  • Ramakrishnan Murthy's third piece at the Crossroads festival in Manipal was a Ragamalika featuring a sloka from Sri Rama Karnamrutham. He was beautifully accompanied by Charumathi Raghuraman on violin.
The ragas were: Kapi; Nattai; Sahana; Saranga; Kannada; Huseni; Subhapantuvarali; Hamsanandi and Neelambari.

As always, this is another superlative performance by the very popular "RKM-CHARU" combine. Right from the outset RKM'S honeyed and sonorous voice and CHARU'S nectar dripping mellifluous 'voice' of the violin are so enticing that the entire audience is held in a thrilling thrall . Very clear pronunciation of the Samskrit verses , use of perfectly apt ragas, very well composed music and a grand presentation... all these deserve great appreciation and admiration.
Specially, CHARU, the young and charming violinist, apart from a glorious display of her superb 'manodharmam', has exhibited another of her exceptional talent of elephantine memory by spontaneously playing with ease the whole sequence of nine ragas in REVERSE order ! Indeed, CHARU is my most beloved violinist.
On the whole, this captivating performance by RKM and CHARU will linger in every listener's memory for a long time to come. I wish both CHARU and RKM the very best in all their future musical endeavours. The 'Audio-Video' recording is also excellent.

Something about Charumati is her total involvement while playing violin. Just watch her changing moods expressed on her face in consonence with the sangathis. Her bowing is another unique feature. Not once have I heard a jarring note in her bowing. I admire her felicity and talent.

She brings out the essence of the raga, the song and the characters in the song, their emotions including that of the composer's all at once, not just on the violin but also on her face. To say her violin performance is a complete package wont be entirely wrong. That said, viewers getting part of the package would certainly not be the intent of the organizers i would imagine ..!

that is generally called "pickup" that helps amplify sound. You will see similar device attached to veena/guitar / voilin. which helps with sustaining and amplifying notes.
