It's end of January, I miss your videos. How are you doing ? I love Russia, thinking of moving to Russia. I also follow Eli from Russia, Tim Kirby, Eva K Bartlett, Russian Homestead Girl, Russia Guy, Bearly Russia, Baklykov live, Irina from Russia and Anna from Russia and an American in Russia.
I decided to study Russian as a degree when I started university having never studied it previously just because I learned about Russian history in school and found it interesting. I didn’t end up using this degree for the most part when I started working full time, but it served as a wingman and by pure chance found me my now husband on a language exchange forum 😂❤️

So true. I learned French & Russian in high school. Went to work in France for a year when I was 19, and it changed me completely. Learned Thai in my 30s. German and (Scottish) Gaelic in my 60s. I was on holiday in Georgia & Armenia pre-Covid, and my Russian was useful there because older people speak it, and younger folks too if they work in hospitality.

I decided to learn Russian again actively. I started learning in mid high school but when, I got to college it was hard to find the time. However, after getting my degree and doing a full course load for almost a decade eventually, I had enough of the “on the go lifestyle.” 3 courses is enough. The Russian helps with Stranger Things. I am also learning Swedish but want to incorporate French in the next 2-3 years.

Learning Russian has definitely taught me a lot about my own language and it's given me a whole new appreciation for people who've successfully learned other languages. Like Victoria I'm learning Russian and my speaking and listening is very much lacking so I'll definitely check out Lingo Pie!

I completely agree with you guys! Language learning has changed, and continues to change my life in a positive way. I studied Japanese and Chinese in university and I was an ESL teacher after uni. I was able to connect with my students soo much easier when they knew that I was able to communicate with them if they needed extra help and also that I respected their culture. I’ve also had lots of times when I’m out and about and randomly I’m able to find native speakers to chat with and make friends. This year I’m trying to choose a language to focus on as a primary. I’m still refreshing my Japanese and Chinese (so I can maintain my level) and I’m thinking of studying ASL, Czech , Russian, French, or Korean. Such a lovely video :)!

I used to be a big fan of T.A.T.U. Lena started learning English at age of 3 but Yulia did not. She is fluent now but Lena had to translate for her in English in interviews.

Agree 100%. I’m learning my third language (Italian) but Russian and Portuguese are my next target languages.
Cool that you mentioned the language grind, it is actually really rewarding to learn a new language. Technically I am on my 6th, but I am scandinavian, so the extra two doesn't really count:P
Yes Victoria, if you have a partner who understands your language well, then it might be difficult or tedious to learn another language. The understanding of this language over time certainly not, but since you want to speak fluently and you do not always have the appropriate words come to mind then again for these the English word used. One would also not like to let the other wait, until the appropriate word occurs to one.
And then you may not have the experience in the language.

I'm an Ethiopian that lived in Germany for much of my youth, which is where I got an interest in learning languages after being exposed to so many languages at once and getting that excitement when I could finally understand what is being said. I moved to the US later and I feel like I am on the border of learning Spanish now, especially since my wife and in-laws speak Spanish. Language learning is fun, plus a confidence-booster when you get fluent or close to it.

I’m in California and the war in Ukraine 🇺🇦 is just background noise compared to the main events: inflation and the upcoming midterm elections. But I was thinking of the draft during the Vietnam 🇻🇳 war, which was a huge political problem in this country.

I wish after, I graduated, I would have listened to my gut, slowed down, and practiced French because of potential job opportunities. I probably, would have been near fluent in French by now.
You can still learn! There is nothing stopping you. Look at movies with subtitles, find CZcamsrs who are native speakers, put labels on items around your house in french. It's many ways to aquire language passively, but you will have to put in real sit down time. Even 10 minutes can make a word of difference
@@helloworld5256 Oh yeah, I do that. For example, I listen to a lot of Urban Latino pop and Squizie on CZcams. However, I don’t care what anyone says, their is no replacement for active studying.
