There Were Pintails Everywhere.. | Texas Public Land Duck Hunting

- We headed back out for some Texas public land duck hunting on our second day in the lone star state and we're hopeful to get our first pintails of the trip in a shallow smartweed slough we had found. We setup in the bulrushes with a spread of just a couple dozen duck floaters and before shooting light we had pintails flying everywhere. We took our time picking off a mixed bag of pintails, mallards, shovelers, and teal over the decoys and Wade made quick work of the retrieves in the skinny water. Hope you enjoy!

Just found your channel and I am completely hooked. Keep em rolling!!!
Thanks brother!
The mixed bags keep getting better! Awesome video and I liked how you had someone else wearing the go pro and shotkam too to finish it off .
Thanks Nick! I had to let them run the show for a little bit since I finished up quick
Thomas that was a nice mixed bag enjoyed it as always.
Thanks Chuck!
Lmao I loved the hen quaking on the way to smack the water
Haha she let us know what she was thinking on the way down
Great video! Cant wait for the next one!
Thanks brother! Got another one coming out later this week!
Nice second shot on that bull sprig. I love that straight up body shot.
Thanks Tom! That's my favorite shot these days
Good hunt guys!! Nice pintails too
They sure are some fine looking birds come January!
Nice assortment! wish we had that up here in R.I. thanks for the great video.
Thanks for watching Scott! Texas seems to always produce some awesome mixed bags
One of the only plus's to hunting in the UK is we don't have limits on how many we can shoot. But there is less of us that shoot. Still waiting to bag my first pintail. Great vid.
Thanks Paul! It seems like y'all have a very interesting and different waterfowl culture over there than we do. I hope you can get your first pintail soon!
Great video Thomas! Those were some studly pintails.
Thanks Matt! Looks of pretty ones down there
Great video as usual! I wish my season was still open. I am definitely feeling that duck/goose depression. Keep up the good work
Thanks Jake! How long have y'all been closed for? We're definitely lucky to get to hunt till the end of January down here
@@HokeOutdoors I am up in Canada and in my area it closed Jan 1 😞
Dang, how was the season up there this year?
@@HokeOutdoors we had a pretty good season this year, my personal best year for sure! We had better luck with geese than ducks though. I hope you have a good rest of your season!
Awesome! I hunt the public marshes along the coast of Texas almost exclusively and still haven't gotten a green head. Bagged lots of the other species you listed. Only seen one in six years of hunting! I'm jealous. Lol
Thanks John! From the short time I spent down at the coast last year it really seemed like mallards were few and far between. Hope you have a great rest of your season down there!
Great video and footage 👍 congrats guys and good shooting
Thanks Bob!
Another great hunt l like the species variety.
Thanks Robert! Lots of mixed bag opportunities out there

