Guess i'm becoming the weird freak old man who buys the consoles with games I want on them and is constantly playing new games with a massive backlog of games to play. And not just playing 1 game for years.
I understand, but if Xbox is going to put their exclusives on the PS5/PS6 and/or Steam (Deck) and/or Switch 2, then there is no point in buying an Xbox anymore. Saves the consumer buying another hardware.

I find it hilarious that during the ABK trials everyone tried to make fun of call of duty running on a lower end device because they thought it couldn’t be done. I thought 4 was pretty good, 5 is good too. The only thing I didn’t like about 5 was the two semi open world areas. It just felt unnecessary.

Hellblade gonna kick it off this year for Xbox. Seems like this year will finally start the consistency for game releases. Hellblade, Stalker 2, Indiana Jones, Avowed, Flight Sim, Towerborne, and Ara. Summer Game Fest around the corner so more stuff for this year and next
If those games don't stay exclusive and they don't market those games and if they don't do that for 3 more years it won't matter . Xbox had a good 2021...didn't matter when 2022 was empty

The business model for Xbox doesn't work if Steam is on Xbox. Losing 30% on every sale to the biggest game platform in the world is certainly a choice, and Valve isn't gonna agree to being on Xbox if Xbox requires a small fee for access.
Here's the kicker. Even if Valve was interested in having a Steam console, after the Deck it's clear they'll just do it themselves. This won't be like the Steam machines of old, where the third-party manufacturer has to make a big profit on each unit so the Steam machines were low spec and overpriced. Here, Valve can leverage Steam to make a loss leading console, just like they did with Deck.
If this is the big plan for Xbox and not just random musings by Spencer, then the Xbox console market won't be here for very much longer.
Xbox branded PCs would only make sense if Xbox dominated the PC games space. They don't. Steam does.
The change to "grow" will be to abandon the games people love and replace them with disguised storefronts and everyone is cheerleading the death
as a fan of xbox since pre-launch back in 2001, it really is fucking sad to see how far xbox has fallen in the past 15ish years. They have no future as a console producer in my eyes anymore, they marketed the series consoles on a tower of lies.... I'll never give them another dollar far as consoles go, and i'm cancelling gamepass which has ballooned into $18.35 monthly sub, and to me, it's not even close to worth it.

It's not even a large or massively growing market. At best Deck has sold a few million, which isn't bad but a struggling corp with an ever shrinking platform doesn't pivot to an even smaller market to try and turn things around because it won't turn things around. It's in Valve's interests to make Deck because Steam is fucking huge already and it's a way for a small part of that huge userbase to use ways to access that fucking huge platform. Xbox ain't that. The market is stagnating and if a Steam handheld can only sell a few million then an Xbox handheld will sell a fraction of that at best.
@@ooombasa5080 While I'm not a fan of the idea of a handheld Xbox, the handheld gaming scene has been and is more than Steam Deck. The only reason it's getting more eyes on it is because the Steam Deck, and to an extent, the ROG Ally, has commercialized it. Handheld gaming PCs have been available for the past 5 years, and they have been doing well. Steam Deck made it easier for everyone to jump in with a better OS and UI.

It seems to me that Xbox is just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. And if all else fails, they'll still be a huge third party publisher. They're going to make money no matter how the chips fall
This narrative that they're ahead of the curve is hard to believe, I think it is what it is, the great games just aren't there and maybe they're coming but there's no compelling argument to be team green.

I ranked in the top .01% 9f all players in Gears 5 in all achievements because I used to play it for hours a few times on 3 or 4 nights a week for a few years before I sold my series x a few months ago. I only came for Gears news and they shared almost news nothing. Waste of time here. Bye

Noticed only one console maker is saying there isn’t any growth in the industry and these journalist/media spewing the propaganda that’s given to them by Xbox that console sales have not grown (while technically true, PS2 sold so much because it was used as a DVD. Compared the software spending between the past and now).
Why would they not talk about the growth of software spending/subscription spending (aka what Xbox states they care about right?). There’s a reason they don’t release numbers (subscription and game sales) and I don’t understand why know one in the industry calls them out on it.
Right, that's why Mat Piscatella's been out there talking about how much consumer spending has grown YoY, in direct contradiction to what Phil has been saying, and why game studios have been on a furious hiring spree over the past 12 months due to all this growth

I’m a teacher, and a lot of kids still play Xbox. When a poor kid can realistically work and get a used Xbox series S in a week or two of mowing lawns, it makes it a staple of the lower class community. PlayStation has always been the more expensive console, and you’d be surprised at how the younger generation views Xbox because of that.

