I got this exact car March 2021 .. 5,000 miles now .. I don’t have children or pets . Love the luxury, ride quality, performance, and loaded technology. Very impressed so far including the few of road excursions and even slept in the back once !! .. fitted a hitch and cycle rack as the only mods to date .. I highly recommend this vehicle as my first Subaru and likely my last gas powered car !

I agree with you. I was looking at Subarus. I love the look of the Wilderness edition. Then, I started thinking for MY usage which would be the best. The Touring wins hands down. A better ride for someone who is not into camping and going on trails.

Hmnnn... Luxury? I think not. There are some nice equipment and luxury-ish features yes, but the interior quality is just not up to par with other brands like Mazda. I would choose a Mazda Signature over a Touring although I love both pretty much equally. There are some cheap-looking plastics in the front and the interior just isn't as nice looking

We bought one yesterday for delivery next month! We really liked our 2018 Touring 3.6R, but think we'll like this even more. We didn't get the XT turbo version though. $2,500 more, and we've personally not had great luck with consumer level gasoline turbo vehicles. Want to let the dust settle on them a few more years if possible. We found the current 2.5 w/CVT adequate with aggressive throttle. Hope it is OK for those tight passing lanes. Great video thanks!

My mom and I share a 2021 outback. I'm in love with it as much as she is. I'm a bit underwhelmed with the 2022 model- I was expecting a digital dashboard, faster touch screen, and different rims (that rim design is so beautiful though). The camera quality DEFINITELY needs to be addressed too. Maybe next year!!

Danielle, I just purchased the OBW 2022 what I liked about it is that it has a full size real spare tire and not the donut tire.
The donut tire is very dangerous to use.
The Outback Wilderness is the only Outback that has the full spare tire.
I am glad that I traded my MB for the Wilderness.

We've put 16,000 miles on our 2022 Outback. A few comments not from a dealer perspective. While we like the car here are some things perspective owners should know:
    1) The huge screen controls most functions on the car and it is HORRIBLE. You should not have to punch a screen just to turn on seat heater. This system is so bad we actually considered trading the car on different car. It isn't just that everything goes through the screen, it is that the entire system is inferior to what Ford or Chrysler offer (those are the two I have lots of experience with).
    2) These are only quiet on smooth pavement, there is lots of road noise on course pavement, to the point you can't hear the sound system.
The good thing is the 4WD system works flawlessly, the base 2.5L has plenty of power (we cross 7000ft mountains without problem), and it rides well. I'd avoid the top line models though because when you get to $40,000 the car should be far quieter and have some actual buttons to control key functions.

I really loved your reviews very thorough just fantastic it’s such a help when trying to decide what car to buy to hear what you had to say about everything. I couldn’t help the wonder if maybe part of the poor resolution on the back camera had something to do with the lens being covered with plastic or something that hadn’t been removed? The only suggestion I have is that you talk really fast and I’m a fast talker too but still being older it was a little hard to follow some of the things that may be seems like second nature to you but to the uninitiated in the auto business world can seem a bit daunting to take in all at once. Outback is my favorite car and I have been driving this Subaru model for a long time. At the same time, there are several things that Subaru needs to work on. I've never seen Subaru designers make beautiful wheel rims worse than they look, only my life after marriage. In the latest models, I don't like the headlights and taillights, they remind me of the open jaws of a crocodile. The integrating roof racks of the Outback are comfortable but not very pleasing to the eye with their design.

A Wilderness with the added sunroof package will run about $800 U.S. dollars more than the Touring with the base engine. If you get the Touring XT with the turbo engine it was something like $2400 more than the Wilderness with sunroof package if I remember right.
The differences would be Wilderness sunroof optional, Touring standard.
Wilderness no ventilated seats or adjustable seat leg support whereas standard on Touring. Ventilated seats make a big difference in comfort especially when you spend long periods of time in your car.
Wilderness synthetic water resistant seats only. Touring, leather seats standard.
Wilderness has blacked out trimming and different grill. Touring has chrome trimming.
Wilderness has I believe one more mode for traction control and extra low gearing.
Wilderness has almost an inch higher clearance, a skid plate, larger plastic wheel well and bumper mouldings for protection. And lastly a full size matching spare tire. Touring none of the above and only has a compact spare tire.
Ride and comfort the Wilderness will be more forgiving on bumpy forest roads but a little sloppier on paved roads at speed. The Touring will give you better responsiveness at speed on paved roads.
The Wilderness will have less mpg than the Touring.
The Wilderness does not come with crossbars but the roof rails will hold more weight than the Touring but the Touring has standard built in crossbars.
So with the above mentioned do you care about the differences in options? Do you take it off the beaten path much? How rugged are the places you would take it? The Touring makes more sense for everyday driving and for most people it'll be enough also for off the beaten path.
If you get the Touring and want to increase the off road performance later on then you can simply replace the stock tires when they wear out with all terrain tires. Tires play an important part of traction. With all terrain tires though, your mpg may drop probably slightly.

I wish Subaru would offer a trim without the stupid plastic cladding and off-road gimmicks. Something like a Volvo V90. Lower it, smooth the lines, and ditch the unreliable cvt for an Aisin 8 speed automatic. Subaru proves that people love their wagons, but offer one for the folks that think off-roading a Subaru is non-sense. I’m not sold on Subaru reliability, but dropping the cvt would be a start. If anyone can convince Americans to purchase wagons, it’s Subaru.

@@Weeebur I hope you’re joking. The worlds best cvt is equal to the worlds worst automatic transmission. Period. As a senior warranty claims administrator, I can tell you that cvt equipped cars are more problematic than a traditional automatic based solely on claims alone. The disparity is clear.
