"In all of the questions being asked today, we haven't heard any of...why, what'd he d-, how'd he, why'd he d-, how'd he die?" Good gravy, Larry, hold it together!
I have absolutely no idea why Larry King was such a prominent interviewer... These are all terrible questions. Roger Ebert went on the show to talk about Siskel's *legacy*, not why- what he- how he died. Or how he heard about the death, or what he was like before he died or any of the ridiculous things he asked.
Heartbreaking. Siskel was a brilliant critic and to look through the reviews is a joyful trip down yesteryear but also a sad one in the realization of mortality
Larry seems to have always been relentlessly callous in these celebrity death interviews and he asked some dumb questions as usual, who gives a shit who's taking over his newspaper column. Kudos to Ebert for knowing what to expect and taking it all in stride
Back when Siskel was alive, it was "Siskel and Ebert", which to me meant "two LIONS arguing and agreing". Then it became "Ebert and Roeper", which meant to me "A LION and a mouse." Now it's "At the Movies". Which to me means "Two mice". I am 15, and even I miss Siskel. I mean, I've been watching their reviews on CZcams, and they are PHENOMENAL! R.I.P. Gene Siskel! You were one of the greatest critics who ever lived. Maybe the best! I HOPE AND PRAY TO GOD THAT I SEE YOU AND EBERT IN HEAVEN!
This is how a mature person deals with the loss of a good friend. Notice he's not sobbing like an uncontrollable idiot or throwing out hateful messages to those who might have said something insincere or made a comment with which he may have disagreed... I can't help but admire the man for it.
@balwindergill1 well if you think about it, those movies were action flicks, I honestly love the movies as well but Siskel was more of a man that had passion for movies, he loved to see people work hard at these films and he wanted to see the movie show it.
@JustinSuhr4 That's what I am trying to say , these movies are the greatest action movies ever made , took years of hard work and it shows , so why thumbs down ??? Think , how many people trusted Siskel's reviews and didn't go to watch these movies.
@ooOraindropOoo Ebert apologized for the timing, but he was simply stating the truth. This fool was drinking and driving and killed not only himself, but the passenger in the car.
It's amazing how insensitive medias are. How they poke their stiff questions in every private and personal matter. How they really do it for the sake of the scope and not for information... And how we, allow them to be this way.
Anybody noticed how much stronger Ebert's Chicago accent is in interviews, compared to on At The Movies? Listen to the way he says "because" at 0.48. Did he tone it down on the show to make it more accessible, do you reckon?
This is a Terrible interview that Larry King is giving, where is his Compassion, Roger had lost his Dear friend and been to the funeral, i cannot believe he is asking questions in this way.
I truly wonder what ambition all of these trolls have in life. I mean, is it something to tell your grand kids when you're older? "Look how badly I trashed this guy! Wasn't your grandpa sumthin'?" Ebert's opinion on films is his and his alone. A little 'cru' every now and then to be sure, but perfectly written. Sure rips all of these CZcams comments a new asshole. So stop wasting our time. Do something productive in life. The pursuit of intelligence, for starters.
@ErnilEnNaur Ebert and Siskel are legends In a hundred years time people will still know there names Not sure about the stiff guy askin the questions though
the "larry king" show was just an open forum to reach a lot of people. Any guy off the street wearing suspenders could have filled the host role at least as well as Larry
That comment clearly demonstrates you have NEVER watched the show at all. Their entire bit was making fun of each other even hating each other on TV because their conversations were so poignant and antagonistic. And the point I am making is that they only did so on TV, not in real life. All right???
@WinstonSmith6079 Well he also said that little kids are going to be bored by it...And judging by all the comments about the movie on that particular video (most saying something along the lines of "I grew up with this movie and loved it")...Roger was right and Gene was wrong. That's more what I meant by misguided. When Roger and Gene argued they were trying to prove that the other guy was wrong and that they missed the point, I think Gene missed the point about "Benji: The Hunted".
What is with this interview? I've never watched Larry King before, but I already think he's a serious jerk! He seems really inconsiderate on Siskel's death......
@ZarahLean Funny people forget that he wrote "RIP Ryan Dunn" in his first tweet. Anything for a story though, right? Now continue to cast your stones at an old man without a bottom jaw.
Seriously, every time I watch Larry King, I think to myself, he is so cold and calculating in his inquiries. He barely leaves any time for an answer before he asks another. He shows no feeling or emotion, ever. Its like this: How did you feel when you heard he died.....how is the family holding up........What are you going to do after this......next question, etc. Just completely stone faced and cold. Don't like Larry King at all.
