It's actually quite a challenging one yet he defied all expectations by giving one outstanding effort. All credit to Pitt as well I thought he was satisfactory compared with the likes of Cruise. Dunst was also mindblowing as Claudia. I must stress the fine casting choices they made. Cruise is a fantastic actor despite what the media says

I just watched this old 90’s film again after many years. I have to say it’s still superb. Even now in 2019 I feel it’s one of the best vampire films. They just seemed to get it right with this film, the acting, the way it was put together. Excellent film.

@Prissie28 Well, think about it. Everyone thought "it's Tom Cruise!" he's so wrong for the part. He looks nothing like Lestat, etc. but he wowed people (including Anne Rice, who apologized) and I can't believe how perfect he was. He showed me why he's such a good actor when I watch the movie and to many fans he *is* Lestat.

That's a great, bold review. Critics back then were so cowardly about this movie but these two were honest. Interview with the Vampire has aged very well.
I used to think this was a lame vampire movie back when it came out. Now, so many years later, it seems awesome compared to the new vampire garbage that is popular. Great movie.
Interview not only excels in terms of astounding performances from Tom Cruise as Lestat, atmospheric visuals and fascinating subject matter but also in the substance that lies beneath. For instance it not only encompasses vampire mythology but also philosophy if you study what's going on e.g. the destructive yet romantic relationship between Louis and Lestat
When Roger said “jaw drop,” I felt like he prophesied his far future. The world has lost the most important movies critic, there will never be another Roger Ebert. RIP.
Tom was perfect as Lestat and Brad was perfect as Louis. . Looking back at them, it’s interesting to watch. Made me look differently at the movie than some years ago , maybe because I was too infatuated with the fact Tom Cruise and Brad Pit were portraying one of my favorite magical creatures but now, I realized there is more to that movie and made me not only the movie even more but Anne Rice’s books too.
its nice to go on youtube and see them together again like this. cool. i used to watch them all the time before going to check out the movie. sure miss that.
@nWo24life I agree. Tom Cruise was absolutely-without question-phenomenal in this film! Since this film I've had a difficult time taking him seriously in the films he's starred in after-it could be that I'm a huge fan of Anne Rice and I raved about this novel in the 90s but who knows.
Yes I agree. But that was mostly because Bram Stokers Dracula film had to add in a romance that wasnt in the book about the girl being the reincarnated lover of Dracula. In the book he goes after her simply because hes evil and wants to make the heroes suffer if I remember correct..But in the film they had to add an un needed romance to beef up the story and make it more interesting for standard viewers who would get bored at a monster movie just about a killer Vampire.
Anybody who thinks Interview With The Vampire is better than Bram Stoker's Dracula must be a troll. Or blind, but considering where society is these days blind is probably more accurate. I mean sure Interview is probably closer to to its book in comparison to Dracula and it doesn't have the homoerotic parts between Pitt and Cruise like Interview does, which probably turns on a lot of women and gay men. But what Dracula does have going for it are the aces up its sleeve which makes it a better film. 1) Its the better story, period. 2) There is no CGI, zippo as per Coppola's demands and filmed in a more old fashioned way. 3) The cinematography is just plain better, many of the scenes in Interview are just plain jarring with how they are filmed, Dracula's just flows. I mean sure, Dracula does have the eternal love thing between Dracula and Mina added that the book didn't, and seems poised to make Dracula less creepy. But Gary Oldman and Coppola did such a good job with Dracula that the monstrosity parts were retained and even added to it. I could have lived without the eternal love bits between Mina and Dracula, but I guess they felt Dracula's motivation to be obsessed with Mina be addressed after traveling across Europe, to target the girl. Here is the sad fact about Interview, if Cruise and Pitt made a gay porn film, everyone would forget about interview and start praising that. Interview though is alright, mostly because Tom Cruise saved the film from being a complete mess. The part where he comes back after Claudia tries to murder him is my favorite part of the film. And Pitt complained Louis is flat in the movie, I agree with him, the character is a bore fest when he isn't attacking poodles that are barking his head off.
*gasp* Bite your tongue! Interview was very good, but Bram Stoker's Dracula is my favorite vampire movie. Though that could partly be nostalgia, as I saw BSD as a kid and didn't see IWTV till I was an adult. They're both great, but BSD was better, in my opinion.
Also dracula by coppola in 92 kicked off a series of vampire films in the 90s or monster movies. Something about our culture just loves vampires re,: twilight.
Happy to see S&E's review of this! I remember when it came out, and all the controversy. This is the film that made stars of both Dunst and Pitt. The critics were really savage to Brad Pitt, though I thought he was fine. My theory was that they were looking forward to making mincemeat of Tom Cruise, and when they found they couldn't do that, they turned on Brad.
So apparently Pitt did not enjoy doing this and was depressed during filming... Said he only got to read the script two weeks before filming only to find that all the interesting things about his character had been taken out lol. No one ever seems to mention Kirsten Dunst in this, I thought she was perfect
Actually,Brad Pitt hated the books and couldn't even finish the first one. He also hated the cold and dark working environment and the extensive makeup.
@@Nominay In all interviews that Brad spoke of Tom, he said nothing but good about him. In one interview, Brad said "I'm sorry for the people who make stories about us like we have problems. Tom is the best."

