- A video showing how a 6.5 detroit turbo works and all the components. I thought perhapse I needed a turbo but it actually was the vacuum pump.
Thanks for watching. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
i love old trucks. They are so much better than the new ones. Simpler, more reliable and easier to fix when things go wrong.
I feel amazing being part of the 6.5 community. My first diesel truck and it is this motor. I want to learn About these motors so much
6 more pounds of boost. Your going to feel that. Great job as always.
That series is looooo nnnnnngggggg but worth every minute of watching and rewatching thanks for the Playlists Tinman!
They say the 92 and 93's were the best i have a 94 and lots invested but its hard to stop, great old truck, its my weld unit and made me lot of cashola
Cool video tinman 🤙🏼 i love those old Detroits. I think the ol 6.5 needs a stack on her now and she’ll be mint 😁 Keep the cool videos coming man
You gotta love these trucks . They ride so good
Nice 6.5 Turbo Diesel. I have a 1993 Chevy Silverado Z71 xcab and I was looking to buy possibly a 93 6.5 extended cab three quarter ton 4x4, but it sold . Nice trucks.
Tinman please do more videos on that truck, looking at a 98 Silverado with a 6.5 at the moment, too, but don’t know that much about them yet … so humbled to be a part of this community
If you have any questions I'd love to help!!
Good job, 6.5 diesel in Europe is something unreal and than again Canada and USA is normal. Sounds healthy.
Thats got to be sentral europe, I'm from norway and here is a god amount of gm400 modells, tahoe ,suburban's and pick ups ,and 9 out of 10 would have a 6,5, the petrol ones are wery reare, I personaly run a 97 tahoe 6,5 ,been my dayli for 16 years with no issues other than normal maitenanse, and had to change the vac pump to,but then again after 26 years it's aloud to be worn out. Best truck i ever had. brs
Thanks foe sharing. I lost boost on my Nissan truck through a perished vacuum line. Easy cheap fix to replace the vacuum lines.
Awesome video Tinman
Congrats to your fix. Nice to have more boost than you ever had before. Have fun with your new Engine !!! 6,5 liter Turbodiesel, holy sh**. Thats over 3 Times my 1.9 tdi Golf Mk4 . The Taxes for that Engine would be to expensive here in Europe.
Awesome video Tinman!!! Diesel without boost is like a gasser with multiple misfires, power wise. Take er easy friend
Thanks Mr ironman
Great stuff! Love the channel.
Thanks Mark
DAMN boss 118mph! WOW got that diesel power hustlin!👍😁 Hell i haven’t even had my 15 YOTA taco TRD sport up that high yet NICE 😏😁
Love the content tinman. Coming from a guy who also enjoys old school vehicles. Just stay away from k&n air filters for your turbo. It lets too much fines in. I run a Donaldson on my old 7.3
Heck yeah Tinman, way to go. The old Detroit lives ❤
The pulley removal tool kit is usually available as a rental at auto parts stores (in the US) if you don't want to buy your own. Ford used the same design on their power steering pumps.
Tinman, you may be able to get a little more boost by tightening the wastegate if its possible on your setup, and if you have a ring on the cool side of the turbo, you can remove that as well. It's a diesel buddy, it's going to be dirty and oil everywhere, lol. Love these videos from you, keep it up man, take care.
6.5 don't like high boost! It's not a Cummins, d-max or p-stroke.
Have owned 5 of those gmt400 trucks over the years and still have my first, a 1990 c1500 5.7 with just shy of 700k miles! Where I live, rust is almost unheard of. The one's I've owned have all had either the 5.7 or 7.4 gas engines. Always wanted one with the 6.5 turbo diesel and have driven one but they're few and far between here, probably 1 of 100 you see has the 6.5.
Before they moved, my neighbor had a freakin cherry 98 crew cab k3500 6.5 with 30k miles that was just their beater trash truck, only got driven every month or 2 to the dump when the bed got full. Would not sell it to me, even when I offered 1k over book value.
This is my second or third truck like this, I grew up with these trucks so they will always have a sweet spot.
Here it seems like 1 out of every 5 is a diesel. They are super common here but all of them are rusty.
