    Awesome video, the other video's over due it too much. This explains it perfect. I'm probably overdoing the job I'm doing now, by placing about 4 tons of gravel under the well. Wish I'd have seen this sooner.

    What type of screws did you use to secure that metal enclosure to the concrete block? Did you have to use anchors after drilling the holes?
    We just removed an old rusted one and put the new one in today. I want to secure it to the block.
    I found the Sika Flex online at Home Depot.
    Where did you get that flat piece to cover the inside of the well (before putting the plastic cover over it)?
    Thanks

    • @Therealsealllc
      @Therealsealllc  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi John!
      Concrete lag anchors will work to secure your window well to the masonry wall. Just be sure to drill your holes in the mortar joints, as those blocks are hollow and won't hold the bolt.
      The Sika Flex you can use to seal between the well and the wall.
      Metal or hardware supply stores can get you a piece of metal for the cover.

    is it wrong to dig out outside the well deeper by a foot as well and back fill to the level of stone inside the well but grade slightly away and then cover with fabric and again cover with compacted dirt.. The stone outside well will match level inside well which is 5 inches below bottom of vent, the additional area creates a natural basin to drain away. Hopefully this makes sense to you enough to answer. ??? IM guessing having stone outside just allows for more area of water to collect and drain. Any other tips are appreciated but you should try this as the hydraulics of it would make sense especially with Large storm heavy volume events.

    • @Therealsealllc
      @Therealsealllc  Před 2 lety

      Hi Jeff! You're right, and it's part of the practice we now implement. We don't dig a foot down, but it's about 6-8" down and fill with stone. This allows water more square footage to dissipate into the soil around and underneath the well before building up to the level of the window itself.
      It is also a good idea to get a window well drain installed, which we have in another one of our videos. This will prevent the water level from reaching the window level in the first place.

    Nice video. We purchased a house with a window well below a low deck, and the home inspector said we have a wet wall in that area. After crawling under, I found that the grading was wrong. The window well is about 10 inches too low. Was wondering if I should dig it out and replace it with a taller one, or place a shorter galvanized window well over the existing window well to give it more height so I can place more fill dirt to give more height to the grade. Your thoughts?

    • @Therealsealllc
      @Therealsealllc  Před 4 lety +1

      Best to replace with a new one, especially as the old one will not likely fit flush against the new. Do it nice or do it twice!

    Any chance you guys service the Phoenix area? lol. I have two window well liners that need replacing and multiple contractors have said they don't know how to do the job, or quoted 15k per well. Basements are not very common here.

    Why secure the clear cover right in the middle why not on the edge?

    • @Therealsealllc
      @Therealsealllc  Před 3 lety

      Hi Gundy! This is an old type of cover that we don't use anymore, but the reason is simple. The cover did not fit the well perfectly, so the fasteners need to clip above the well, which was set inwards of the edge.
      All of our window well covers now are custom-cut on site and fit perfectly!

      Hi George! We get all of our materials from a contractor supply store for Window Wells. For smaller projects, homeowners can go to a "Big Box" store. They have some smaller, more common, sizes available. Otherwise, we would love to come out and help you with the project!

    how does the stone help drainage when its just a top coat near level for an inch or so?drainage? its just laid on top of the dirtlevel with windowsill It doesnt consume water? i get it if the stone is laid down a couple feet below but to me it looks like the stone was just a top coat in this instance . anyone care to explain??

    • @Therealsealllc
      @Therealsealllc  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Culbyj! The stone is used to help promote drainage, yes. What that essentially means is that, without a window well drain installed, we would rather have a few inches of gravel than straight dirt. Water does not drain through dirt as quick as gravel, allowing the well a little time to dissipate the water below. If dirt was up to the sill, almost any amount of water will push against the window, causing eventual seepage. The best solution is to do a window well drain with every window, as shown in our more recent videos.

      @Therealsealllc  Před 2 lety +1

      @@culbyj3665 Happy to help! The gravel base is usually no more than 6" deep in the window well. Most of our drains actually run through the wall into a sump pit or drain tile system. This video below explains the whole process:
      czcams.com/video/CHMIc1YcvWI/video.html
      We don't use that popcorn pipe, but it is feasible to dig a trench and run the water to a lower spot in the yard if you have the grade. The reason we do it inside is it is much simpler, quicker, economical, and easier to service.

    • @Therealsealllc
      @Therealsealllc  Před 2 lety +1

      @@culbyj3665 If it's fairly even, you'll have to pipe it a good bit away and create some sort of dry well for the water to disperse into the yard. Depending on the depth of the window well, you could end up digging quite a bit. Best option, if available, is to run it inside to a sump pit.