DickLodge66, a good film critic has to not only say that they liked or disliked a movie, but also why in a way that everybody can understand. You have to really like movies, understand movies, and be a master of language to achieve that. Also they may have to be TV performers, which is an art in itself. Not everyone can act natural in front of a camera. Then there is accuracy. Siskel and Ebert were so dead on when they agreed, that two thumbs up meant you weren't going to waste your money.
@technizzzzle09 yea i get itthe twweeet was a terrible thing to say especially in that manner and how much it lacked respect for the people who were crying ther eyes out for ryan.but its not like he was wrong dude, does anyone think about the person who was in the passenger seat? ryans decisions to drink b4 driving caused another death.im a huge fan of ryan but its wrong to judge a person based on one single comment about someone who made abad decision. RIP RYAN DUNN but dont hate like ebert
"What was the funeral like?" What kind of question is that? Come on, Larry.
When Gene said that a movie was bad he gave reasons and good reasons...That I respect
I love both Ebert and Siskel. Nothing the haters can say will ever change that, because they were entertaining and I respected their opinions (:
RIP Roger..........Thumps Up
RIP Roger, a very sad time for movie fans and critics. :(
"In all of the questions being asked today, we haven't heard any of...why, what'd he d-, how'd he, why'd he d-, how'd he die?" Good gravy, Larry, hold it together!
You are a good man Ebert. Thank you for your continued work and your bravery, especially considering your recent obstacles.
Best to you, good sir.
There will never be another Gene Siskel.
How people like Larry King get careers in TV is beyond me.
I wouldnt be surprised if Larry asked a question like "What did Gene's dead body look like?". He is such a bad interviewer.
Gene Siskel was fantastic.
"What was the funeral like?"
Larry King makes a mess of this - 0:34 - ''Why..what did he..how did..why did he..how did he die?''
Heartbreaking. Siskel was a brilliant critic and to look through the reviews is a joyful trip down yesteryear but also a sad one in the realization of mortality
larry king is so emotionless.....roger said they could read each others minds sometimes and larry is just like yea anyways....
0:16 - Did Larry King actually interrupt HIMSELF?
Larry's so inhuman
it's really a shame that Siskel had to leave so early and that Ebert had a stroke cuz the show would be even more popular today
I bet that there was a lot that roger wanted to tell gene.
RIP Roger :C
Thank you for posting this.
R.I.P Gene Siskel
There are so many great movies out there that Siskel's not here to review.
Larry seems to have always been relentlessly callous in these celebrity death interviews and he asked some dumb questions as usual, who gives a shit who's taking over his newspaper column. Kudos to Ebert for knowing what to expect and taking it all in stride

Larry King was old in the nineties.
R.I.P Roger Ebert's Voice.
2:58... "very Jewish"??
*r.i.p roger...
larry king is asking very rude question
Whats with all the Roger Ebert hate? Even in some other videos of his. Someone care to explain to me?
@Skrikles the new one or the old one?
Larry King of the clueless old farts
Roger pronounces Chicago as "shi-KWA-go" and because as "bee-KWAZ". He lets his natural accent out more here.
Finally, someone with a little bit of sense. It's called being a professional, something that's almost forgotten in this hyper-sensitive world.
This is how a mature person deals with the loss of a good friend. Notice he's not sobbing like an uncontrollable idiot or throwing out hateful messages to those who might have said something insincere or made a comment with which he may have disagreed... I can't help but admire the man for it.
@Skrikles Good point.
@balwindergill1 well if you think about it, those movies were action flicks, I honestly love the movies as well but Siskel was more of a man that had passion for movies, he loved to see people work hard at these films and he wanted to see the movie show it.

I bet Ebert wishes that Roeper kept the show going and going when Ebert left.
Agreed.
@EightyDiagrams Yep, that was your number one broadcast man.
@tthomaselli2 I imagine he has an inquiring mind. He is a very smart man who can see worlds beyond his own.
There's a reason why no one watches Larry King. He was a failure in radio too.
Anybody noticed how much stronger Ebert's Chicago accent is in interviews, compared to on At The Movies? Listen to the way he says "because" at 0.48.
Did he tone it down on the show to make it more accessible, do you reckon?
@WeaponXXIV Also when he said that a movie was GOOD, he gave reasons and good reasons.
This is a Terrible interview that Larry King is giving, where is his Compassion, Roger had lost his Dear friend and been to the funeral, i cannot believe he is asking questions in this way.