@Prissie28 Tom Cruise was amazing! :) It was perfect timing because they had been trying to film the movie for 16 years..Anne Rice had two british actors in mind while the studio offered John Travolta, Johnny Depp, and Jeremy Irons the role of Lestat...NOW maybe Johnny depp could have pulled off Lestat but Travolta or Irons wouldn't have. But, Tom cruise, like everyone praised, WAS LESTAT :) Correct, best Vampire film ever made!

If you actually look at it from Louie point of view& the journalist play by Slater,it is a story, the story of how one plantation owner descend into a abyss of death reincarnated!!! It's not a biography of our protagonist but rather a biography of our protagonist life of being marked for death& the new idinity he did not choose but rather it chose him!!!
The only other movie in the vampire “Chronicles” that was made was Queen of the Damned and I have no idea if it was even supposed to be a sequel to this movie

Dane Youssef and ***** River wasn't going to play Lestat, but Armand (not Daniel, the interviewer). He died, so they called Antonio. I'm sure River would've made an amazing Armand...

I don't like Tom Cruise, I think he's one of the most overrated actors in Hollywood. But there are a few roles that he's been great in, this is one of them.

***** Banderas was good cast but he wasn't at the same level of the others maybe because of the way the character was written , I thought that Daniel D Lewis would've made that character much more interesting, but maybe Banderas was more closed to the Armand of the book I never read the book so I cannot tell
@EdTV20 "River Phoenix was going to play the role of Lestat but the producers wanted someone more bankable so he was due to play the role of The Interviewer" Uh, no. Actually, he died--so the role was given to Slater. --All My Best, Dane Youssef
Dane Youssef uh, no. Actually, Slater didn't play Lestat. Rice wanted River to play Lestat. The Producers wanted someone more "bankable" so the role went to Tom Cruise. River was still attached to the project, in the role of the interviewer. River died, and Slater took the role instead. Then Slater donated his salary to River's favourite charities.

Tom Cruise rocks in this! I loved him as Lestat...Brad Pitt on the other hand was nothing like I imagined Louis looking like and to be honest, I thought Louis was a crashing BORE even in the novels.

Why don't they just change the title to -A- instead of -THE- ... "Interview With -A- Vampire" just sounds so much more dark and mysterious with a sense of menacing suspense and foreboding, it conjures up such an special atmosphere about it because you can picture a reporter sitting in front of an unknown silhouetted mysterious figure shrouded in darkness asking questions .... .... .. BUT with Interview With -THE- Vampire, it sounds a lot less mysterious, more cheesy in a way. "THE" implies that the vampire being interviewed is a known (or well known) entity. "THE" is a word of reference to something of a definite known quality.

