They've been together for more than 300 years, but for many proud Scots, their relationship with the English has run its course. This report brings you the mood on the ground, less than 6 weeks before the vote.
"Think of Scotland as the wife who's been taken for granted", urges performer and independence campaigner, Alan Bissett. "But what's happened is that the husband (England) just says, 'You're fat, you're ugly, nobody would fancy you'". Like any long-term relationship, calling it quits isn't easy. Domestic affairs have become deeply tangled, and assumptions about who pays for what have evolved into complex equations. For the 'Better Together' campaign, warning of the likely repercussions of ignoring these complexities has earned them the unflattering label, 'Project Fear'. Scots have been told to expect higher taxes, currency transaction costs, and a weakened position in the international community. But for many here, dissatisfaction with Westminster politics runs deep. "I don't think it's a very healthy society in the way that it's developing", explains Shetland farmer Ronnie Eunson. At present, the polls are against him. But as the gap between the 'Yes' and 'No' lobbies steadily narrows, the conversation about Scotland's future, and that of the UK, is getting ever louder.

Terribly poor representation of the debate. A heavy bias towards No was displayed. And, Yes was hugely misrepresented with incomplete sound bites played over bagpipes and clips of braveheart. The producer and presenter should be ashamed of themselves.

EDMOIL Military? What for? To go loot Iraq? To do target shooting in Afghanistan?
Without the Tony Blairs of England, an independent Scotland will not have to do such things. The only reason for a military in Scotland would be if history is any guide, to protect itself from England.

What is UK, England yes, but UK has been a fable for a while now, who can deny that, if Canadians, Australians, and others can move on so do the Scottish, will not make any difference, in fact if you look at it economically and politically you will see both countries will benefit from it, England and Scotland.

After watching two 26min docu's about this topic it seems like the 'yes' and 'no' vote is a battle between the haves and the have nots. The poor wants an independent Scotland thinking things might be better off for them that way. The wealthy are saying, why rock the boat I'm doing pretty well as things are the moment.

So many childish comments in here.
Scotland isn't a colony. We are part of the UK. Many Scots are proud to be British and rightly so.
The nonsense that we are subjugated by England is absolute rubbish. Scotland played a major part in the British Empire (ask India)
Too many people jump on a bandwagon thinking we all want to break up the UK yet it could not be further from the truth.
    Proud to be Scottish
    Proud to be British

english people can fly the red and white all day long. noone cares. its that the english wants the scots and welsh to stay in the UK that bothers me. they want to rule over as much people and therefore maintain political relevance for as long as possible. England used to rule over a vast part of the world. But now in the modern age, England has very little political relevance on the international stage. It lacks the military power of the US or the rising economic strength of the BRIC nations. If it lost Scotland, it would be a even smaller nation that noone gives a fuck about and would ignore.

its annoying to me that there are so many people out there whos only concern is money, that if scotland turned out £1000 poorer per head for a while after independence then it's not worth it, it's so short sighted and miserly, there is so much we could gain from independence and the risks are compareatively small, if joining america meant we would all be on average £1000 a year richer, would you do it?
also everyone gets bogged down on policy as if a vote for independence is a vote for a certain set of policies, remember, its simply a vote on whether we should be allowed to decide our own policies.
