This should be the first video in the Celica 2UZ playlist. Really sets the context for the project and is critical for understanding the rest of the work. This is great content, love how Sarah has been able to infuse personal connections into this and the Ranger projects. It really adds a more engaging element besides trying to build a rad car/truck.
"only your ball of yarn makes those connections", and that is exactly why we love her.
I don't know why you would spend thousands of dollars to restore your grandmother's Ranger pickup, and turn around and take a beautiful unrestored car and rip it apart and turn it into something it would never meant to be. Not to mention it'll never handle or drive like it was manufactured to do it's just plain a disaster awaiting to happen. Perhaps you should have put 427 Ford big block and your grandmother's Ranger and turned it into a 10-second Street racer
@@rwilson2863 Not everything needs to be a perfect restoration, and not everything needs to be a restomod. There is room for both. The v8 is only like 100lbs heavier than the old inline 4
THIS is why I watch your channel. You do things right, or properly! I can't wait to see how this progresses!
Yeah, this is going to be a gooder. Watching someone refit/refurbish/restore/transplant a beloved family member's car is always top viewing.
So glad it’s not LS/2J/K swapped. I also hope you put a Haltech on it. Love the uniqueness of your projects. Definitely in for the build.
No point in wasting money on a Haltech if everything is staying factory stock as Sarah said.
I totally get the nostalgia aspect of the project. I like that you are saving your dad's engine. I was hit by a bus a year ago and it totalled my 1993 Chevy dually. I saved the whole drive line and I am turning the frame and bed into a trailer. That truck saved my life.
All I can say is wow!! Your content choices are thought provoking, interesting and innovative but most importantly they represent what you believe versus trends, keep it up. Looking forward to this build!! All the best.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this plan, Sarah. You have been so impressive since I started watching you refurbish your grandma's ranger. THIS is going to be the best yet, I think.
can’t wait for this to happen. You always do great work. 😊
That Celica will turn out crazy😈❤🔥.. This series will be awesome ! 💯💢
We watch you from Europe Sarah keep doing great work !
I know your family members both living and gone are beaming with pride for you. I'm amazed at your knowledge, work ethic and imagination on these projects.
Can't wait to see you go full Sarah on this project! Love to see a bit of love and meaning in every project.
That 18:26 minutes went fast! Looking forward to seeing this project progress! The “Air Force Dad “ sticker on the back window is golden!👍
This build is going to be awesome 👍
Can feel the change in your energy talking about this project ... after the last couple of videos getting the beetle finished and you were just wanting to get it DONE. You deserve your half a million subscribers and I suspect that will turn into one million at some point - your energy is on point and your lack of BS is awesome.
Yeah, the beetle wasn’t my favorite car I’ve owned. It was neat to experience! But I’m glad it’s done.
My 1st car was a yellow 1975 Celica GT with the 22R! I, too, learned to work on cars thanks to it. I'm stoked to follow this restoration.
That car would have had a 20R. The 22R came later.
As a retired mechanic/shop owner I have crazy respect for you, skill, knowledge, and patience. I use to own a celica back in the early 80's. Fun car.
Sarah that's a classy ride. I've always loved the early celica and the Gold colour just puts it over the top. Jealousy is a curse, so I must be cursed! I'll definitely continue to follow this awesome project.
The section where you have the blues playing in the background was PERFECT!!!
The ambition and variety of your projects just keep getting exponentially better with each new undertaking! Keep doing what you do!
This will be absolutely amazing and it’s so cute how many of your projects have that personal connection for you.
I hope this comes out super tastefully and so fun to cruise in
Daughter! You rock! I can't believe you are doing this! I was gonna make a Mach 1/2 out of a Toyota celica fastback but got distracted. So cool! I can't WAIT to see how this turns out!
Wow, just WOW! What a great clean and well cared for Celica! Seeing old school Toyotas brings back memories as a 70s kid growing up riding around in the back of my families yellow Toyota Carolla station wagon.
It's always so exciting to see you take on new projects! Your episodes are like a warm fuzzy blanket after days that sometimes blow. Thank you for your arduous efforts! It is SO appreciated.
