- A breakdown of my favorite transition technique, Match-Cuts. I show how they're used in editing a film making, and how we can take that as animators and use them in Motion Graphics using After Effects. I show how I've used the method in my previous personal projects, and commercial work and how the students of my advanced animation course have used them to great effect.

The Godfather edit made me spit out my cereal. Amazing.
Look how they massacred my boy...
Same 😂
Cut to the new Elvis movie 😂
@@stairwaves 🤣🕺
I didn't know you can make The Godfather look bad. I was wrong in assuming you can't
Dude, the Godfather edit segment was hilarious. Genius work Ben!
If anyone's a tuto to recreate it, I'm all ears lol
Literally had me cracking up at multiple points. Class as usual, Ben. From Ben to Ben. (I'm also a fellow Ben) Cheers for this content.
Thank you Ben. It's good to have the support of fellows in the Ben community :)
Shout out to the Bens from the Dans of this planet!
@@clapostrophy Just doin what a Ben can, Dan. Watch out for the Ben Dans though (in Chinese 笨蛋, that is)
Fellow Ben here
@@mocionne2134 Appreciating the heads up, my man, Ben! One can’t be careful enough these days!
"2:17" Best quote I've heard about modern social media in a long time... You are truly a gentleman and a scholar... Loveth thine style and channel...
The most valuable tutorials on CZcams. I got into motion design because of Ben and now work as a full time motion designer because of these tutorials. The most practical and entertaining tips. Thank you Ben!
How did you get your foot in the industry?
@@michaelcullis5214 I started making my own personal projects and posting them on instagram. Connections through their referred me when people they knew were looking for motion designers. After working freelance for awhile with clients through instagram I landed a full time role at a company in-house. But the personal projects is all where it started!
@@tannermilne6654 that’s awesome to hear. I have hope for my future!
@@tannermilne6654 wow🔥
Could you give your motion graphics insta id

Yet another clean and fun tutorial. Your consistence is inspiring Mr. Ben!
Ben's channel is the closest thing to "must see" for any motion designer. Informative, fun, lighthearted & inspiring. Can't wait for the next video!
I mean I'd watch your funky Godfather remix if it was on offer
I spent 20 minutes trying to find this viral tiktok sound, only to realize it isn't a viral tiktok song. Well played Ben.
It's been amazingly slick to see how far your video skills have grown with your already legendary motion skills. Fantastic compositions and that hair light is just *chef's kiss* sweet. Absolute Legend.
Whatever title or thumbnail you do, I’ll watch. Thank you for sharing all videos you have done in history. You changed the animation world forever.
Beautiful content, Ben, thank you so much! 💛 I guess we all need the video editing tutorial from you! 😍
Hi Ben. Thanks for another great tutroial! Just wanted to say that your improvement in filmaking (the whole estetic of the live footage scenes in the video) is really showing! Keep up the awesome work
Thanks, Daniel! I'm having a lot of fun trying to improve the quality of the videos, but this is just the beginning :D
Thank you for all your helpful info, I love increasing my editing knowledge, and you create such entertaining, yet informative videos!
Happy to see ya! Your enthusiasm is contagious.
I swear these are the only videos I know of with both tons of education and tons of humor. Love it man!
Thanks Rusted P :D
It's always interesting and fun to watch the videos you upload! Thanks, Ben.
Such a good, straight to the point video with the perfect amount of humour 😂 You’re such a joy to watch!
I spent all of last week animating a music video and I found myself using SO MANY techniques and tricks that I've learned from you over the last couple of years. The artist was over the moon with the video and his fans are loving it too, so thank you!
may i have the link to the music video

@@JacobCarlson man this video is soooo good. Could you please explain how you got those amazing textures or is there a way to make them in after effects. I see that this video is inspired by the music video of arms around you by swae lee, lil pump and xxxtentacion.
@@grxfyxthank you very much! I'm glad you liked the video.
And thanks for recommending the Swae Lee video. I've never seen it before so I'll have to check it out.
Almost all of the textures I used in the video were downloaded from Envato Elements. I subscribe there so I can download lots of assets like that.
Yo I watch the music video it's so cool!!
I love seeing you discuss your work
Your motion graphics are sooo smooth and clever! Awesome work.
Good tutorial. Nice to see this kind of content that isn't focused on software or beginner tips, but rather on the principles behind good motion design
Killer work. Another great reminder that match cutting can be a powerful tool in animation storytelling just as much as it is in filmmaking. Personally need to revisit this concept in my own animations. 👏🏼
Another great video Ben! Super helpful as always
So much great work went into this video! Thank you!
What a Great find to learn an advanced motion graphic thank you, Ben!
Adorable as usual, Ben!
LMAO the cuts are HILLARIOUS OMG, great work as always Ben!
This made my day. Looking forward to checking out the rest of your channel.
That 2001 example is perhaps the best match cut in history
Gotta thank you for this video. I just got assigned to make some video with transitions and this came very handy
Thank you this is so insightful!
Great that at the point you mentioned 'keep our attention span long enough to slip an ad in there', CZcams in fact hit me with an ad right there and then. Regardless, love your content - you're a big inspiration!
Makes me kinda happy to use all this stuff without thinking directly about what do I do right now there :D Wonderful video again!
Very few tutorials that are informative AND funny! Lovin’ your work as always dude! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
i was NOT expecting a tiktok editing reference of any sort at all LOL
This video saved my ass🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 thank you so much Ben!
I love you Ben!
And no, I don’t say that to ALL the motion design CZcamsrs
Absolute hero 💪
Am I being gay if I say that too?🙃🙃
Thanks so much for the inspiration!
I work as a 2d animator for a company (completely self taught just with youTube - I am totally aware that animation is a super sophsticated art form and that I am still a BEGINNER, even though my company thinks I am an expert. (haha) )... I just found out that I have already used this technique intuitively. But now - as I am aware of it - I will use it more conscious. Thank you for that!
I noticed even though it is not a great technique but looks pleasant to the eye when we are watching the video. That’s why vox video is a great example of an amazing motion graphic. Thanks a lot and it means a lot to me. Expecting more videos like this one.
Love it! Thanks
Mr. Ben at it again! (with the great tutorial)
basics it's encouraging to learn a little bit more! Well done!
what makes your videos so unique is that you are sooo funny I enjoy your videos so much because I don't just learn I laugh

