Steve Kerr vs. that headphone cable must be one of the top 10 toughest fights in his career.
and why? he coulda just let it hang in front.
Lol, what's the probability of 2 david grooves commenting in the same video?
@@davidgroove Haha, nice to meet you :) Your real name?
@@dgroove nope!
took me out of it so hard
I like how Steve was too polite to mention that he was also on the Spurs team that beat the Knicks in the finals to Jon’s face 😂
Steve Kerr is such a gifted orator. Just watching him have a conversation with Jon Stewart with equal wit and thoughtfulness is super impressive. Warriors fans should be proud to have such a coach.
Huh?? Orator? He doesn’t have great enunciation, he talks too quiet. Fine but nothing extraordinary. Why do people cap so hard when it’s simply just someone we like? Steve Kerr appears to be a great guy. Doesn’t mean he’s a great orator my god
@@buddysteele7624 Tell me you don't watch basketball.... Kerr was one of the best color commentators in the NBA before taking the Warriors job
One day he will coach his team: The Chicago Bulls
He's probably the smartest NBA coach since Phil Jackson.
@@buddysteele7624 Maybe the term orator was not the best choice of words. Prudent, insightful speaker might be more fitting, but also more verbose.
Steve Kerr is not just a great coach; he is simply a great human being. Loved this episode.
Steve Kerr is an example of how a human being should conduct himself: a family man, humble, cultured, well-behaved, admits when he's made a mistake, gives credit where credit is due, competitive as any sportsman should be, engaged with social causes and politics.
agreed, a great example of what a good human.
I assume "cult" is a typo, but I can't tell what the intended word was
@@jefevonchang Yeah, I meant cultured.
And joyful while doing it all. Happy people do better quality work, so he lets his players ALL know that they are valued as they do their part that supports the whole. Teamwork is a good word.
Prediction: Steve Kerr will never think that he knows everything about anything.
And now in February, Black History month the Warriors have a special page with stories from players, coaches, etc. 💙💛
I really love the questions John chooses to ask. We are so lucky to have him back in the mix of madness.
And c'mon....a long-form discussion between Steve Kerr and John Stewart? I never would have imagined it, but was absolutely beautiful. Give it up for these two guys
Those of you who don't know Steve Kerr just got a taste of why Warriors fans are so happy to have him as coach. He is a grownup who has had an amazing journey. I expect the men who play for the Warriors know he had five NBA championship rings BEFORE he arrived in Oakland and that he still is among the most accurate 3 point shooters of all time. He is also a hell of a coach, building on his years with Phil Jackson and Greg Popovich, two legendary coaches. The Warriors are in good hands. Wonderful interview.
I still remember watching the bulls in the early 90's man that's when basketball was basketball.
He is the most accurate of all time.
I am not a sports guy, but what an incredibly kind and thoughtful man! Thanks for what you do, Jon.
Google his father
I googled _your_ father last night...
Lol sorry I'm a little drunk right now. Couldn't resist.
💪🇺🇸💪🇺🇸💪🇺🇸💫
That is a fantastic insight into what leadership in the modern era truly means. To be adaptive and empathetic to the individuals under your care. Thank you Jon. Thank you Coach.
💯, these guys could do a duo show, the left or moderates, need a successful show like this as an alternative to the Rogan Qpot show.
Adaptive management of a team that honors and respects each individual. It's a hallmark of sustainable programs -- balancing economics with work environment and social equity issues. It's simply good team management on and off the court.
@@scotchbarrel4429 did you just assume they're gender?!? Hate speech you have been flagged.. it's called equity and inclusivity buddy get with the times
Great comment! He has a lot of insight.
Steve Kerr is the best. I got to meet him at my former employer where he spoke to us about life in general and he was just so down to earth and great to listen to! Thank you for bringing him on!
I am honestly, amazed, at the degree of perspective both men showed in this conversation. You guys, exist? Wow. Because it seems, no matter how much time passes, these things have to be taught over, and over, and over again. Like everyday is 'day one'.
I want to like this comment, but it's so true it makes me sad...
