional, would have made it look that way? Over the years I have seen a few pale pink or light red cents before but not one like that.

I wish I could tell you. It's a crazy coin in hand. Great luster, but a very silvery tone. At a glance, it looks like an off-planchet strike until you turn it and see the red peek out underneath the tone. Thanks for watching!

I'd like to tell you why you got some cleaned coins, but I have that same problem too. It is hard to tell a lot of times. I bought a coin recently that is slabbed as cleaned, but I am going to break it out and re-submit because it looks identical to the pics that PCGS has on their site for a straight graded coin. I just want to test the waters on that one, LOL. We shall see. Overall not bad submission though, you got some nice coins there.
