It is absolutely crazy that you already finished a 1000 piece puzzle (and more) merely by doing all the edges. This thing is a monster.
@nilsp9426 Hi and thanks for watching. The border has 1196 pieces but we are not quite done with it yet, there is one place in the sky where we can't complete it. We have all the border pieces just not in the right places yet.
John sooo happy to see you again... Love your videos and update and you are truly doing a 42000 piece puzzle...yes I watch those other channels too... you are in very good company !!! I have never done more than a 1000 piece so I live my dream thru you.....I am glad you have family to help what a great family memory you are making.... we enjoy you and your channel, you could just come on and say hey!! we would enjoy... Love the shirt lookin good today.!!!!
@kathylynn1375 Hi, thank you, and good to hear from you again. Yes it is a good excuse to get the family together more than usual. It's hard to believe that this is the 6th month of working on it. Thanks for listening to me ramble on.
My cheeks hurt from all the smiling I did. This is so wholesome
@irenetjale2340 Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching
John, thank you very much for the shout out. I am totally in awe with you and your journey with this puzzle. As you know I have it as well. I am considering mixing as you did but not sure where or how I could put it together. I am finding your knowledge of what you are learning through this process as very valuable to me for when I tackle this puzzle. Right now I am in the middle of my Ravensburger NYC 32K puzzle. My son told me I should mix it, but when I looked it closely I felt that it would cause me more pain than enjoyment, so no mixing. The Educa 42K is my favourite puzzle of all the large puzzle. Mainly because it is one picture as opposed to a collage of smaller pictures. I do look forward to your update every month love to see your progress and to hear about your troubles as well. Keep up the good work and we will see you next month.
@puzzlingin2worlds Hi Russell, you're welcome for the shout out. The 6 of you puzzlers that I mentioned were the inspiration for me getting a big puzzle and the reason that I stay excited about working on it. I remembered you saying that you had this puzzle and might mix the bags. There is a column of wider (squarer) pieces at the left and right sides of each section, if your puzzle room is big enough you could mix the bags and have two tables and do 4 sections on one and 3 on the other (or 5 and 2). That way you would have it all laid out where you could get to all of it to work on it. Each section is 74 X 81 pieces or 107 cm wide by 157 cm high. I said in my mixing video that I hoped one of the real CZcams puzzlers would do this puzzle with all the bags together so that I could see how someone with puzzling experience would go about it. I'm learning as I go. If you do it mixed or in sections it will be interesting to see. Right now you have your hands full with the NYC 32K puzzle. I think that would be tricky to do mixed because it is almost all buildings. The 42K puzzle has more colors and variety. It is my favorite big puzzle too. I enjoyed your speed puzzling videos and am looking forward to more NYC 32K updates.
Hi John! You're making great progress and I'm really enjoying your update videos! I looked at my 24,000 Life puzzle and yes, I was able to identify those half pieces easily, so they are definitely the same exact cut! 8 pieces over, 14 and 15 pieces up, repeating throughout the puzzle.
I noticed on the video, which is easier for us as viewers to spot since we're not looking at this puzzle daily, that there are a few pieces that are more than likely not in the correct space in that sky area. A couple pieces to the left of the half pieces, there is one piece and a bit to the right, there are two connected pieces, that are more brown than the surrounding sky area. I rewatched that part to find the piece shapes in my Life Puzzle and noticed those different colored pieces stick out pretty good to me. I've done enough big ones now to really look at the colors to try and find anything out of place! 😅 Those three pieces are the only ones I noticed!
You're doing such a great job and I love that your family and friends are all helping in this huge puzzle adventure!
I think after watching you and Russell and Donnalouise and Vicky 😂 that I'll be starting my 40k Mickey Through the Years puzzle in a few weeks - by section though! 😅 I don't have a 20 foot table... Yet! Happy Puzzling to you John! Looking forward to your next video!! 🧩☺️
Don’t worry, he knows some pieces are out of place! 13:20
@Addicted2Puzzles Hi Judy, Thanks for checking, I thought they might be the same cut because the numbers worked out the same for both puzzles. The Life puzzle would be 24 pieces short, but it would have 3 repeat cut sections down and 8 across, with one half size piece pair in each pattern section that would equal 24 extra, which would total 24,000.