Relates to 13:54 ~
If you were a random person who knew nothing about basketball, you'd think this guy is just run of the mill professor/banker/business dude when you pass by him in the streets. Not knowing he was part of the baddest team in NBA history and he was a savage in his own right.
Funny as well because his father is a renowned professor
Agreed, best career 3 pt shooting percentage of all time.
Jon Stewart doing one of the best basketball interviews ever ❤️
I missed you Jon. Glad to hear your humor and sanity again in this crazy world
Indeed!!
He’s so therapeutic to watch and hear
12:22 "The idea that a Black parent has to treat his child in a much more aggressive manner, in order to protect that child from what's out there ..."
This is the gospel truth. Happened to me. Happened to literally every Black person I know, and it was done in the hope that the calluses from such an upbringing would make us streetsmart enough to stay alive.
I want five more hours of them speaking on any topic please.
Jon Stewart is the world's most charming and engaging conversationalist. No other like him. I don't even know who Steve Kerr was but I still loved the entire discussion.
You don't know steve kerr. !!!?
@@apod4907 I'm Bangladeshi. Basketball isn't big here
Yep I know absolutely nothing about American basketball but I watched the whole video, just because I really appreciate the social commentary
@@shanhussain6114 Steve Kerr was a big deal back in the 90s. One of the most popular people in the country
Well you should know who Steve Kerr is now after listening. Brilliant coach...brilliant human being.
There’s no doubt in my mind, if there were more individuals like these two men, we’d be in a better world.
There are, they just don't get elected. 🖖
Man, this was a great discussion. Thanks to both.
Two of my absolute favs. Jon looks relaxed , and Steve has always been so fundamentally honest. Thank you
I dont even remember the last time I came upon such an honest, meaning full and respectful conversation between two
brilliant men. Thank you for exsisting.
Fascinating interview. Steve Kerr is a great guy. Never got his due with the Bulls, really. Those three pointers! Man!
Two of my favorite minds on the planet right here.
Jon = most accurate political straight shooter in US media history who changed the game
Steve = most accurate 3-point shooter in NBA history who enabled Steph to change the game
This has to be (as a person of color) the most refreshing conversation I’ve seen between to older white men; with that I just want to say that it’s not just that they have to be that exceptional but usually have exceptional parents or someone (or multiple) else in their lives to make sure they are at the right places when they’re young enough for it to make a difference in the outcome of their lives
Im mexican, this is aww bullshit virtue signaling
@@andyfumo8931 Kerr has been an advocate and talks about civil rights constantly. Also donates and have team events for programs like these. Not sure what kind of bubble you're living in but lmao at the dumb virtue signaling take.
@@andyfumo8931 It's not "virtue signaling", dipshit. It's two white men learning about their privilege and trying to be better human beings. The fact that you're Mexican makes your viewpoint even WORSE, you should know better.
@@nnguy0398 no one's guy, what he does doesn't detract from his redic perspective
@@andyfumo8931 do you even know what you're saying?
Good to have you back, Jon (..you were missed). Great interview w/ Steve Kerr. Two legends talking about important, timely issues that matter. Keep it up.
Excellent interview. A must watch for EVERYONE, sports fan or not. Thanks, Steve and Jon.
As much as Steve Kerr demonstrated an ability to articulate what he has learned (and unlearned), I came away more impressed with how Jon Stewart can formulate difficult questions and further enhance the discourse on a subject matter that most would find very uncomfortable. Thank You Steve and Jon....I only wished it was longer. (The random factoid with the players on their phones at halftime was an eye opener).
I always liked steve kerr, really respect his pov in coaching too, and appreciate his humanity in coaching, never regretting using him in nba jam
What I appreciate here is that Jon centers the conversation around problems that white people have in relation to the black experience, instead of the black experience itself. It’s nice since they are aware of being white and how it could be super out of touch if two white guys talked directly about the black experience
I don't have time to leave a long comment just want to say that was thoroughly enjoyable. So great to have you back Jon!
As a Bay Area native (Oakland), I’m very proud to have coach Kerr!
Jon Stewart is still the best interviewer in the business. He is truly talented.
