  • It's Day Five of #SixStations as I go and visit the six newest stations in the country that I've not been to yet. In each video I've got a different guest with me each time, and today Jen joins me in Scotland for this new station on the Cumbernauld line between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Follow JenOnTheMove on CZcams here : / jenonthemove
The six new stations in this series are:
Worcestershire Parkway. Bow Street, Warrington West, Horden, Robroyston and Kintore.

While I would be over the moon to even get a train station in the first place (living in a place in the US that is woefully inadequate when it comes to public transportation), I have to wholeheartedly agree with Jen. I think this is a theme of nearly all building these days. Build them as quickly and cheaply as possible, and make them ~clean & modern~ which of course means, devoid of all character. I love seeing all the different stations you visit and the areas they're in as its as close to traveling as I can get right now, but my favorites are definitely the older stations with the Victorian details, flowers and all that.

I live about a mile from Robroyston station and was amazed at your comment that there isn't a cafe nearby, as the Millerston Café on Station Road is only a few minutes walk from the station.
The road bridge over the railway isn't a public road, hence a car park on either side. There is also a local map on the station.
Unusually the station names aren't bi-lingual as ScotRail decided there isn't a Gaelic version of Robroyston, although I think Baile Raibeart Ruadh would be perfectly valid - more so than some of the concoctions they have come up with!
Royston is a separate area of Glasgow, in fact you could go along Royston Road to reach Robroyston.
Geoff was right to guess that locals might use the lifts to cross the railway - people living in Millerston do this having walked to Asda/Lidl etc. in the Robroyston shopping park.
The video was a bit disappointing, some local knowledge would have improved it.

And now I'm just imagining a car that's crashed into that bike rack. As someone who hates bicycles, thank you for that image.

Robroyston is noticeably far from any amenities like shops and cafes. You have to walk into Millerston to find the nearest coffee. A roll van in the car park would do a roaring trade.