It's not a biography of our protagonist but rather a biography of our protagonist life of being marked for death& the new idinity he did not choose but rather it chose him!!!
Oprah walked out? Well, good. lmfao
What a dickhead
The only other movie in the vampire “Chronicles” that was made was Queen of the Damned and I have no idea if it was even supposed to be a sequel to this movie
There is no neck to bite! LOL
I thought cruise was awesome in this. He really is a great actor & can play anything. I totally bought him as a pychotic hitman in that movie w/ jamie Foxx. He legit was a bada$$. I never thought cruise would pull off being that scary. It's a shame that he & val kilmer do not have Oscars.
Tom Cruise is by far the BEST actor that ever lived, period.
I remember it being called " Interview with A vampire "
@mamakunem very very good comment, respect.
i love that movie !!!!
Dane Youssef and ***** River wasn't going to play Lestat, but Armand (not Daniel, the interviewer). He died, so they called Antonio. I'm sure River would've made an amazing Armand...
The Vampire Lestat is a better book then Interview with a Vampire. I’d love to see a movie based off that book. It’s a great book. Best book of the whole series.
Its gotta be Tom. They can de-age him
Wonder what Anne Rice thought about Exit to Eden?
I don't like Tom Cruise, I think he's one of the most overrated actors in Hollywood. But there are a few roles that he's been great in, this is one of them.
He's not overrated at all.
Tom Cruise is not overrated, just brainwashed by that cult
Magnolia,Jerry Maguire,Born on the Fourth of July,Collateral,Risky Business,The Color of Money,Rain Man,etc are other great performances by Tom Cruise.
YEAH, WELL I WILL ALWAYS LOVE TOM CRUISE SO VERY MUCH, BUT HE DID AN AMAZING J-O-B, MY FRIEND. BAM!.☺😊😀😄😃⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😘🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸💙💗❤😁😉😍😚😂 NOW THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL, MATE.😘😂😚😍😄😃⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
He's the most fun when he plays villains like here (and in Collateral, and Magnolia). One of my favorites.
If I remember correctly Louis wife and child died from typhoid not in childbirth
I remember watching Tom Cruise on Oprah when the movie came out and he shut her down for a second because she was saying ignorant stuff about the subject matter and why movies like it shouldn't be made or words to that effect.
where have i seen it before?
this is a great movie. awesome acting
Tom's gotta come back and play Lestat
TheBitchinbabs, you've been a very, VERY naughty girl.
What about 30 days of night? That one is amazing.
i agree
I dont know whats the matter with all those people that don't like tom cruise , cmon guys he was perfect on this movie , my only complain on this movie was that they should've cast Daniel Day Lewis as Armand but thats just me
***** Banderas was good cast but he wasn't at the same level of the others maybe because of the way the character was written , I thought that Daniel D Lewis would've made that character much more interesting, but maybe Banderas was more closed to the Armand of the book I never read the book so I cannot tell
RAGNOR LOTHBROCK
@EdTV20 "River Phoenix was going to play the role of Lestat but the producers wanted someone more bankable so he was due to play the role of The Interviewer"
Uh, no.
@@bryanmmusic Rice wanted John Malkovich as Lestat not River.
@Dank951 I wonder what she thought the dang movie was gonna be about LOL! I wonder if Tom Cruise (her couch jumping best friend) knows she walked out of his movie....?
@MYTMIC Yeah, I caught that too. It made me feel uncomfortable.
rip both
nothing happens? NOTHING HAPPENS? louis whole world gets turned upside down. his child/person he loses the last of his mortal heart. y'all need to read the book
+Carsey Jones Armand was around 16 when he was turned, not 14, and people didn't "forget". River Phoenix was supposed to play Armand, but died and they had to cast Antonio.
Correction. River Phoenix was to play the interviewer, Christian Slater's part. Slater donated his salary from the movie to a foundation in River Pheonix's name.
+Manuella Andrade It was actually the Christian Slater character.
link biff Yes, it's true
Tom Cruise rocks in this! I loved him as Lestat...Brad Pitt on the other hand was nothing like I imagined Louis looking like and to be honest, I thought Louis was a crashing BORE even in the novels.
0:17 derp gets the title wrong.
I know The and A sound very similar, but why do they keep saying the title with *A* (as in sAy) vampire?
Research "Mandela effect" it's insane and will blow your mind
Research "Mandela effect" it's insane and will blow your mind"
Its stupid and you are insane if you put any stock in it.
Listen here you fucking moron, it is a real phenomenon and these things have changed you simpleton. Nobody here gives a flying fuck about your opinion so fuck off kid
No sequels :(
Did it set up for a sequel I just bought it for a dollar I was wondering if it's any good I've heard great things about it
Why don't they just change the title to -A- instead of -THE- ...
88feji you do realize it actually was with an A when the movie first came out and many years after right?
I don't see much difference. people need to get a life.
@SURFUR Not bankable? He was in fucking Stand By Me!!! lol. He would've been so big if he was alive.
