Even brave enough by sharing her thoughts about her sexual fantasies, not only thru her songs, but also, by publishing a sex book, by showing bared photos of her friends and herself. She’s the Queen of Pop. If you cannot justify her love, she’ll do it for you to express yourself. So fire!!! 🤩👍

She is referring to the fashion magazine and all the movie stars on its covers over the years.Vogueing was also part of the underground drag scene in New York at the time.This is one of Madonna's best and also most succesful songs. Paris is Burning is a documentary about The Vogue scene in late 80s.

@@MrJ0NE5 Its called Vogueing because the dancer/performers originally were recreating images seen in Vogue magazine. Also Madonna names old movie stars who graced the cover of Vogue. The video recreates famous paintings in many of its scenes. So there's more to it than just the dance.

The song is more of a direct reference to the dance, vogueing - a dance style that originated in the gay underground ballroom scene as noted. The dance style itself was inspired by Vogue magazine and recreates/interprets the poses of the models in the magazine, so you're both right, really. However the stars referenced in the rap section are not necessarily people that appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine. It was more of a reference to the glamourous Golden Age of Hollywood (1920's to 1960's). They are all cinematic, cultural icons from that time and speak to a kind of imagined glamour and sophistication that ballroom/vogueing was trying to align itself with, but they didn't all appear on the cover of Vogue. Men for instance, like actors Marlon Brando and Gene Kelly were certainly not on the cover. Joe Dimagio was not on the cover but he of course was a baseball icon and married to Marilyn Monroe at one point which is his connection to Hollywood. I don't even believe Bette Davis, Lauren Bacall or Dietrich were on the cover. In fact, Vogue really didn't start putting celebrities on its covers until Anna Wintour took over as Editor in the 90s. Previously it was fashion models that were on the cover and, in fact, during that golden era of Hollywood and the hey dey of those stars, the film industry had its own magazines/publications where you would be more likely to see actors and celebrities on the covers.
The cool thing about this track is how easily it came to Madonna. She jotted down notes and an idea how it might sound. On a Saturday morning, she gave the notes to one of her producers - Shep Pettibone. Her vocals were recorded in one take. Shep had the track finished that afternoon.
Madonna mentioned this in an interview, months after "Vogue" was released.
The night this video debuted we were all mouths agape, wondering what on earth have we just saw. You know something is ahead of its time when, 30+ years later, what you are seeing then would top the charts now.

“Vogue” comes from the underground Balls of New York City in the late 70s and early 80s. The Balls were where LGBT folks (mostly Black and Latino) congregated to walk the runway and compete in different categories. Voguing was like a dance battle, and the winner would win bragging rights and a trophy. It’s called “Voguing” because the dance would mimic the high fashion poses that models would strike in Vogue magazine.

This was a HUGE hit worldwide, especially amongst the LGBT community. You have to understand that in the 80s and 90s, gay people were still being targeted by police, gay bashers and our own government. The dance floor was one of the only places that queer people felt free and safe, so the dance music of that time reflects that longing for uplifting messages. Voguing was a style of dance with roots in drag culture, and Madonna brought us out of the shadows and into the mainstream. She's always been groundbreaking and LGBT-friendly, donating lots of money to AIDS research, so we all felt that she was on our side. Gay fans were some of the only ones who stuck with her through the stormy years when Madonna herself was being demonized by conservative "family" groups.
The Song refers to the vogue dance style, which was created by LGBTQ dancers of color in New York City’s ballroom scene. Willi Ninja is beloved by many as the Grandfather of Vogue, and audiences everywhere got an inside look into this community in the 1991 documentary Paris is Burning.

Well outside America in the 90s, no one knew about the background of this song. But it was a hit that lived on for decades. Now the song may die because of LGBTQ drama associated to the song. The music is great. No need to rape it with over romaticized trivia about so called “colored gays”. Madonna never exploited the gays. Because she has Talent. Vogue is universal and timeless. Calling it a game anthem robs it of power. She ain’t Gloria Gaynor or Cher, She is Madonna.

This is the video where she has the gay backup dancers i talked about in an earlier music video reaction (take a bow?) Yeah Vogue has its own fashion magazine and other stuff i believe,certainly on top of things that has to do with fashion,modeling etc. I grew up with her,so i saw how thankful people became of her,i saw how much of an impact she did (good and bad) on people that tried to suppress what she spotlighted and fronted. Im quite certain that most female artists today,have it ALOT easier thanks to Madonna. Not to forget people with different skincolour and emotional life then straight people. Shes the greatest in my book! And then i look past the odd personalities she has developed along the way lol. Some people just become like that after too much fame and money....
Madonna didn't have backup dancers for the music video and the performances of the song Take A Bow. When she did perform it live it was by herself or with Baby Face and most of the performances except for the American Music Awards show she lip synced which was fine because they were for TV shows that required her to lip sync.

I love that the thumbnail says classy GT. Growing up as a fan since day one of the most famous woman possibly ever and biggest selling female artist of all time. We never ever heard that word. Ever. I know myself personally I was always fending off relatives and they were always siding with the news continually bashing her. The only other celebrity that took it just as hard, probably harder was MJ. Nobody saw anything like the constant bashing they took until probably Britney. Anyways, her fans always saw Classy and this video certainly depicted it. People were so afraid of her. Owning her own beauty and sexuality. It was so crazy to watch unfold in a so called ‘modern’ era. There was nothing modern about it.
Vogue is a gloriously fun masterpiece that has to get anyone moving. Even those people who were trying to take her down. Which is so ironic. I’m sure it went on at a wedding and they got up and danced.