Hi Ben, thank you so much for this tutorial. I would love to get a chance to learn from you and I am looking forward to learning seamless transitions.
You are absolutely amazing sir. Your work is stunning.
Just... AMAZING! Thank you for information and fun)
It's so amazing😍 thank a lot🙏🏽
I love match cuts! This is one of the techniques that lead to massive improvements in my motion design. This is a great showcase of the many ways match cuts can be used in motion...with just the right amount of humour 🤌
Wonderful to meet another match cutter. :D Glad the seasoning wasn't too much
I demand a full re-edit of The Gadfather like what you showed at 2:30

Wow! Been doing motion graphics and/or video editing for over 10 years now... I never intentionally did this before! 😂 Thanks, I'll be conscious about this from now on!

Ben sense of humor is absolutely underrated.
look at 4:56, this is a gold!
Yes he is a motion graphics genius, and an amazing mentor.
But he is also a very well comedian with a serious face.

Thanks Mr Ninja :) Glad it wasm't too subtle

Thank you!
Nice examples!!
This is the greatest plug I have ever since 😂😂, the Tiktoc edits had me rolling
You are a living god among n, a legend worthy of praise. What you've uploaded here, will echo into eternity!
CLASS!
I love match cuts!
the subtle plug joke gave me a giggle. thanks for the giggle.
Could you do a video on preproduction for clients? Such as, how many ideas do you present to clients? Just one solid idea, two to three for them to select from, or as many as you can think of? How much do you do in regards to all of that before you have solidly ‘won’ the job etc?
"It's not suble... at all." into the edit music earned my instant sub. Lovely videos
I got an ad the second he said "slip an ad in there" and I can't sleep anymore. I don't feel safe at home
God thank you. I HATE the Tiktok cut so much. Removes any subtlety or timing.
Also that breakdown of the wine ad was really educational. It's giving me perspective with things I've never considered before.
I really liked the ghost notes. Well played 👍🏼
Love It!!!!!
So, I tumbled onto this video and decided to try at it for a company ad. My boss love it, thanks a bunch!
hey Ben , I m in beginning stage of motion design but I want to learn a lot of things , any video of yours or others that u can suggest to me for ae and your course intro seems fabulous but it is expensive for me ...
thanks for making useful videos 👍
Ben, you are the best
Don't know if you've noticed, Ben, but I'll tell you anyway - there's some problems with the sound around 6:00.
Great video, as always. Thank you for sharing 😉👍
probably CZcams feature to mute music if it was copyrighted it scuffs up the audio
Yup, noticed this too
@@KianKD I thought about it too, but in one of the previous videos Ben used that "music licensing service" that should help avoid this kind of issues, so I assumed maybe there's something else to it...
Maybe the creator himself could share some information about it 😉
Yep, I had to mute that section because of a copyright claim. The claim is sorted now, but can't find a way to add the audio back. :(
@@BenMarriott bruh 😐
Oh, well - at least the video is "safe"...

thanks
Metamorphosis - Good Books Great Writers Series, is impossibly good!
The way the ad started just as he was talking about media slipping ads into our eyes😅
I would like to see the whole Godfather edited that way please and thank you.
I love the "subtle" PLUG HAHAHA

Ben! I have a topic suggestion for your next video . Maybe you could talk about how you have your mouse set up for ae work?
Ben Ben Ben - you are great! :)

Animation Techniques can do so much :)
I love you Ben. ♥
4:55 Dang I just love your humor 😂
Thanks Ben.
I always notice this Techniques in Vox. Thanks for this
I like the way you did the ‘match-cut’ between the annoying comment and the annoying ad half way through!😀
dude you're efortlessly funny holy shit. props for the fun and genius video!
Hi Ben !
Thank you for all your videos, I'm learning a lot with them. I'm considering buy your course because the animation world's is so cool to me but I don't know how to draw. I saw the fruit of your students (amazing by the way) and it seems that they draw the differents images before animating them, is that right ?
This video was very insightful, Thanks Ben! Also you are looking very fresh in this video , sod the motion graphics drop your skincare routine!! ;)
hey Ben!
to get the best match cut motion,
is it better to set the keyframe one frame before the layer ends,
or set the keyframe right at the end of the layer?