It is hard for me to pick out the subtle color differences in the sky pieces. I need to have some pieces together and then stand back or look at it from a different angle to see that it is wrong. You-all that do puzzles regularly I'm sure have a trained eye for slight color differences. I'm not at that level yet, but hopefully someday.
I thought that I remembered you doing a big Mickey Mouse puzzle, but I looked back through your videos and saw that it was the big Disney puzzle. My memory was only half right ( which is about usual ). The big Mickey puzzle looks like fun, I'm looking forward to your videos on it.
@Puzzle Me This After this puzzle, you'll have super trained eyes! 😉 Honestly, I don't notice the differences until I have a piece that doesn't seem right, then I find where I might have messed up. It's hard to see things, but looking at the video really helps!
I've heard the Mickey puzzle is much easier than the Disney Memorable Moments, so I think it will be a pleasure to do!
See you in July John!!
I can't believe it already has been 6 months since you started, its wild how fast the time goes, also, the progress is so good. so many things are coming together. Can't wait for the next part. 🤩🤩
@vinciks1 Hi again and thanks, I can't believe it either. I did the first video the first week of January and started sorting on January 9th. It seems like it's always time for me to make the next video, but it has been so much fun..
Hi John, I am your 599. subscriber. 🙂 I binge watch all your videos.
@palatina6626 Thanks for watching, I can't believe that you stayed awake through all 6 videos!!!
@@puzzlemethis. It is worth it. I love to watch your approach and the progress you make.
Good job to you all. Keep it up
@jeancarroccino8574 thanks and thanks for watching.
Your progress is remarkable! That sky, what a challenge!
@tinag4262 Hi again and thanks, I think the sky and the green pieces will be the hardest, we'll see
I am genuinely so excited this video showed up in my CZcams recommended! So excited to keep up with this journey!
@enteringthetwilightzone thanks for watching and welcome along for the ride.
Well done so far! Keep up the hard work. No disappointment here! 😊
@LadyMystie thanks, and thanks for watching.
1116 hours is amazing! Incredible work :D
@ezra69 thanks, and thanks for watching.
Yes, ‘half’ pieces count too 😂 you guys are full steam ahead!! Wonderful
@inge6280 Thanks , I'm not sure about "full steam ahead", but we are getting there.
That sky looks amazing!
@erickennel9428 Thanks, sorting pieces by shape really helped for the sky pieces.
I'm amazed at your gumption to mix all the pieces together. I definitely get your logic and I would definitely want to mix the pieces together once I start doing larger puzzles, but still.... That's so many pieces!!
You mentioned in one of your earlier videos that the pro-puzzle youtubers made it look easy enough for normal people to try (or something like that)... How much experience do you have with puzzling? The less you have, the more impressive this is!!
@2l5l9 Hi and thanks for watching. I don't have a lot of experience with puzzles. As kids my mom and dad would do puzzles and my sister and I would help. For Christmas a few times I bought the hardest puzzles I could find ( I remember one that had just a close-up of marbles ) probably 1,000 or 1,500 pieces. There was no internet back then so the selection was limited to what they had at the mall. We all go the beach for a week every year and someone always brings a 500 or so piece puzzle to work on in the evenings or rainy days. That has been my history with puzzles until 6 months ago when I started this one. It has been quite a learning curve. Thank goodness for family and friends (and CZcams puzzlers).