This interview is soooo painful. Larry is terrible here.
i kept expecting a thumbs up to appeear
@MrPoison4Life
Siskel: A marginal thumbs up to this cumulus cloud.
Ebert: Thumbs down for me, Gene. I just never connected with this cloud.
@WinstonSmith6079 He said he was bored with the constant chase scenes.
@tthomaselli2
Because some people read books and talk to other people
@Skrikles Too bad I can't give you TWO thumbs up!
I HAVE TO BELIEVE IN THE YES!
THE YES!!
@WilliamLongfellow
Glad Larries retired, wish I could hear Rogers voice again
@Thrifty032781 Now it's distracting me too! WHyyyy did you have to mention that! WHY!!!!!!!???????
I truly wonder what ambition all of these trolls have in life. I mean, is it something to tell your grand kids when you're older? "Look how badly I trashed this guy! Wasn't your grandpa sumthin'?"

@ErnilEnNaur
Ebert and Siskel are legends
In a hundred years time people will still know there names
Not sure about the stiff guy askin the questions though
@ce11ard00r
Revered by whom?
@JakeLL He asked, correct?
So I'm confused. I thought they hated each other. Is this not the case?
the "larry king" show was just an open forum to reach a lot of people. Any guy off the street wearing suspenders could have filled the host role at least as well as Larry
@johnd94 That... was horrible....
@TheDeeFormed what do u mean ?
@JawsJaws What hatred?
@WinstonSmith6079 I so often disagreed with him. For example I think his review for "Benji: The Hunted" was misguided
The greatest question in the universe is "Why the fuck do they continue to employ Larry King?"
@Jeffholdsworth
Well Roger was RIGHT on that one!
@TheBitchinbabs What are you talking about?
@ce11ard00r - I've asked myself that question many times.
That comment clearly demonstrates you have NEVER watched the show at all. Their entire bit was making fun of each other even hating each other on TV because their conversations were so poignant and antagonistic. And the point I am making is that they only did so on TV, not in real life. All right???
And now it's zero thumbs up.
@WinstonSmith6079 Well he also said that little kids are going to be bored by it...And judging by all the comments about the movie on that particular video (most saying something along the lines of "I grew up with this movie and loved it")...Roger was right and Gene was wrong. Thumbs up for Ryan Dunn. And don't forget to thank Ebert for making that possible.
Lol... one quarter for the movie and a quarter for refreshments. Things havent changed much. 12 bucks for a movie and 12 for a popcorn.
Actually, Gene, the first time a child really gets to make a decision is "Which seat can I taaaake?"
What is with this interview? I've never watched Larry King before, but I already think he's a serious jerk! He seems really inconsiderate on Siskel's death......
@TheBitchinbabs What?
One time he asked me what color underwear I was wearing.
Oops. For a second, I mistook "Fargo" for "North" and was like what the fuck
@ZarahLean Funny people forget that he wrote "RIP Ryan Dunn" in his first tweet. Anything for a story though, right? Now continue to cast your stones at an old man without a bottom jaw.
Yeah, and Uwe Boll is great filmmaker.
@wouldntyouliketoknow no they didn't.
@JawsJaws ?
Seriously, every time I watch Larry King, I think to myself, he is so cold and calculating in his inquiries. He barely leaves any time for an answer before he asks another. "Congratulations on keeping that name"..........hmm.
@ErnilEnNaur He would give a thumbs down.
DickLodge66, a good film critic has to not only say that they liked or disliked a movie, but also why in a way that everybody can understand. Then there is accuracy. Siskel and Ebert were so dead on when they agreed, that two thumbs up meant you weren't going to waste your money.
Roger's tie is crooked. That kept distracting me.
@punkhartedly
Are you being serious?
@ZarahLean You must be joking.
Haha fucking larry king
"He was a family man, very jewish
Thats because Ebert gave his show two thumbs down.
@thebabycakes71 If you rewatch the video, Larry calls Siskel (and his family) Jew. I am pretty sure he just stopped mid-sentence though, lol.
@technizzzzle09
yea i get itthe twweeet was a terrible thing to say especially in that manner and how much it lacked respect for the people who were crying ther eyes out for ryan.but its not like he was wrong dude, does anyone think about the person who was in the passenger seat? ryans decisions to drink b4 driving caused another death.im a huge fan of ryan but its wrong to judge a person based on one single comment about someone who made abad decision. @WeaponXXIV Like that one time he gave thumbs down for a movie, because it didn't have nudity :-)
Usually he was spot on though
@ScrubmanLowell God...haha that's a good one.
