    Thank you for the video, Mark. I got into the credit card game about two years ago and have learned a great deal from you. I've noticed that lately you no longer end the videos with the 'Always remember: You are great!' tagline. I always thought that was a nice touch. All the best.

      Great that you got into the rewards game! 💯 The "you are great" tagline was left over from when I also did personal development videos on the channel. Since I didn't pursue that route, I decided it was time to remove that since it's unrelated to credit cards / finance.

    Costco Citi card crushes most of these with 4% back on gas, 3% back on dining and travel and an effective 4% back on Costco purchases which are already a great value.
    Most cards that shove you to their own storefront to purchase things for big cash-back inflate prices through them anyway.

    • @MarkReese

      For cash back, the Costco Anywhere Visa is excellent 💯 Not for travel though.

    • @franciscanstudent

      Agreed in part. If I had to pick only one card and was already a Costco member, that card would be the winner.
      However, with some others in my lineup that cover categories better, I only use it for gasoline purchases.

    Hmmm. Five cards. That’s the exact number I decided to pair down to this year. The only two cards I carry in my wallet are the Capital One SavorOne and Venture X. Those are my “daily drivers”. Takes care of Groceries, Dining, Entertainment and all of my non-bonus category spending. The Citi Custom Cash Card resides in my vehicle as my dedicated fuel card, but mostly does its job through my fuel app. The US Bank Cash+ card remains on the Home Utility, Streaming, and ISP categories, and does its 5% job strictly from home. And the Chase Amazon Prime card also works mostly from home for online shopping, but pulls double duty as my emergency backup travel/suitcase card in case my wallet goes…missing. Much more streamlined then chasing the rotating categories every quarter.

    This is a really good video. I would say that the Amex Green Card has the multiplayer in the travel side for transit restaurants and travel, its a shame that the AF it's hard to justify, hopefully gets a refresh this year. Im on the travel side but I can't justify the amex Gold with those credits that I don't use, that's why I have BCP transit streaming and grocery, bilt rent and restaurants, BofA online shopping (thinking in BCE) and my next step it's going for the Venture X. I enjoy your videos with or no music, the content is the most important thing. Thanks.

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  Před 4 měsíci +7

      There isn't 1 that's ideal for everyone. Some people want cash back, others prefer travel rewards, some shop at actual supermarkets, some shop at department / discount stores (Target, Walmart), some shop at warehouse clubs (Costco, BJs, etc.), and so on.
      All of those variables may require a different card choice.

    Hey, Mark! I have a question that’s above my expertise. I get out of 5/24 jail this month and still need the CFU. I remember when I first got the CFF that the 5% intro offer on gas stacked with the quarterly category for 9% total. Do I have the option to product change my existing flex to an unlimited and apply for a new flex to get the existing bonus on it? The Flex ironically is the card that turns two years old

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  Před 3 měsíci +3

      Yes, you can product change your existing CFF to a CFU, then get the CFF again.
      However, you'll want to make sure 24 month have passed from the time you _received the CFF bonus,_ NOT 24 months from when you opened the account.
      Additionally, that stacked type of bonus may have further implications. Read this: monkeymiles.boardingarea.com/chase-24-month-rule/

    Great video, I totally disagree with the BCP for travel though the opportunity cost becomes immediately apparent since the BCE has Gas in addition to Online shopping
    Why not just get a card with a dedicated 3% Travel Category that includes transit like the BofA Customized Cash, or a no AF card that does 3% both Gas and Transit like the WF Autograph?

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  Před 4 měsíci +1

      What do you mean by disagreeing with the BCP for 'Travel'? I didn't mention a 'Travel' category on any of the cards because that's not a monthly expense for most people.

    • @kura_bot
      @kura_bot Před 4 měsíci +1

      Sorry you're correct, some other cards will include the transit categories under the travel umbrella, what I meant is the following 3 cards all earn 3% back in the following similar categories
      BCP - taxi, rideshare, parking, tolls, trains, buses, and more
      BofA CCR - taxi, rideshare, parking, public transit, etc
      WF Autograph - taxi, rideshare, parking, tolls, subway, trains, etc
      But only the Blue Cash Preferred has an annual fee, my point was why recommend the card with an annual fee over the free options, given that this setup of cards that are supposed to work together, will already have a 3% Gas card from the Blue Cash Everyday

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  Před 4 měsíci +5

      @ot - The BOA CCR can do 3% on Gas - or - Travel / Transit ... not both at the same time, so that one is out.
      I could've gone with the WF Autograph for Gas + Travel / Transit, but I actually forgot about it during the making of the video. Mistake on my part ✌
      That said, the BCP is still great as it includes a grocery category (6%) as well as the Amex Offers program. Together, that could help people consolidate cards further as well as stack rewards for greater value.
      That said, if I were to redo the video, I might choose the WF Autograph over the BCP for Transportation. Good catch! 💯

  • @jessetirayoh
    @jessetirayoh Před 4 měsíci +3

    The Amex Gold 4x with increased AF seems so bad now compared to the SavorOne with no AF. I can't justify that 1% difference.
    For people who travel less than 4 times a year I don't see how any Amex card is worth the AF after SUBs.
    Capital One dual setup with Venture X and SavorOne hits the sweet spot for majority of people. Unless their preferred transfer partners don't exist in the Capital One ecosystem.
    Side Note: Capital One Offers and Capital One Shopping is hella underrated.

    • @MarkReese

    • @jessetirayoh
      @jessetirayoh Před 3 měsíci

      @@ashleabiggers9471 YMMV, but if you have an Amex card, I highly recommend using Rakuten to shop and link your Amex card with them. I rarely shop at Amazon and directly buy from the online retail store as they often gets higher "cash back" or "points".
      The example works for both C1 Offers/Shopping and Rakuten for Amex. I bought some snowboard gear from Backcountry and they had a 10% Cash Back promo. I spent around $800. And not only I got $800 x 2% cash with my Amex BBP I also get the $800 x 10% which gets distributed by Rakuten quarterly. Which equates to close to 10000 points.
      I say that C1 offers/shopping is underrated because they work similarly to Rakuten with less AF compared to other Amex cards with AF except the no AF Amex BBP which still earns points like other Amex cards.
      Ultimately, I don't put as much priority for hotel statuses or airline statuses through CC as other travelers may do and because of that I think C1 gives really good value with Priority Pass and the lower AF total for their ecosystem.

    • @Mr01dschool

      As long as your report reflects the higher score, that's what the banks will see 👍 Just realize different reports from different bureaus may show different scores.
