This is one of those hidden gem movies where you don't expect much upfront and then it just blows your mind lol
Exactly my first time watching this film. Lol
like radius
exactly
I think it blew another guys mind too. All over the place
dwayne warren like John wick was at first
Probably the most overlooked film of 2018. Badass, original, super well directed.
GMAN's Movie Zone finally someone that says overlooked and not underrated
GMAN's Movie Zone I didn't overlook it, I just couldn't see it
Agreed.
completely agree. Fantastic film.
It really was. This was one of the best movies in a long time. Leigh Whannell has the Invisible Man coming out. Looks good.
I love how this actor is able to make movements look like he isnt in control, and looks more machine than human (know alot is special effects, but how he acts just sells the effects is real to him)
In this movie only a few things are special effects... it's the actor doing most of that body language. With a budget of only 5 million dollar the producers had to be very selective what to do in SFX.
@@MickayG I heard it was 3 million.
I could be wrong......🙄
I'm sorry if I sound annoying but special effects is all the practical effects that they use on set: explosions, glass detonators.
Where as visual effects are all the effects done to augment the shot in post, 3d, CGI, 2d compositing ect.
@@jalin8039 Don't be sorry, just apologize. 😉
@@jalin8039 Ehhh no... visual effects can also be done before post... lighting, practical effects etc. Actually pretty funny, you're trying to correct somebody and then continue to basically explain the exact same thing making the same mistake. Special effects and/or visual effects can be done with practical effects and done in post with digital means... Point is, this movie used very little effects done in post, most of it is all camera tricks, smart use of lighting etc.
Nice little touch, notice that Grey didn't actually tell STEM to take over, the permission barrier is already broken.
Fax and what leaves me wondering is why did stem actually give gray a happy ending when he took full control of his body I mean stem is basically a machine but it can't feel anything like we humans can it should not be able to make "favours" Just because it "chooses" To do so I mean what reason did he do that happy ending for?Cuz since he can't feel emotions or have feelings than the question why remains unexplained cuz he has no uses for gray anymore he could simply get rid of him by making him go unconscious and create a brain operation all by himself wich will only leave his chip inside since he is a machine he can do surgery perfectly easy by killing the last remainings of gray making his chip surrounded by tissues and boom there we go gray is gotten rid of for Stem from this world now...it kinda us weird ending but cool one
@@Dav624 I’m assuming it’s just a contingency, the same way you have a firewall installed. The illusion is the firewall keeping Grey from trying to fight for his body back, it just makes things run smoother if he doesn’t even want to.
@@smurfadoodlethewise4584he can't fight back remember human mind was too fragile for stem so this isn't really answering the why cuz I mean Grey literally broke his mind and than ended up at his so called "paradise" But how? By stem premmission of course and now the question why did stem do that is still unanswered also how could grey fight back if his mind already broke?
@@Dav624 I think a machine like STEM would like to have a failsafe, a backup plan to make everything more secure. The illusion done to Grey was mostly to be extra secure to keep him in control, just in case there is a millimetric chance some subconscious part of his mind causes him trouble.
@@Dav624 Maybe it helps to have some remnant of his mind active, like dos running underneath windows or something, or maybe it's just something really, really dumb, like keeping it around for access to utilitarian informational memories like allergies. Maybe the brain works better if the host is still around in some capacity.
Or maybe at that level of A.I, it is capable of making choices beyond the purely utilitarian, at least if it doesn't affect anything. Or maybe it just rolled a random number generator and left it to chance. Or maybe there's a real reason as I watched this movie when it came out and while I was very impressed with it, I don't remember the details at all. I'm not even sure I'm getting the point actually maybe I only read your query once and I'm too lazy to scroll back up
The fact that this movie didn’t at least get an Oscar Nomination for Best Cinematography baffles me.
Well, people don't recognize nor appreciate art. What do you expect?
