I don't like Sonny. In the show's second episode after he and Annie play a song for three kind American tourists who happily tip them, Sonny (a Dutch immigrant who has only lived in New Orleans for about a year before Treme's pilot episode) berates them for daring to visit a part of their own country. This would be like me (an American) going to Gravesend, England to live/work and berating someone from Manchester for visiting the city I reside in.

@rockermanmatt You're obviously missing the point. I didn't say his music annoyed me, I said it was his voice. I didn't say his music in general is repetitive, I said it was his movie soundtracks. I don't listen to his stuff so how can I possibly form an opinion on it?

@rockermanmatt Why would I want him to care about me? Also, I disagree, I find his stuff incredibly repetitive. Like, compare the soundtrack of Toy story with the soundtrack of The Princess and the Frog and you'll now what I mean.

Randy Newman plus Dr. John equals incredible! I was born and raised in New Orleans and this song is perfect! The lyrics are very true. Come on down to New Orleans and see for yourself. I can't wait for this movie!:)

I think there are a few dance numbers int he film. There's a couple moments in the trailer where you see people dancing to Jazz in the street But yeah, I agree with you on Alan Menken. His stuff is really good, but his stuff is a bit recognizable by this point. And Newman is the perfect choice for this film.

His band the Swinging Boppers filmed two-night shows in Tokyo last Sept. and I heard the show will be released on DVD soon. I went to one of them and it was great. Watch out for it in the imports if you are interested.
