    Mike, nitpicky BS comment, but a Boilermaker is a person that builds boilers..or did. A boiler room is proper slang for the heart/lung of an animal, like a boiler would be the 'heart' or power plant for some system/equipment. Always love when some 'expert' tells you the projectile didn't have enough energy...as you are standing over a dead critter. Think you've enabled a lot of us, even old dudes, to rethink what's possible with the right equipment, training, and experience. From experience I know people have taken shots way beyond their capabilities with Kentucky Windage resulting in wounded and lost game. You guys have made it technically possible to take those shots; now its up to us to individually decide what's ethical for ourselves when all factors are considered. Keep putting the shots in the boiler room! Love it.

      Correct this was with the 7 LRM. Most likely shooting the 180 Berger Hybrid. Elk are tough critters. It's not uncommon for a bull to absorb 3 rounds like this, even at close range.

    I know you guys are in the persuit of long range but do you ever take a closer shot if possible? Like say you have a 1500 yard shot do you ever even try and get closer or just take the longest bomb possible? You could have moved to that next ridge and shaved off maybe 4 or 500 yards.

      @@itsmisterbojangles They might be but you would never know it from this video. The shot (3 actually) was way over 1000 yards. A marksman sees how far away he can hit his target..........a "hunter" sees how close he can get to his.

    • @itsmisterbojangles
      @itsmisterbojangles Před 4 lety +1

      @@bowhunt9968 that's silly and immature. and 10 yard shot with a long bow, or a 1000 yard shot with a .338, it all takes skill. don't criticize someone else's discipline just because it's not yours. Have you ever killed an elk in big canyon country in late november or december? the pack out alone is worthy of the label "hunter."

    • @bowhunt9968
      @bowhunt9968 Před 4 lety

      @@itsmisterbojangles i was not criticizing what they accomplished.........I actually complimented their skill. I merely stated "my" opinion, which is neither silly nor immature. We obviously support 2 different schools of thought so I think it's best we agree to disagree.

      @itsmisterbojangles Před 4 lety +1

      Bowhunt 99 you said they weren’t hunters. That’s silly and immature. You’re criticizing their discipline, which is wrong on many levels. Support the brotherhood. It doesn’t matter if it’s done with a longbow at 10, or big gun at 1000, or upland game with a double 12, it’s all hunting and demands your respect.

  • @howardhooley3408
    @howardhooley3408 Před 4 lety +2

    Not ethical! Should only shoot targets at that distance targets don't have to die way too slow cause of bullets going too slow to be lethal

    • @Gunwerks
      @Gunwerks  Před 4 lety +3

      Bullets are going plenty fast to be lethal at that range. Excellent expansion with the 180 gr Berger Hybrid!

    • @idahotrophyhuntplanners
      @idahotrophyhuntplanners Před 4 lety +1

      If that's the way you feel, you probably shouldn't get into archery hunting... that can be the slowest of deaths. "Not Ethical" is absolutely the wrong choice of words.

    • @howardhooley3408
      @howardhooley3408 Před 4 lety

      I can tell it was the right choice of words 🤣! And bow hunting had absolutely nothin to do with it broadheads don't expand with speed like bullets. The real gunsmith is dead on on this issue!

      @mtbadger1346 Před 4 lety +1

      Define ethics in the taking of a life. ANY life. We're waiting.
      There is only one level of dead. Whether in defense of life, or to sustain life, WTAF is "ethics" got to do with killing? Whether killing for food, trophy, and/or to protect yourself/loved one/brother in arms.
      STOP being ethics police and just do your own right thing. What makes you believe, Howard, that you have enough influence in other peoples lives that they actually give a 💩 what you think?

    Having to put 3 into an animal is not good. Curb your ego dude if your going to take an animal take it humanly and with the least amount suffering. Boasting about wind, angle, huge distance and hearing your excuses for not dropping it is pitiful. Unsubscribed!

  • @kgkepes

    Too bad the elk had to suffer for so long due to unethical shot selection.

    • @Gunwerks

    • @idahotrophyhuntplanners
      @idahotrophyhuntplanners Před 4 lety +4

      This is an ignorant statement. People who make statements about this being unethical have apparently never hunted elk. They can withstand a very large amount of punishment. The range had nothing to do with it.