I was poor as a kid and we still managed to get a console, they were, based on inflation, way more expensive than they are now. I don't believe you for a sec, unless their parents don't give af about them enough to save to buy them a gift they'd want (i wanted a PS as a kid). If the latter is the case, they have more to worry about than playing video games.
If you’re poor you probably shouldn’t be spending hundreds of dollars gaming. Xbox is not cheap either. No console is. Or pc. Gaming is a luxury past time. Just like buying new smart phones or tvs. And besides you act like people can’t get used ps5s or ps4 pros.

glad i have a Series X for back-compatibility's sake after seeing the move to all digital & removing almost all physical presence outside the US the last few years. Won't be surprised if the next "largest leap ever" console is a digital-only cloud-only Copilot-AI-infused system centred around Game Pass & the App store that's once again too early to corpo-speak "disrupt the marketplace". Headlines like this are out there killing a brand before any real announcements are made. Love everything KF does but I'm getting real sick of seeing titles and headlines like this which just end up persuading people the thing they like is "dying."
To be fair Xbox is killing itself with constant double speak, mixed messaging, and an overly ambitious vision to change the meta of how we play games.

Xboxs future looks bright for Microsoft. 3rd party approach, their games everywhere, maybe a handheld device to play the games on. All while Sony and Nintendo stick to their own hardware and exclusives. It's a different approach but i see a better version of the Sega situation eventually happening here.

What I read is that he wanted to *knock down exclusively walls* so games can be played on any hardware gamers want----just like on PC.
Why would a PC user buy into a Console platform using tech architecture from 3~4 years prior just to play on a television?

If Ps6's & neXt-Boxes are going to be $600, why not just spend another few hundred dollars & get a PC that can be upgraded as technology evolves... instead of buying a $600 eventual-deadend?
Xbox Games are suffering from lack of execution. It's that simple.
Maybe it's because Xbox want their 1st-Party AAA games to primarily gear towards selling GamePass subscriptions, while Sony nurtures their AAAs in more of a fashion that they need to achieve sales as, primarily, individual entities.
With AAA's aiming to please shareholders with money-grabby microtransaction fests rushed unfinished to release in certain fiscal years - before - pleasing the consumer experience with finished products with just some spit shine needed.
Helldivers 2 being the most recent example.
Microsoft & Sony need to move forward with 'consumer generosity' & practical scaling in mind, not Activision/Blizzard & Bungie slimy consumer fleecing.
While emphasizing Cloud & handhelds, because they'd never make Consoles with upgradeable component swapping.
Hopefully, Hellblade 2 & Clockwork Revolution & something like State of Decay 3 can wash the recent disappointments of Redfall & Starfield.

An xbox handheld would just be a windows handheld that plays windows games, it would be impossible to play actual xbox games. Steam integration isnt happening either the backend work for that would be way too much work.
Why would it be impossible to play native Xbox games?
Also, I want to add that having other storefronts on Xbox does not necessarily mean that they will sell Windows games. Something like an Epic Games store can exist on Xbox while selling native Xbox titles.
@@stogiermink because all xbox games are going to look for a console marker so they know what version of the game to play, you could just give the handheld a series S designation for example but it's going to run the games way worse because of the power difference. There isn't enough man power in the universe to QA every game to check they work OK in that case. They could manually approve some of the biggest games but the whole catalogue would be impossible

I originally thought of Nintendo, but while they are very successful with handheld consoles, they are not typically the target hardware spec, especially with AAA games. There are many games that aren’t available there since the hardware is not powerful enough.

But... you're not playing Xbox games. Most will be playing Steam, which means Xbox loses all fees from third-party sales and 30% from every first party game. Having an Xbox UI front on an open system isn't gonna make Xbox money. I really don't understand how people keep repeating this. You're talking about a system that makes Xbox less money than their current consoles. It's like you don't understand that PC gaming = Steam. And yeah, "why don't you buy your own PC" is legit with an Xbox branded PC, because that Xbox branded PC won't be any cheaper than a PC because (shock horror) Xbox won't have a 30% ecosystem to loss lead on with the hardware.
If what you three talk about came true, this is what would end up happening:
Xbox branded PC = $800 (because they now need to make a profit from the hardware)
PS6 = similar specs $600. Sony will still be loss leading because they still have a closed system where they take 30% of every third party sale that 120m players buy into.
And that Game Pass dream is just that. Game Pass isn't growing on PC. 80% of GP subs are on console. PC players want to buy their games from Steam.
