  • This video has been very long coming.
It was recorded about 2 years ago when my 159 had a “ECU failure” or a cutoff switch failure. I was sad as the prognosis was not good and I may have to scrap the car.
It was left at the authorised dealer for two months from end of Dec 2021 to Feb 2022 before it was revived. In between that time, I have bought a new ECU from the AD, but it didn’t work. I had to get it towed to the AD and they reordered another ECU for me. Which was one of the reasons it took so long.
But the second ECU didn’t work too. Some how the immobiliser was activated and prevented the car from starting and efforts to deactivate it was unsuccessful.
I tried myself a few times using the AD’s examiner yielded no results too.
In the end we decided to send it to an independent workshop which has an old examiner that might be able to reset the system.
But the day when they were about to send it out, my 159 miraculous started own it’s own. How did I know this? Cos my 24hrs camera recorded everything.
From how it started to the amazement of the mechanics there, to it moving on its one power up and down the flatbed truck. The journey to the independent workshop and the “Fix” that the independent workshop did to get it started.
But my 159 had already self healed.
They changed the cutoff switch that was in the battery box. Well, mine was really old and I did noticed that the cutoff switch was not resetting as it should. There’s a small sight window that lets you see the condition.
They drove it back the same day and claimed that they have fixed it.
To be fair, the AD did do everything to their utmost and just charged me for the new ECU. They could have opted not to send the car out since it had started on its own, but everything has already been set in motion and the mechanics just followed orders.
The independent workshop did give me a new cutoff switch which was hard to come by so everything worked out ok.
In summary, know everything that is being worked on. Ask lots of questions and have a 24hr camera so you can review what is happening.
Everything turned out well so that’s a blessing. Hopefully this is helpful to all of you.
    Thank you for watching!
