My mission is to make today the someday you’ve been waiting for.
This is the coaching you need.
And you need to hear it right now.

I am 68 years old. Married 47 years with three daughters, 4 granddaughters and a grandson. We have a good family life. My husband is not interested in getting out of the house too much. I like to travel but money needs to be saved for emergencies. I don’t have dreams or goals anymore. I wouldn’t even know what I wanted to do or be. I cried when I listened because I don’t know what to do with myself since I retired. I am crafty. I have made quilts, paintings, wreaths and crochet. I’m currently making scarves and slippers to give to charities. I’m stuck and don’t know how to get out. I think I am a bit ADHD and/or OCD. I feel like I always have to do something or I get anxious. Relaxing is not easy for me. I love learning. Perhaps taking a class would help. Thanks for the video.

I agree with @adrianafuchs1427. I want to travel too and felt bad because I didn't have money. Well, I found a website of travel in my state. Start with day trips. There could be something in the next town over for you to see. Check out any state parks that are close by. Go to the museums. Many you can get in free with a donation. Small. Google your town or part of your state. It will tell you cool things to do. Then when you can, travel somewhere on a tank of gas for the day.
I have started to go to each museum in my area and paint what I saw. It's not getting me to Norway just yet but it's a start. And I get to learn about art and my local history. Best wishes.

why not start a small business. really when I read this I was nodding yes the whole time. as a person in my 60s as well, I know I am going to be 70 anyway, 75 anyway and so on.....so there is no need to feel that there isn't any point. when I am 70, I know I will have a bigger business than I do now because I am actively building and seeing the results. and yes, focus focus focus. I still put pen to paper and refer to those notes. a good idea flies through the head at warp speed. if you take the first step, the universe will rise up to meet you and you'll be on your way. but the first step has to come from you.

I worked hard to put myself through college with a computer science degree in my 20’s. I loved math and solving problems and was sure I had a bright future. I graduated in a tough market and got discouraged. I got married to a man I was in love with, but he was a narcissist and an alcoholic.
I eventually got a lower level job that used less of my talents and my career has never really blossomed. We had a beautiful daughter. He left me in my mid-40’s for a younger woman. I struggled for years with depression while raising my daughter as a single mom. Thankfully she is going in college and in a happy relationship now.
I turned 58 this year and had a massive emotional crisis and realization that I might never finish what that bright 20-something started.
Since I’m working at home now, and my daughter is grown, and I’m single, I have the time I can devote to finding my purpose again. I have been scheduling chunks of time each day to study and practiced coding interview prep. My plan is to keep learning no matter what, because that is who I always was at my core. ❤❤❤

Bad marriage, complicated circumstances. I have the strong will and desire to make my life what I want it to be and I know exactly what that is, but obstacles, obstacles, obstacles. I pray about it all the time and I do have faith and I will never give up. I recently went back to work and I love it and I want to buy my own house. But shit keeps getting in the way. I read your books, most recently, The High 5 Habit.
I am watching /listening to this and literally crying with my two dogs by my side. I have always wanted to be a lawyer (my Barbies were always lawyers litigating, and winning, cases that violated one of the US constitutional amendments [I am Canadian but watched People’s Court with Wapner when I was home sick from school instead of Bob Barker, so my legal knowledge as a kid was initially shaped by US programs and laws]).
I wrote the LSAT almost 20 years ago when I was finishing my two undergraduate degrees (I got a good score considering I didn’t do any of the practice tests -a la Elle Woods, before I wrote the test). Unfortunately , due to financial and familial obligations, I had to put my dream on hold. Almost 20 years later, it still bothers me that I haven’t been able to do it. I am over 40, so it is scary to look at changing my job and financial security that I currently have in case I am not successful as a lawyer.
After watching this podcast, am going to sign up for an LSAT course tomorrow , so I can get the best score possible which will help me get into law school, so that will enable me to spend the next 20-30 years of my working life in a field I have always wanted to be in.

    Mel…et all…
    I 1000% hear you!
I no longer know how to dream anymore.
I’m 57 and have been at the top of my game in my lifetime, but not now. I lost myself. Thru divorce, tribulation, not great choices trying to get my mojo back while raising my kids. I know what it feels like to be amazing and to be my best self. I know what it is like to have a dream , make it happen and be the best!
I don’t know how to want something for myself anymore.
I have been spinning for 12 years.
I can meet a goal! I can make shit happen :)! I have all the mojo in the world if I have a goal and a dream.
I would love for you to do a podcast on goal setting, dreaming, purpose….

Wow! This post was meant for me at this time. My dream is to have my own small home with a garden. I may have the opportunity to move to another city (and may get the opportunity to have my dream home). My intimate relationships around me don't care about my dream. I stay for them.
But now it's time for me to put myself first.

thank you Mel ! your speech is really striking me. every single fears and excuses you talk about, a combination of all of them has kept me from doing anything, just waiting, avoiding facing it doing other things. and the worst of it is I avoid my fears and my dreams , putting all my energy in working so much for a job I don't really like. so much energy into something not fulfilling . and realizing 10 years have past (this makes me so sad, that I even continue to avoid it, not to see the sadness of it). thanks for this powerful and inspiring speech ! i will start moving my life bit by bit and taking time i should take to start something, like anything! but at least it will be toward what i want or dream !
thanks ! i will listen to this video again, i need it ! to push myself !

Hey Mel! Getting through transitions in my life is the drive behind my book. I taught English for years, but always knew that “someday “ I would publish. I have lost a spouse, remarried, lost parents and friends. I believe I have something to say about how one can reinvent themselves and not be marred down in the past. I enjoy your spunk and not giving a shit! I would almost think you were from Texas like me!
Keep on inspiring and kicking us in the ass when we need it!

Hi Mel, I’m a baby boomer and started writing memoirs which I want to publish in a short book.
I let it go because trouble with an alienating family got me down.
I began yesterday (‘cause I started to watch this yesterday) and just finished watching today. I went over 3 short memoirs, editing each one. I think at least 3 are good to go. Thank you for this video and all of them. …and esp. the one you did with Dr. Joshua Coleman on parental
alienation - which too often stops me from doing everything.
You are one of Gd’s gift to the world. You and your family sparkle.
    ❤💐

Thank you, Mel, for this particular podcast (and all the rest). I have been looking at different options for myself. I turned 65 in July and felt so unsure as where to go from here. After listening to your podcast (and seeing your fabulous mother-in-law earlier this week and realizing that I too could have a great 20 year ahead of me), I wrote my first, very rough, draft of the book that has been in my head for the past couple of years. Thank you for all you do for all of us, and I hope we give you back some happiness in return.

Mel, as always I appreciate your direct honesty and tools. One thing I have noticed is how many people who cannot seem to change their own lives want to be coaches to others. Not everyone can be everything, especially if they do not understand and commit to the hard work it takes. But everyone can become someone they are proud of and live a fulfilled life.