Madonna did sort of talk about WAP. She did it first. Check out her song called where life begins on her erotica album. Way better than wap! Lol
WAP is a direct result of Madonna’s Erotica album. She was the first to go ‘all the way’ in terms of showing skin and talking about sexuality. The album is actually more about relationships… romantic, sexual, bad relationships, relationships between races and cultures, self-love and acceptance and love, friendship, hate, sex and death that relationships can bring… though people tended to focus on the shocking visuals and didn’t go deeper to see all the layers of meaning she was expressing. Where Life Begins, Secret Garden and Rain are all songs that can be pretty clearly interpreted as having to do with ‘WAP’ but like many songs by M, they also have other layers of meaning.

What makes Vogue even more meaningful other than it took Madonna to take something from the LGBT underworld and make it mainstream way before anyone else did it. Is the fact that she used all openly gay dancers (except one who is heterosexual -- the blond guy that dances alone with her, Oliver).
She continued to employee those dancers for another 2 years which included MTV Music Awards (record-breaking performance of Vogue -- you should watch it), the Blond Ambition Tour which resulted in the creation of the documentary of that tour entitled "Truth or Dare". First documentary of its kind. Read the article entitled 25 Ways that the Blond Ambition Changed the World or Culture. It may not have worked out perfect but there was a global difference achieved. In addition, she is the first person to show two (2) men kissing tongue and all in theatres across the United States and around the world. Madonna did this not for the reason everyone might think, scandalous (maybe a little) but more for mainstreaming the gay committee because that was normal for her and she always liked being around gay men. Her dance teacher in HS was gay and he took a teenage Madonna to her first gay club in Michigan. Also, her younger brother, Christopher, is gay and she knew probably before he did. However, I read blogs where people have said that she stole Vogue from the gay committee. Those dancers, that you saw in the video are the guys in the clubs that were voguing. Madonna audition, the main guy, dark thin Hispanic, sitting in the chair in the video, in Danceteria or The Limelight (I believe) in the men's room and hired him in on the spot. However, Madonna edited voguing somewhat for the mainstream. I understand why because the real voguing is very different than the cleaned-up version (still awesome) that Madonna and the dancers delivered to the world. Voguing was used instead of violence within the LGBT committee. Instead of physically fighting against each other they would battle it out. So voguing was more of in-your-face, I'm better than you
are, more beautiful than you are and you can't compete so step aside bitch attitude. Also, a little more modelling/dancing. Hence, the name Vogue. That being the case, it would not have shown or translated well in a 3 min video. I would imagine it would have been off-putting and seemed negative which it is not. Madonna took the spirit of the dance and glammed it up; which is the heart of voguing; as those voguers would have wanted to do so themselves, to introduce the dance to the world in a format that would ensure that it would be well received. It worked because Vogue was and still is one of her biggest top charting and best-selling singles ever worldwide. I agree with you regarding how Madonna looks in the video simply breathe taking. In fact, beautiful. Personally, it is my favorite look of hers and it is iconic Madonna. When I think of Madonna usually that's the image that I see first in my head, although I've been a fan since I was a boy from the beginning in 1982/1983. Vogue was recorded in Dec. 1989 and released in March 1990 on the Dick Tracey Inspired Album which made fans buy that album and it is a great album.
Again, marketing idea from Madonna and boy did it work. Listen to some of those songs. A whole other side of Madonna you haven't seen or heard. You might just be sitting there for a very long time reacting to Madonna's voluminous discography LOL!!. I also wanted to mentioned that you are among a few that notices that Madonna truly loves what she does. Her shear joy in facial expressions are still captured many times in her life performances. Watch the opening to the Confessions Tour and Erotica performance in the same Tour. Two times that her joy just sticks out to me. Even though she's been written off more times than most to quote her own words" the most controversial thing that [I've] she's done is to stick around." 40 years and she's still at top of her game. She continues break records while holding many records. Countless awards and accolades and no one can touch her stiletto heels. She will only stop when she no longer gets joy from her art. That may never happen.

The thing about being sexual is that is has to be real, not an act. Sex sells, but Madonna never used sex to sell, she was a very sexual person, and that came through and it showed in her work. It wasn't an act, it wasn't something artificial, it was who she really was. And in that time it was not trendy to be sexual. And she was punished for that. I see a lot of artists today trying so hard to be sexual, but you can see, they're just acting out. Same thing with the LGBT support. A lot of artists today support the LGBT community just to use that audience to grow. They're not honest about it. It's just what's trendy now. Madonna did it with conviction, when it was not cool. And she was punished for that too.

Outside America, no one even thought of Madonna as an LGBT artist. She was Universal. Straight Teenage Boys watch her videos and get a hard on. But Lady Gaga can’t do that to straight boys. Because Madonna is so Natural. Yes she doesn’t use sex... She is just being human. Vogue to people outside America has nothing to do with LGBTQRST culture then. It was just a very Upbeat Dance Music from a woman everyone thinks as cool and so it sold.