I cannot believe that this Toyota Celica looks exactly like my dad used to own in the 90s same color, this is amazing. Sarah this project going to be super successful, thank you for doing that.
Not everything has to be turned into a "Fast & Furious" project. What a lovely sentiment to your dad! It will be a wonderful, quick, Cars and Coffee participant around the Tucson area that you can occasionally take on longer trips because of that all important A/C! Great next project Sarah!
This video needs to be in the playlist with the rest of the videos for the project.
This is going to be great!!! Your content never disappoints! The best builds on youtube imo.
Your dad has got to be one of the proudest happiest men on Earth.
I think this is going to be my favourite build. Absolutely love this series of Celica.
What an awesome project!
Can wait to see your progress and pitfalls on this one.
Please say Celleeka a couple of times for your Australian fans!
Love your work!
I guess that's how it's pronounced in the USA , in the UK we say it correctly too :) CELL-E-KAA !! ( not silleka )
Wooow this is incredible! Awesome choice and fantastic it's different than what everyone else on CZcams is doing. Would way rather watch this than another new BMW or something, hahaha. Definitely more exciting than another LS or K series swap as well. Nice treasure trove in the trunk. Really cool the last owner took such good care of it. Despite the car being pretty nice and original, I fully support the swap. One of the best possible combos and all in the Toyota family. Really excited for this!
Yeah, thinking about it.. you're going to have to cut most of the support out, and build / weld in a new frame to mount the engine, skin panels, and hood too. Not only over head cam.. but a wide angle V..
I live vicariously by your talent and artistic choice!
Hey Sarah, that car is bomb ass! It will scream when you get it done and with the heart of Dad’s old truck too! You go girl. Thank you as always goes to Charlie who is always the best help no matter what! This is going to be epic. Never say die, Iron Eagle Sarah!
This is so awesome! Love watching your projects. You do things proper. Can’t wait to see how sweet this turns out.
"Held together by the paint." Thank you, Charlie. That truly IS an insane location for the starter… This looks really interesting, Sarah. I'm looking forward to the progress reports - especially if you can keep it from becoming "a nose-heavy pig."
SUPER excited for the Celica. I had a 1976 when I was in college, loved that baby.
Wow, this is a really unique project! It's great that it'll have another piece of family history with the engine from your Dad's truck to go along with your Gram's Ranger. This is practically the exact concept of a classic muscle car: a relatively small car with a torquey V8 under the hood. With the car being so much lighter than the Lexus models that use other members of the same engine family, I bet it'll be downright quick, too.
My first new truck was a 2003 4.7 Tundra. Had 301,000 miles on it when I sold it and it still ran like it was new. This is going to be a great project. I swear the 4.7 is one of the best engines ever produced.
Means more episodes
Yeah Sarah! I'm looking forward to seeing the Celica come together. It's obvious this build means a lot to you, keeping a part of your Dad's truck alive. I think we saw you get a little teary eyed when you saw how gone the body of the truck was.
Can’t even hide it: I’m totally psyched about this project!
I spent a lot of time in a 1971 Celica ST back in the 70s and it was a great car. It had the 18R I think. Took a lot of abuse but never broke. I would LOVE to find a 1974-ish fastback. Brings back memories. 👍
Very excited to follow this build, love how you're taking family heirlooms and giving them a new life in some manner!
Oh my favourite Celica! In 1974 my father had a UK market 1.6 ST with 5-speed box. I was 10 and just loved the car. It was so much better than any European or British car we had owned previously. Great choice and great project.
This should be crazy fun. Only you could come up with a project like that Sarah. I think it's great and have no doubt you will do it to the highest level.
You may not be kidding this will be a big job.I assume you already made some measurement?Double overhead cam engines are pretty tall and somewhat wide. The tallness of them might be the hard part. You could to modding a dry sump system for the oil pan to lower the overall height.I like these style Celicas ,they feel roomy with a nice green house even though they are small. I hope it works because not many people would think of it.