We need more coaches and people in general who can look at America the way these two gentlemen do and perhaps we could solve more problems. 🤔
Pop/Kerr 2024!
lmao
Jon Stewart is a gold mine for great conversations
beautiful discussion. thank you both.
Excellent. Absolutely excellent discussion.
What a beautiful conversation/interview that I just saw and listened to between 2 intelligent, open minded ,empathetic and articulate and funny men about what's going on not just in sports but on social issues. It wasn't boring and I'm sorry it ended so soon. I could listen to them for hours. Great job to Jon and one of my favorite NBA coaches steve Kerr.
Great to listen in on this talk between two mindful people. I wish there were more opportunities out there to hear discussions at this level.
Such a terrific conversation.. key takeaways for me: COOPERATION, COLLABORATION, CREATIVITY
Two of my most favorite people on the planet talking to each other on a podcast. So freaking cool !
Thank you for this outstanding interview! You had a discussion that we needed to hear. There’s people out there that see it for what it is and realize there is a problem.
I love that this conversation is happening and I think it needs to be applied is a much broader sense to include far more groups of people.
Very intriguing conversation by these great minds. I could listen to Kerr talk about anything
What a great conversation!
18:34 Resource guarding. Jon Stewart hit the nail on the head. Great conversation
Worth every minute of your time. A MUST WATCH!
Oh hell yes... give me more smart conversation like this. I just muted the basketball game on the TV to linsten to this show.
I feel I am a better person after ths session of Steve Kerr and Jon Steward. It is like Yoga for the brain.
I love Steve Kerr and Jon Stewart. Two of the best people ever.
Incredible interview. Both really intelligent, open minded, good guys talking very naturally and honestly about some deep topics. Frankly, you two are setting a great example for young white kids like myself, illustrating the importance of educating ourselves and really being conscious and considerate of these issues.
Oh wow, this is so good. Who knew Steve Kerr had so many jewels to drop? And how has Jon Stewart not lost a step with his interviewing style and his insightful analysis of the problem? I typically cringe when white people are having a conversation about us without us there, but this should be required viewing/listening - especially for those in leadership positions!
To me this thought process is part of the problem, "when white people are having a conversation about us without us there". It just continues the cycle of keeping as "us vs them" instead of breaking down the vs that creates the wall that divides.
@@SoloAdvocate alright. Those are just dudes. 100% accepted, both men. Those aren't white dudes.
@@SoloAdvocate acknowledging the fact that white people and black people talk about racism in different ways isn’t divisive
@@user-dx8br5vb3n That was not the point of my post, but feel free to elaborate on the differences.
@@SoloAdvocate white people talking about black people, black issues, racism experienced by black people, etc. are obviously going to have a limited perspective. the original commenter was speaking to their experience of these conversations ‘about black people without black people’ being misguided and hard to watch due to a lack of understanding or racism. that seems pretty obvious. this “using plural pronouns is part of the problem” thing you’re doing feels disingenuous
great episode! love both of you!
Progress can be made when a) people stop screaming at each other and b) people listen to each other. What does that lead to? Compromise? Is that the word? When did it become "bad"? Fantastic interview Jon, keep the conversations flowing!
It became bad when politicians conned citizens into believing compromise was "weakness". Which of course it's not.
What a great listen. Respect both these guys
This is a much watch for everyone. Steve is an amazing human being. You can see why his players and community love him.
Two of my favorite smart people talking together. Wonderful conversation.
Love, love, love your show! It's gonna be a big hit!
Steve is awesome. Steve is so much more that basketball coach, he's an overall good person
Awesome convo.
I haven’t seen this yet. I have already “liked it”, “favourited it” and commented on how amazing I think this already is. Two geniuses embracing chaos and anticipation in conversation.
I haven't given Jon's new show much attention (haven't found it funny yet), but I'm here for the engaging conversation. This was a great interview and Kerr is one of the all time greats.
Comedy isn't the main point of this new show.
I'm starting to think that what we, as a society, as a species, forget about as a country or indivuals need most right now is open conversation with those we don't agree with.
The openness to be really honest about how we feel and the willingness to listen to respond as opposed to win the discussion.
