There are also "dual stage" inlet valves, that use extended tubes to stop it from filling past the ideal amount (TM uses these). Once you see liquid gas spewing out the top you know they are full.

@@cillblinton8181Maybe I wasn't clear, @123456kiste's comment does a better job of explaining. I am talking about the silver extended tube "limitation Tube" that shrouds around the inlet valve and works like a siphon to ensure the mag isn't filled past the ideal point. MWS mags have these and they are great. I have had no issues are overfilling it even in winter with ice-cold mags and a warm bottle.

I always love venting valvs ((or 2 stage valves as you call it)
instead of feeling the temperature of the magazine with your mag there is a technical way to get the correct gas/liquid ratio:
    LIMITATION TUBE
Especially TM GBBs are known for venting valves. If you fill them until the valve spills liquid gas the magazine will be full without spitting liquid gas if you shoot your gun.
The limitation pipe inside prevents the magazine to get filled 100%. So with a limitation pipe inside you will ALWAYS get the correct amount of liquid/already vaporized gas inside the mag

finally some actual information on this topic
I got one mag with my GBB pistol that acts like the 1 stage valve you showed, no matter how long I hold the gas bottle, nothing happens. Then I got two more mags from a different manufacturer but for the same gun (I know, very smart) and both act like the 2 stage valve, and I thought I was just dumb and that maybe there's different types of nozzles or something..
I was also filling them until liquid gas started coming out the top, I will try your method from now on

Couldn't you solve the overfilling issue by moving that hole 5-10mm lower, so then when liquid gas shoots out that's the signal to stop filling

all you need is a limitation pipe inside of the magazine which covers the valve.
TM magazines have them so they will always get the correct vaporized/liquid gas ratio if you fill the mag until liquid gas comnes through the venting valve… ALWAYS

    Bullshit.
The reason why the magazine with the "2 stage valve" fills to the top is the limiter tube. The length of the limiter tube prevents overfilling.
The Marui M4 MWS have a LONG limiter tube with a 2 stage valve and the magazines only ever fill to half way. This is why if you want to hold more gas you cut the limiter tube.
