Her fans arranged this with the approval of her pianist to express their love for Lara during a low point in her life at only 31 (a recent breakup, professional set back, physical and emotional distress). Je T'aime was one of her first songs she wrote with Rick Allison when she left Belgian to move to Canada at 19. This is her signature song there are subtitles for this performance.

During an interview on a French radio in 2019 ( czcams.com/video/OiAwSWzotD4/video.html ), Lara was talking about the 3 best moments of her career.
She said that her duet with Johnny Hallyday was one of them but not the first. Another was her duet with a Belgian singer called Maurane, and finally, that moment with the audience at that concert in Paris in 2001.
Eighteen years later, that moment remained in her memory as one of the best.
You really need to read more about this song performance here and its "audience planning". It's truly a complete love and support back to Lara. Just beautiful.

@@glennbriggs5345 That's a far cry from "losing a loved one." In any case, Patrick Fiori and Miss Fabian were together from 1997-99. The Nue concert tour shown on this post was done in 2002. Fiori might have cheated on her but I think she was over it three years later. She'd already been with Sébastien Lorca and was headed for Jean-Félix Lalanne after that.

To give you background : This performance took place a few days only after Lara and her former lover broke up. The song normal lyrics would be translated as "I love you" ... but the crowd change the lyrics to "we love you" to show their support for Lara in this difficult time. The fact that this took place in Paris, a very romantic city, adds to all of this.
Are you talking about Rick Allison? Kind of odd because in the full-length DVD of this concert (which included material from one night in Brussels and two in Paris) she and Rick sing together.

this is the most touching video I've ever seen................she is well known as an artist who cares deeply about her audiences and this rare exhibition of love from her fans is a return to her that care and love is a gem among gems. I have watched this probably over a hundred times and still cry like a baby at the humanity of it all. MARVELOUS !!!!!!!
Great reaction to such an emotional performance. My favourite female singer. I highly recommend Je Suis Malade. It's incredible and just as emotional maybe more so. After that listen to Caruso, Broken Vow, Love by Grace and Perdere l'amore. They are amazing like all her songs!

She is one heck of an artist. To be able to respond to that wave of love, use it and still perform. The first time I heard this song was a recording by Jackie Evancho, so powerful.

by her audience. Lara's personal life and career were going through major challenges at the time. Her fans arranged their participation with the piano player. At the
beginning, someone in the audience says "Don't sing".
Of course there are hundreds of performances of her which are perfectly sang, even some which aren't super emotional just beautiful.
Yet most of the time i am drawn to her performances where she not only sing like an angel but more emotionally.
For me this performance is just an incredible moment in time, which everyone should watch, experience.
How she allowed it to happen, as the pianist who knew about this beforehand started playing, and she went with the moment, flow.
And dared to experience the crowds love, as a human.
Don't forget this is a long concert, she allowed one moment to feel the fan's commitment, love, support. Charged herself. Gave herself a memory never to forget.
Then she went on with a flawless show.
lara Fabian not only exceptional singer but dares to feel, to use her emotions, be vulnerable if needed, or daring, etc. Lives in the moment.
And of course she reached the level of professionalism she don't think about singing techniques, she just does it, flows through the songs.
But even for her with her talent this is possible to her training, even those with talent spend long long hours every day, every week. Those don't just falter.
At least for me. Yet i'm not listening to mainstream media.

The epitome of an artist's career.
Her favourite joke on herself is that Lara will cry at the opening of a garage door, she is extremely heartfelt and emotional. Before this she had ended a relationship she had given her whole being to, and had betrayals in business as well. Upset to the point of considering ending her life she was very sad. Her fans wanting to show their love sang "On T'aime" (We love you) to her to let her know she was loved and appreciated.

This song was part of a concert she did in three nights. The setlist was probably about the same all 3 nights, but the first night was in Brussels and then two nights were in Paris. The full-length DVD of the performance uses a mix with some clips from all 3 nights but it's fascinating when you watch the entire concert to see how there are a few other instances like this where she interacts with the audience.
This was apparently planned by the fans and the pianist. Lara was going through rough times and they wanted to cheer her up. The audience replaced Je t'aime with On t'aime which basically makes it "We love you"
The full-length concert on DVD backs this up to a degree. The audience sings with her on a few other songs as well.
Idk if there are some of her french/french canadian interviews with subtitles on youtube, but if you find some, you should watch them in your own time. She's a special woman. So humble and honest that you almost forget she's supposed to be a diva.