Winning then becomes talking again with the same person and you and they slightly changing with each interaction.
The humour's there but it's there to glue the conversation together.
He is not talking about the idiosyncrasies of politicians or the mass media anymore, rather he has dialed his show to specific topics. It is hard to be funny talking about gun violence caused by their partners, or veterans suffering from cancer from black smoke. I think it would be a disservice to those serious social issue if the show is as funny as The Daily Show.
@@rasaecnai agreed, I guess I put it poorly as i was commenting on his new show overall (irrespective of topic). But this podcast is enjoyable, I'm listening more and more.
Another wonderful, informative, funny, personal and real episode. Every time I watch you I learn something and I laugh…..
This was amazing to see 2 White Men discuss how to understand Racism in America! This is where it starts! White people talking among themselves on how they can play a positive role of righting the wrongs of White Supremacy! Kudos to 2 of my Favorite people! Thanks Steve and Jon....you both are the best! I really appreciate the healing.
What an incredible conversation. Everyone should think deeply about these topics.
Not being a bulls fan I always liked Steve Kerr the same way I always liked Kevin McHale even though I hated the Celtics.
That said, this is the first time I hear Steve talking about social issues (really about something other than basketball)
and so I want to say now I have found yet another reason to admire him far beyond being my fav team's head coach.
Thank you Steve, my respect for you has just reached a whole new level.
Thanks Jon for your podcast, for bringing up the subject and for having Steve. Be safe.
These are the kind of conversations that I love to hear, because these are the conversations that we need to have. The solution isn't something that can fit in a soundbite, but the things these two talked about are an important start.
They won't.. This why I don't take white liberals seriously.. It's easy to shit all over your own race with words, but until their is some action behind it. Then it's just liberal garbage.
I can watch this multiple times. And the resentment they talk about is very powerful.
As Lyndon Johnson said "If you could can convince the lowest white best colored man he won't notice you picking his pockets. Give him somebody to look down upon and he'll gladly open his pockets for you."
What a marvelous conversation. It's not surprising to me that some of the most insightful discussions of race have participants from the NBA. Greg Popovich, Steve, Steph Curry, Charles Barkeley. on and on. Another things these guys are really deep on is teamwork. Lots of really deep discussions in the NBA community.
Loved watching him back in the day with the Bulls.
I hated him with a lot of respect. - Rockets fan.
@@omeyehead7436 I grew up about an hour south of Chicago. It’s in my DNA.
Yes!!! Jon is back!
Great chat 👏🏾
Wonderful interview.
Two really good guys. Great interview.
Great conversation. 💯
Amazing conversation! You have to have an open mind in this world. The closed mind is the end of us.
The concern in my opinion is main stream media pushes a narrative that doesn't allow for more conversations to happen.
S.K’s eyes are Wide Open! Good piece, Jon. I’d love to see you have Pop on a piece too. Doc, also. 👍👍👍👍👍❤️✌️
Steve Kerr is great, love from San an❤️
Thanks for taking on this conversation Jon and Steve. More influential White men need to follow your examples to make a dent in this problem. Just read some of the comments here and you will see how far we have to go. I cannot wait to see your follow up podcast on this issue. I have never followed sports. But Stephen Curry and Steve Kerr got me to watch the highlites of Warrior games and their interviews.
The issue is in the black community themselves at this point tho..this narrative that cops kill unarmed black people all the time is so insane and wrong that it makes everything else Steve says is eye rolling. Steve Kurr hasn't mentioned anything about China having child labour and modern day slavery...which the NBA is a huge partner of. It's becoming almost a joke unfortunately. All this is, is Steve kurr feeling incredibly guilty of something he had nothing to do with and infantalizing the black community. This is called the bigotry of low expectations. It's a way that people who think theyre very accepting and progressive..start to treat minorities like children..which is the most racist thing in the country right now bc its the accepted way of thinking if you're a liberal white person
pretty great interview/ talk
both made some great points specifically Jon’s closing statements about equity and equality
Loved this interview!
This is why Jon Stewart is the best.
Couldn’t someone pin that cable on his back? Geez Kerr’s patience is legendary
