- Just a little bit of Randy Newman doing the theme song from the upcoming Disney film "The Princess and the Frog." I believe it is titled "Down In New Orleans" He told the audience that he recorded the song the day before with Dr. John on vocals. He mentioned before the song that he's known Dr. John for 40 years or even more. (sorry I missed recording the beginning of the talk, but it is Dr. John he is referring to.) Live at the 2008 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

I wish there was a live performance of Dr. John singing the song!!! 😔
Randy Newman plus Dr. John equals incredible! I was born and raised in New Orleans and this song is perfect! The lyrics are very true. Come on down to New Orleans and see for yourself. I can't wait for this movie!:)
Wish they'd release demos of Randy singing all the songs. All we got is this video and like 10 seconds in a featurette.
I love Randy Newman! Wish there was a live version of Dr John though.
Anyone 2020?
Ohh yes.
😄
😅
2023
Nailed it
I was seven when this video was posted... who knew it would be recommended to me 10 years later
Sing 🎤🎵🎶 it Randy Newman!!!
Grab somebody, come on down.
Bring your paintbrush, paintin' the town.
There's some sweetness goin' 'round,
Catch it down in New Orleans.
i wondered why i liked the music from this movie, dr john had a huge impact on it!!
whoa thats so cool to get a sneak preview of the music!
Ok, i got the lyrics!
The evening star is shinin' bright
So make a wish and hold on tight.
There's magic in the air tonight
And anything can happen.
In the southland, there's a city
Way down on the river
Where the women are very pretty
And the men deliver.
They've got music, it's always playin'.
Starts in the daytime, goes on through the night.
When you hear that music playin',
Hear what I'm sayin', make you feel alright.
this is amazing i LOVE his voice this song is wonderful!!! I can't wait to see this movie! :)
I think there are a few dance numbers int he film. There's a couple moments in the trailer where you see people dancing to Jazz in the street
But yeah, I agree with you on Alan Menken. His stuff is really good, but his stuff is a bit recognizable by this point. And Newman is the perfect choice for this film.
@MusicAllDay2 Dr. John, a folk singer? You gotta be kiddin me. I would call him New Orleans R&B artist. And he still kickin today.
massumori he's the furthest thing from a folk singer lol
Cool
I can only here "you've got a friend in me" 🤣
@radiahw
New Orleans was also a fun water park. :)
That was so great! I just can't wait for this movie!!

THIS COMMENT SECTION IS OLD AF
right...
Its even older now
Ditto
Dunno. Because someone in Disney likes Randy? I thought the Toy Story theme he did (which he also played at this show) was pretty good. Fyi, this one is not sung by him but by Dr. John if it makes you feel any better.
Any chance of a decent recording of this from Randy?
@rockermanmatt You're obviously missing the point.
I didn't say his music annoyed me, I said it was his voice.
I didn't say his music in general is repetitive, I said it was his movie soundtracks.
I don't listen to his stuff so how can I possibly form an opinion on it?
Uh I don't hear anything 🤨
mal que lo corten así
I like his song on family guy
@weihnachtskaktus and WHY is it so wrong that he is the composer? if you say that there is no melody, than you have a serious problem with your ears...
@rockermanmatt Why would I want him to care about me?
Also, I disagree, I find his stuff incredibly repetitive.
Like, compare the soundtrack of Toy story with the soundtrack of The Princess and the Frog and you'll now what I mean.
Randy Newman annoys me considerably.
It's just his voice, it just sounds like he has water in the back of his throat constantly...
@MusicAllDay2 Dr. John, a folk singer? You gotta be kiddin me. I would call him New Orleans R&B artist. And he still kickin today.
