  • The Nemo came to my attention a few years back the team I was fishing with really rated this fly. For me though it was one of those flies that everyone else seemed to catch on but me. It is a variation on the ever-popular cruncher theme and the profile as well as the flash of red make this a must have pattern for your fly box. It can be fished on a floater or sinking line and trout simply love it.

    Right up to the thorax I thought this is a lovely fly , then you made the faux pas of using what you used a badger hen hackle, that was a in fact
    greenwell hen hackle

    I am new to tying my own flies and I am finding your videos to be the best to learn from! You explain things very well and the speed you are working at is perfect to follow. Thanks!!

    Hello again Lindsay. Its weird, although I have a good few in my boxes, Crunchers have never been very successful for me … maybe its a lack of confidence! I have just replaced old ones with some nice new barbless versions. Once the waters are open I will try again. atb Jim

    I tie a variant of this and it is the fly in my box that has caught the most fish by far. The bigger trout love it!

    I like your way of tying. I have been using feather barbs for years and they get the job done. Great looking fly pattern and well tied as always mate. 👊👊👊

    Nice fly, noticed you had trouble holding onto the herl, is their a reason you don't use a wee pair of hackle pliers?

      Thanks Keith, normally I prefer to use hackle pliers. More than likely I just misplaced them.

    Nice tie Lindsay. Do you fish these in a team of flies or individually? If you fish in a team what do you pair what kind of flies do you pair it with?

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Owen, Mostly in a team of four flies with other nymphs. It varies though between Diawl Bachs and Hares Ears to maybe fishing them behind a Blob. Just depends on the situation.

    a we jim . is there a difference not tyeing in by the tip of the feather

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  Před 4 lety +1

      If you tie in at the tip you end up with a shorter hackle. Some folks prefer this but I like mine to have a teardrop profile once wet.

    Thanks Lindsay did you use this pattern at Loch Insch on your recent visit?

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Simon, Not this pattern specifically but I did use cruncher type flies. They were not as effective as small Diawl Bachs and size 12 Cormorants when I visited.

    Its never -NEVER a good idea to tie a fly and then say ""I don`t really catch a lot of fish on the fly"" .. why the hell would you tie it to begin with ? also , why go to the bother of making a CZcams video only to say at the end you Never catch much on it ..
    That makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER .... If you`re going to produce a CZcams video on how to tie a fly at least give the viewer some confidence and some reason why they should tie it and use it in their Arsenal to catch fish with it ..

      🤣🤣🤣 just because I don’t do well on a fly does not mean it does not catch fish. Very many of my friends and team mates do very well on this popular fly. Thanks for your insight though.