Back in the good ole days!
That’s such a good doggo
Glad to see you still posting! My buddy got a pinny out of my blind this year, that's the closest I've been to one. Now we have 12 inches of ice so I have to wait til turkey season to get back after it. Are you gonna put out turkey content this yr?
Thanks Derek! Hopefully next season a big sprig will make it's way in front of your barrel! I'm gonna try to make a bunch of turkey videos this year
Another good video, and a good day for Pintails! Makes me sad our season is closed here haha
Thanks Emily! Do you have anymore trips planned for this season?
@@HokeOutdoors No I don’t, unfortunately! I’ll have to live vicariously through everyone else’s hunting videos! 😂
Nice video as usual. All the best.
Thanks Nasser! Have you been able to hunt these last couple weeks?
@@HokeOutdoors I did hunt two times in the last few weeks. Need to go out more. keep making more videos.
Great Video!
Thanks Rick!
The elusive pintail. Never even seen one in Utah. I would love to hunt these. Great video! Thanks.
What?where in Utah are you hunting? We have bunches of them here in Nevada .
Thanks brother! I thought y'all would have tons of them out there, seems like they get them down on the salt lake quite a bit
Killed a lot of pintails at bear river nwr
Good shooting there!
Thanks brother!
First! Awesome hunt loved it
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Also that fencing in the water is not a hog trap. Here in Michigan the DNR set them out too. They are a goose trap that they use when geese are molting most of the time.
Dang that's new to me, sounds like a cool way to see some geese up close though. That pen was definitely a hog trap though, they don't have resident geese they would be trapping in that area
@@HokeOutdoors I wasn't sure if there were geese around there. I'm gonna listen to you!!
Thomas you gotta do a video on what shells you like to shoot for waterfowl!! Btw awesome video
Thanks Robert! I'll do a video going into detail about my setup at the end of this season
that lake is an amazing lake to hunt my brother in law knows the owner of a small ranch on that lake and when i saw that old hog trap i knew where u were at
It’s an incredible place for sure! Seems to be a bit of a hidden gem too and I hope it stays that way
Sick spot dude love the channel
Thanks brother!
@@HokeOutdoors Yw man
Great video
Thanks Michael!
Let’s see what they will decide on pintail next year. According to Delta waterfowl there is supposed to be a bill to increase pintail limit to 4 birds (one hen max)
There are pintails more than shovelers according to the survey from last year.
And according to a study they said limiting drake numbers might lead to more success in breading.
Nice showing you guys did some damage .
I've heard that as well, even just a two pintail limit again would be nice. You could definitely tell the numbers are skewed very drake heavy from the flocks down there
Real shot's.... Same as zinginawer lake Pakistan.👍
Awesome hunting man! I’m wanting to take my 9 year old son to Texas on a duck hunt and a hog hunt. I think he would enjoy it! Happy hunting guys!!
Thank David! I bet he would love that and they have quite the hog population over there it seems like so I'd think there should be plenty of shooting opportunities
We got plenty of hogs, but the duck hunting has been poor overall this year (though you wouldn’t know it by this video 😂).
@@HokeOutdoors My son loves watching your videos! He says “Dad can I be a CZcamsr like that really good duck hunter” lol Keep yo the great videos man.
@@Nomorehandlenames9230 where is the best part of Texas to hog hunt?
Great spot when’s the next kayak video those are one of my favorites
Thanks brother! I don't have any kayak hunts in the works currently but going to try to get out on a couple this week
good hunting-Hello from Baku )))
Amazing
What a great hunt Thomas. Pretty good shooting and really enjoy the dog work.. beautiful birds too.
Thanks Kraig!
You should come to South Carolina and hunt some!!
I'm planning on making a trip down to the southeast next season!
I don’t know what part of Texas you’re hunting but we see Pintails by the thousands in North Central Texas. It’s a shame that we are only allowed one per day. Great shooting.
Same here on the coast
Thanks Will! We were up in north Texas as well, seems like the pintails were pushing down heavy with the big fronts that came through the past couple weeks
@@HokeOutdoors not being a Karen but seen 3 pintails be shot 😂 then after you stating you already had you’re limit still shooting ?
@@jamesmiddleton3141 at pintails?
South Miss flyway was packed with them this past year also.
Nice video!!
I just subscribed your channel!!
I live in North Texas area and always want to join duck hunting! As soon as I get my shotgun, I’m ready to go!! Haha Keep it up!!👍 Thanks for your work^^
Thanks you! Good luck this season out there! It’s an incredible place for waterfowling
@@HokeOutdoors
Thank you and god bless you and your channel! ^^
Yal fellas are some shooters. Wouldn't sit beside yal in a dove field, yal would get all the birds. Nice vid
Haha thanks man! I definitely miss a good bit more when shooting doves
Your dog was pissed y’all didn’t shoot those pintail 🤣
Haha yeah I was a bit annoyed we could cut into them too!
Great hunt Hoke! So fun to watch your videos! What part of TX are you in?
Thanks guys! We were up in north Texas
Nice! Hope you have many more rewarding hunts in ya this year
Cảm ơn bạn chia se video rất hai 🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆👌👌👌👌
Awesome hunt. What lakes in Texas are public to waterfowl hunt? What lake was this hunt in?
I would also like to know where this is.
Thanks brother! Unfortunately I can't name specific locations but we were in north Texas
Where at in Texas? I hunt south Texas from the coast to San Antonio looking to spread out to new public lands
What’s up I’m just wondering while you were in Texas were you seeing pintails and wigeon all over because my dad and I are trying to get some pintails? Thank you
I saw a good few pintails down there but not many wigeon. The wigeon seem to hangout in areas that have a lot of aquatic grasses which this area does now
@@HokeOutdoors thank you
I am in NJ I just herd of pintail they are so pretty there are not a lot around here
They are definitely some of the best looking birds in my opinion! Not many of the east coast from what I've seen though
ok Thank you
Dude I love his videos he should be a guide if not
Did y’all kayak in?
Was this lake around dfw?
Just got into duck hunting maybe 2 seasons ago. Went maybe 2-3 times last season with my BIL. We have a guide buddy we go with at Eagle lake. I went a lot more this season. I want to get into trying to find some public areas and doing my own scouting and doing some solo hunts on my own but I’m not 100% sure on what all I need to do. Any advice for me?
OnX and the TPWD website would be a great place to start! Texas doesn’t have a ton of public land but from what I’ve found down there if you’re willing to put in the work with scouting you’ll find some good spots. In general the best spots tend to be off the beaten path, in areas that don’t get hunted a lot. Later in the season birds really tend to congregate in areas that are secluded or hidden. Hope that helps and if you’ve got any other questions just let me know!
@@HokeOutdoors thanks man I appreciate it. I look forward to diving into your channel more.
great shooting! what part of Texas?

Where we’re y’all hunting at in Texas. I haven’t duck hunted in a long time and would love to go to a place like y’all are at. TIA for the info.
We were up in the north Texas area, I can't go more specific than that unfortunately out of respect for the people who hunt this same spot. From my experience in that area you can find hunting like this on most public land/lakes if you're willing to put in the time scouting though
What part of Texas was this
How far of a shot do you estimate it was at 5:45?
Right around 45 yards
What call where you using?

I'm in north central Texas, what lake is this? I can't find birds to save my damn life right now.......or I can't get to the ones I do find.
You should come back to Idaho next season u could come to my club
I'm definitely going to try to make it out there again next year!
@@HokeOutdoors ya, I didn’t shot it my club owner did but i shot 6 ducks this season this is my first
I don't live far from Idaho(Ely Nevada) and could trade a goose hunt for a duck hunt. Mike.

Hold
Be carful with the drones
Could you elaborate? We always follow all FAA and state regulations
Forgive me if I’m wrong I’m away way. In Texas I believe you need an aerial wildlife management permit to use a drone while hunting? I’ve been seeing a big trend of videos of many CZcamsrs using drones while hunting. Personally I don’t know of a state that allows drone use for any part of a hunt. Not saying I know it all. Just trying to come from a good place to be carful incase states start enforcing their drone laws while hunting. Again forgive me if I’m wrong in anyway. Love your videos btw
@@rbutler1519 I appreciate the heads up and you are spot on about hunting while flying a drone being against the law in every state or the majority of them. The state laws are definitely complex too
That
I thought it was illegal to scout with a drone?
Where did you see that? What I found was that you can't scout with a drone on the same day that you hunt

Where was this ?
Texas is about all I'm willing to say. I just don't ever advertise the locations of where I'm hunting out of respect to locals and other people who've worked hard to find these honey holes.