Repairing the vacuum pump is recommended. Bypass ing h putting a manual spring on waste , recommended, went from 11lbs to 15lbs of boost. But it only goes to 15 when under heavy load . Then it gets the JOB done
Be careful the poo poo don't catch you 😂. How wonderful is it when you figure out an issue repair it and the results speak for themselves. Just did my stabilizer links and upper and lower ball joints on my 04 chevy avalanche. Upper ball joints were like a baby rattle. It was definitely time. I'll send you a email. Garrrrrentteeeed you will laugh. Good stuff. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
That's funny we used to have an avalanche, loved that thing.
That's how I got my 01 z71 silverado for 1/6th of book value 6 yrs ago. Previous owner was a family friend that was great about routine fluid&filter changes but probably hasn't ever picked up a grease gun. He's a hunting guide and that was his main rig for 4 years... needless to say, the entire front end was so haggard that I wasn't brave enough to drive it 20 miles to my house! Trailered it home.
Darn good truck now!
nice truck but i still like me old F truck 8 MPG
You should put some marvel mystery oil in the fuel it’ll help clean the injectors and piston rings.
I run sea foam through her once in awhile. I dump some fuel treatment in every tank also
Lookn good sir
When you get the new filter cut the screen out of the old one and put it on the mouse side.
6.5 turbo diesel gets the job done
Hi tinman ,love your shows, I watch every one ! I have asked before if you can make me a small pipe for my 3120 ,is this possible? And also you never really menchon that saw , it is already a strong saw but rather use it for trunks I want to put a 32" on it and I want a small pipe on it, am in Gorebridge scotland .
I have 1998 GMC 2500 it takes a long time to start it
Oh try a dryer sheet to keep the mice away
I was hoping for a turbo rebuild 😂😂😂😂
Save the wire mesh from the old filter and put it on the dirty air side of the filter and that will stop the mice from chewing
I'm going to do that for sure
Got one for the last 20 yrs.
Zip ties and bias plies , then tinman, my two canadian truck homies haha 😂
I just subbed to him!!
Where could I get a used '94 6.5L turbo intake manifold with EGR (or with EGR cover plate) pls?
Harmonic balancer keep an eye on. Can kill an engine in no time.
JUST LIKE A SWISS WATCH
Slapping a spring on the wastegate arm mounted to a little L bracket works a treat on the old 6.5s. Get rid of the vacuum pump issue entirely.
Did it throw a code after install? I'm looking into doing that soon
@@wild1athletics no code, but I'd be sure to run a boost gauge so you make sure you aren't throwing too much pressure at it.
Losing boost pressure= boost leak or wastegate staying open or turbo going bad
You could have deleted that pump and get ab accesory belt from a 93 6.5.
They sell kits to control your wastgate mechanically.
How come u didn't delete the vacuum pump and go mechanical?
Hey man, I’ve got a 1997 2500 Cheyenne at idle it’s pumping about 20. Not sure what it is when I’m going down the road. But when I start to drive down the road and change gears to give it RPM it’s like it cuts off not that the truck dies. It’s locked no power and it’s missing. I guess you could say white smoke and just will not take throttle. Why do you think this could be?
What do you think could be wrong with my 97 ,6.5 turbo diesel?
It starts fine and idles fine and when I start to drive it ,it’s like it loses power and does not die but starts to miss somewhat. I turn off the ignition and it cranks perfectly and idles fine it will not take throttle. I’ve replaced the injector pump the lift pump the east gate solenoid. Also the crank shaft sensor and it still does this same stuff I’m lost as to the problem? Any advice would. BE great
More boost 😉😁
New bearings?
Could you have heated and dropped the pulley on?
Does anyone know if spraying peppermint oil in the engine bay keeps critters from chewing?
Not sure🤔 keeping the hood popped when parked has HELPED many people I know.
Can I send mine up there for you to fix
If you can find a big enough 📦
@@tinmanssaws 😂
Now you need to play with the waste gate now 12 psi would really wake it up
I'm scared to give this thingbmore boost, she's old and these 6.5s don't like the boost much.
@@tinmanssaws it will be fine 🤣🤣🤣 show her who's boss 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I bet if you do all new hot side and a new responsive Turbo I reckon it would really wake it up
NO POWER COMING UP HILLS.AND WHEN PULLING CAR??
Leave some Decon rat bait in the air box for those rodents.
Just delete the pump put vacuum pump delete belt on put a spring and nut on Westgate ur done
I deleted the whole truck and replaced witha 7.3 powerstroke lol