Hey, John what great progress your team is making! I look forward to your video updates each month. How amazing this puzzle will be when completed. As I've said before the "Life" puzzle is the largest one I've done, but in 4 sections. In it there are thicker more square pieces at the edge of each section from bottom to top and also 2 rows in the center of each section. If that makes sense. Best of luck. It's looking great!!🙂
@janspearman9310 Hi again and thanks for following along. Thanks for checking. Ye that makes sense. This puzzle also has the bigger square pieces at the edge of each section and in the middle of each section. They seem to have a little, smaller, straighter in or out on one side also. That did help me with some of the the sky pieces so far.
Your doing great considering you mixed the bags for 1 BIG puzzle.......I COMMEND YOU......GREAT JOB. ❤ I enjoy your experience.
@jeancarroccino8574 Thanks and thanks for watching.
Can not wait for part 7!
@erickennel9428 Thanks, it seems like the months go by so fast.
Great progress John. 5 month update already 😅. Time flies. Well done so far. Amazing 😊
@louisescheider7151 Thank you, yes, it doesn't feel like 5 months already.
Great update yet again. 😊 how do you decide who works on what and what the next thing is to work on? Do you keep track of specific buildings etc (I mean in writing it down or having a checklist)?
@tinkerbellarocks Hi again, we work on whatever stands out to us. I picked out some buildings and Dad worked on animals and birds. Sister and some other family worked on signs. Mom has been working on different things. When I sorted, I tried to separate different things and colors so we just look through them and pick out a lot of the same thing and work on putting it together. If one of us is working on something and gets stuck, someone else will help with it. A lot of times someone will start putting something together and by the time they come back to work on it again someone else will have put more of it together. No real agenda or checklist. The nice thing about this puzzle is that there are so many different things to work on, if someone gets tired of working on one thing there is always something else to do. Now that we have some things together we try to find things to connect to them. So, the short answer is everybody kinda works on everything.
Good, now I am up-to-date with your progress...
@PuzzleWacko Hi and thanks for watching.
Wow this is amazing! I can’t believe you have the space to do it all at once. I wish I could say the same! Not sure if you noticed it yet but at 7:18 you can see between the two birds to the right, it looks like there are two pieces that don’t belong there. The colors don’t match it looks like. I know giant puzzles have lots of false fits so I wanted you to just check in case I’m right. I know the struggle lol
@sjones1013 Hi and yes you are right. There are a few spots that don't look quite right. There are a lot more now that I started the light blue section of sky in the middle of the puzzle, what a challenge.
Great progress. And forget ironing. I’ll bring you a bottle of dewrinkle spray. 😂 You’re welcome.
@juliestoltzfoos373 Thanks, nobody told me that there's dewrinkle spray.
To anybody who can answer this, what do people do with these monster puzzles once they are done? I remember as a kid, my parents (who owned a photography studio with a heat press) would press the completed puzzle onto a photo mat so I could hang it up and show off my "masterpiece". But those puzzles were maybe 2 or 3 feet on a side, at largest.
What do you do with a completed 42,000 piece puzzle?!?!?
@meskinYT H, I will probably take it apart in sections that will fit back into the box or in a big tub so that I have the option to take it apart and redo it (or sell it) or put the sections together again if I want to quickly show the completed puzzle. Some people put tape on the back to hold the sections together but I think it is hard to take off, hopefully I can just put each section on stiff paper or carboard and have it stay together.
I looked into my crystal ball and it is a little misty but Feb 29 2028 is the day the last piece goes in.
I don’t think it’ll take that long - but if it did then that’s roughly 20 pieces a day!
42k divided by 20 divided by 365 comes to 5.75 years. My date is 4.75 years away - John of course is underway already. I'll stick with my date ! Thanx for responding.
Hi @johnmarshall9065, I'll put you down in the book, we'll see how close you are.
The clock your looking for will probably be in the pattern section-as far as I can make out. Look in your Mom's pattern sections to see if it's in there. Lol
@jeancarroccino8574, Thanks, I will look there. It should look like a sideways clock, but I just haven't seen it.
@jeancarroccino8574 Hi and thanks for the tip, I did find 2 pieces of the clock in the pattern section, like you said. I need to look for more in there.