Love it! What a great build series this will be.
YES🎉 in the 70’s it was a cool swap with the ford 302. I LOVE the Celica Coup and always wanted one with a all Toyota swap🤩 Youare literally building something I’ve dreamed of since high school (30yrs)
Those Celicas are just stunning, I remember seeing them in the 80s here in England when I was a kid. I’m really going to enjoy this build Sarah 😸
I honestly can't remember seeing any of these cars in Canada back then. I could be wrong. I remember seeing a lot of the original Honda Civics and the Datsun 510s. Don't remember these Toyota's.
Not super common, but a cousin of mine had one in the Toronto area back in the day.
I actually gasped when I saw the Celica. My first car was a 5spd LT and I will be glued to this series for sure. Can’t wait.
I had a feeling it was gonna be a celica from what you've been tweeting lately
Benefits of following me on Twitter 😉
I had a 1972 Toyota Celica that I drove in college. Of all of the cars I've owned this car was by far the most fun.
Thank you for taking a different direction. This is a Very exciting swap and I am looking forward to the finished gem. 👍
One of my favorite small cars. Modified the drivetrain and body and a few different ones in the 70s. They were a blast to drive and got many comments on how cool the cars looked.
Should be a great project!
Wow you and Charlie scored! I am looking forward to seeing this. So different and sooooo cool!
Out done yourself on this build, love it, .. I own a jdm gen 5 celica but these 70's beauts are another level of cool.
Definitely looking forward to how this project turns out! By the way, love the Reptar hoodie.
What a cool swap! It will mean so much more to drive it knowing your dad's engine is the new heart of the cool litttle beast! Can't wait to see the process!
LOVE the new project! We can have a winter project vicariously through you!
Had a 77 Corolla Liftback in the 90s and absolutely adored that car. There's something so memorable about 70s JDM, Idk maybe it's the way they smell. Super excited for this one.
I remember when these were new. This is gonna be a banger of a friggin' Ride once you've put your touch on it. Have fun doing it! And Charlie rock's.
Great project!!!! I love it. 🙂 I'm a native New Hampshirite so I always love seeing when you get stuff from home. This is going to be awesome!
I already love this project so much! And yes your modification decisions are always on point and in great taste and style.
What a fantastic idea - genius! The trend for restomod 4.7 V8 Celicas starts here 🤩
This generation Celica was my best friend’s first car in high school. It was a great little car, we had lots of fun in it. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
im going to love this build old celicas are rad and its so meaningful to reuse the heart of your dads truck!! amaze!
Cool and unique project. Lots of potential.
Its extra special with the connection to your dad. Hope you remove the luggage rack on the trunk lid.
You mentioned upgrading the differential, but won't you also need to upgrade the transmission?
However I don't know Toyota cars very well so maybe the factory Celica unit will work.
A 5 or 6 speed manual would be nice.
I'm excited for this project. Can't wait to see it rip down the road.
Sarah! New subscriber here! I just started going back to watch the Ranger project videos from the start and now you distract me with this! What an AWESOME project, so cool! That 74 Celica is simply gorgeous and the fact that you are using the engine from your Dad's old truck is the icing on the cake! Well Done! Keep up the Excellent work! :D
What an incredible find! Of all the project cars you could've found, holy crap what a jackpot! Little nit -- that's not an 8 track player, it's just a cassette deck designed for the tape to go straight in instead of putting it in sideways like most of them. 🥰
Had a 74 Celica that was originally the exact colour in the 1990's. Looking forward to this build.
I absolutely Love your idea's for restoring and modding a 70's Toyota!!!! Can't wait to watch the next video.
You hit the jackpot with that Celica, what a find! And a great idea to put the drivetrain outta your Dad’s truck into it
This is going to be one awesome build. Can't wait to see the finished project. You just keep getting better and better Sarah.
Amazing to see one of those again! Great looking car!
Great choices Sarah! You have obviously put a lot of thought into what you want to do. Your excitement for the project is infectious and wonderful to see!! 😁 👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome project, just don't worry on how long it will take your fans will hang with you till the end.