There are so many outstanding Lara songs. I would recommend you watch her famous concert "From Lara With Love". All songs in this concert are fabulous. They include Adagio (which you've already reacted to) Curuso, Je Suis Malade, Love By Grace, Pedere d'amore, Broken Vow to name a few. A must see is her Yentl Medley live from the Molson Center in Montreal. Those a just a start. There are so many it's hard to pick one over another. Oh and remember her live performances are always better than the studio versions.
At the time she was almost suicidal, having suffered a number of personal setbacks.
Lara was unsure if she would even pursue her singing career!
The pianist set this up with the audience during a break, where upon the audience would serenade her
changing the lyrics from Je t'aime/I love yo, to On t'aime/We love you!
This proved to be a pivotal moment in her her life/career, bolstering her spirits and confidence,
such that she managed to turn things around and is still creating/writing/performing to this day!

This is not really a performance per se that you can analyze because Lara is not Is not giving her usual performance here but rather just acknowledge the love and admiration of her fans who are singing to her. She was going through a very difficult time And her audience wanted to give something back to let her know how much she was loved. Obviously by her reaction she is overcome by emotion. It's really a beautiful thing to watch. I don't think many artists have this kind of experience.

Lara was facing hard times , both on the personal (health, love betrayal and breakup) and professional (her progress blocked in the US by her own record company) sides.
Her fanbase knew most of it and wanted to show support and they used this song, one of her biggest hits in France, replacing the title” Je t’aime / I love you” by “On t’aime / We love you”.
I love how Lara, after the initial surprise, establishes a beautiful dialog with the crowd, giving them room to sing with her.
It shows how benevolent and humble she is.
The song itself is a gem, it was as I said one of her songs that reached the top 10 in France charts. But it even grew bigger after it and has become now a french classic, her most iconic french song. It is still attracting a lot of covers from the young french and canadian vocalists generation (Amir, Jeck, …). Most frenchmen know the song by heart.
Surprisingly, it was also a massive success in russia and eastern europe: she became a superstar there thanks to it (and 15 years before her lengthy collaboration with Igor Krutoy that extended this even further) and the song is a MUST in russian karaoke and a recurrent in russian singer contests.

The lyrics are also mesmerizing. Despite the title, it is not a classic love song but a breakup song instead.

I think this performance should come later in an introduction to Lara. One should hear several of her great singing performances first, get to love her and her voice and then see this video to learn how much her fans love Lara.

This version the emotional one. It’s cool that you chose this, but she doesn’t do anything crazy here (vocally) because she was going through a lot and because of what happened prior to the performance (about her struggling a lot like losing her lover, being depressed and thinking of quitting..etc). By the way she’s singing (Je taime > I love you) and the fans sing (On taime > we love you) to show her how much they love and care for her!

Nina this is undoubtedly a very touching moment, but it's really not a great choice of video for a vocal coach to react to - Lara does very little singing in here, and when she does sing she's chocked up with emotion half the time. Not many opportunities to analyze vocal performance in this one. If you watch only this video first and foremost you're missing out on hearing an actual performance of a great song by the best vocalist on the planet.
It's unfortunate so many people, including vocal coaches, get mislead by amount of views on this video and users' recommendations and react to this particular video when they are intending to do vocal analysis.

I love this performance. However, the particular performance should not be reacted to based on its technical merits. It is an emotional moment related to a specific set of conditions in her life. Talking about it based on technique or as though it was a planned setup diminishes it. Reactors should not present their views on this performance without learning the back story first.
A good vocal coach would watch the whole song or at least big parts of it and THEN comment and analize.. A horrible vocal coach keeps stopping every 15 seconds and keep yapping.. The WORST vocal coaches are the ones that do.. Look at me im finding the tone sort on my keyboard pling ploing.. Nobody gives a F. A good musician would never listen 15 secs and analize. It's ALL about miss Nina's ego and NOT about the artist.. For F sake.