This is fantastic !!
Sitting on the edge of my chair all day wondering what Sarah has next.
Bulwinkle is the perfect name for that truck,,, oh and LOVE the celica,,LOVELOVELOVELOVE IT!!!
Well I wasn't expecting that!
This is going to be lots of fun.
So looking forward to watching this take shape. 🙂🙃🙂🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧
This is awesome. It’s like a season premier of one of my favorite shows. I had a ‘92 GT and 2000 GTS Celica and loved them both. Super stoked for this project.
SARAH!! That’s so exciting! That is going to be so much fun for you! I look forward to watching you make this happen!
This will be a very interesting project. That car is one of my all time favourite. Growing up as a teenager, I remember one of the mechanic working at our local garage had one and I couldn’t take my eyes away from that car.
I think it is awesome that you once again want to retain and honor a piece of family history while providing we viewers with a very creative and interesting project. And as a boomer, watching you build a 70s JDM muscle car is going to be fascinating AF. You’ve got that sparkle in your eye again! 😉 Thank you. 👍👍👍
Your plan is cool, and yet another project full of heart. "Nose Heavy Pig" sounds a lot like my 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS with it's Vortec V8 at 285 HP. It's 2wd, and knock on wood I've never had it stuck even at the beach, but it is so easy to break the rear tires loose.
Those first gen Celicas are so cool and so rare. Finding one like you got is almost unheard of and I'm sure you paid a pretty penny for it. Please, when you do the engine swap, make the car a restomod/sleeper so it still retains the charm and appearance of the original with the power and safety of your upgrades. I trust your judgment and look forward to the series.
I actually got a fair deal on it, didn’t hesitate at the price.
Glad to see your addressing the "nose heavy pig," can't wait to hear your plans about all that torque! You know your stuff!!!
I bet that poor Celica's chassis is going to flex like crazy under 325lb/ft at only 3400rpm! BUT, knowing how you do things, it's also going to be reinforced and/or adapted to send all that power down the road beautifully. My biggest respect and best of luck to you on this new project, Sarah. Greetings from Spain!
This is such a cool project. It will probably be done before my Mustang. lol
I'm PUMPED for this series. Sarah you are currently my favorite car content creator.
Hearing that you are doing this in remembrance of your father is cool.
Glad you decided to make this a muscle car. I was working with a buddy on a similar project. It never panned out but I guess I'll see this finished thru your videos. (:
I think you’ll be surprised just how heavy that 18r block and head are. They didn’t skimp on the iron back then.
Great idea for a build!
Yeah, Ive found conflicting data on its weight. Some sources list it as 403lbs!
I’ve always just watched random videos from your collection, but as a Toyota fan and 2UZ driver I can’t wait to follow this series.
This has all the markings of becoming your most ambitious, path changing, long going, frustrating, educating, curious and rewarding project yet and thus your absolutely best project yet! I look forward to this adventure so much!
I am not a fan of Japanese vehicles, but you have picked a perfect project! I am so tired of LS swaps! I can't wait to see your magic on restoring your dad's V8. I thought you were nuts when I saw the rust under the truck. It is a shame that so many vehicles are destroyed by salting the roads. I couldn't help but notice you have developed your biceps; your hard work is paying off in dividends.
Sarah this is going to be an awesome build. What a great idea to use your dad's engine
Those engines are seriously reliable. I have a 06 4 door tundra with almost 400k and it’s still running like a champ just regular maintenance and your golden.
Hello Sarah, love the Celica and I think it would be a shame to modify it the way you are describing. I would love to see it brought back to it's original look/condition with some tasteful upgrades and your great OCD work ethic. I think the Tundra engine swap should be for another project car. Just my opinion, love the channel!
If this were a GT or a GTV model, sure I would agree. I chose the ST because they are less desirable and I certainly wasn't going to use a pile of crap as a base starter car.
All that torque in a little Celica, haha! I'm excited for this build. Sarah has great taste in motor vehicles.
If I were your Dad I would be so proud of you. I would tell everyone that’s my Sarah!