So what if I like orange juice2 I bet you that movie where some black guy kills a cop to save his girlfriend and they went on the run like Bonnie and Clyde gets an Oscar lol
Probably didn't have a casting couch involved for Hollywood execs to get their jollies. No wonder Hollywood blew it off.
cause you gotta pay to be nominated for the Oscars
Tbh I don't think it was the best at anything except for creativity, really good movie tho.
Jed Palmer doesn't get enough credit for the soundtrack. The track here is gorgeous in its own way.
Absolutely. The score is one of the things I was most impressed by in this film
Banana-Protocol yeah i’m glad people are noticing in this comments section, it’s surprisingly good
Banana-Protocol yeah i’m glad people are noticing in this comments section, it’s surprisingly good
This is up there with Hans score with Inception imo. I saw this In theaters, it was totally empty. This scene had me on the edge of my seat like the opening scene of Dark Knight(joker bank robbery ).
A Better Place is up in my top 10 best movie score songs of all time. A chilling tune appropriate for such a twisted ending.
This dude and Tom hardy could play brother's in a movie
Tom Hardy already played his own brother
This actor actually has a twin brother who works behind the scenes as a production coordinator.
And Shia LeBouf too.
he is like the cheap tom hardy XD
Even google can't tell them apart sometimes. That says something.
Cyberpunk 2077 prequel is legit dope
I kept thinking about this A LOT!
Yeah I was thinking this was just a better version of cyberpunk
I love the way they subtly stabilize the shot to his head when he runs at 1:10. Such awesome camerawork that is cheap to produce, but put to great effect and building on the narrative.
I'm going to end this quickly.
Ok how?
Like this.
Damn that was an awesome quick deadly fight.
I have to watch this movie.
Yes you do
Also parallels with reality alot. Most fights could be over few crucial seconds.
"that's how you smash a watermelon"🔫
Did u ever c it?
The music during this scene is amazing.
@Juan J. Look for “We Can’t Let Them Win” by Jed Palmer. He is the composer of this movie.
I also forgot to mention that the music here is a combination of two songs; “We Can’t Let Them Win” and “Run Gray Run”. You won’t be able to find this *exact* composition in the OST, but it’s still better than nothing.
Sounds a lot like "Lorne"
Love this movie! Love this soundtrack! Man villains looks like a nightmarish manager of Staples
I love the end of this scene the haunting music and look at the futuristic skyline dystopia. I know it's simple but things like this help set certain films apart for me
It's Melbourne... futuristic dystopia might be harsh...
2:18 this feels like something that DOOM guy would do.
slayer
Optimus did it to Megatron in Revenge of the Fallen
epic poopoo 2: the sequel His name is Doomguy though
Éanna mac donnachadha Glad someone brought that up.
he does something similar in doom eternal (both the “breaking someone’s bone to kill them” and the “using someone’s implanted gun to shoot them” thing, though separately)
I love the moment where STEM comes back online, ending the tense moment of vulnerability
This was one hell of a movie 😌
Totally agree!
Except the mouth cutting part
Scp- 049 Too brutal for you? Don’t worry. I feel you bro.
Upgrade > Venom
Amen
I wouldn’t say that’s fair because Econ was PG13 and this movie is rated R they could’ve done a lot more with Venom
venom is trash :)
rat Yeah that movie was a letdown considering how great the character and comic can be.
FACTS!
What I really love about this film is that even the camera movements are as if he were really a robot.
I love that stairwell jump at 1:14, that was really well done. It took me a couple times watching it, but it was probably at 1:12 where they switched from the actor to a stunt double in post editing.
If you watch it closely in slow mo when gray enters shadow and comes out in 1:12 you can see a cut just as he turns right
Actually no, in the behind the scenes they mention how he did all of his own stunts including the stairwell jump too. So it makes this movie even more special as the main actor Logan Marshall-Green did it all himself.
He did all of his own stunts
Honestly one of the best head explosions I've seen in a recent film
Okay, this movie has a serious fixation on executing the villains in a gruesome way. First the knife guy now this? I love it
The cold-blooded brutality and efficiency of an AI i guess
I never imagined I'd watch a movie where Tom Hardy blows Chris D'Elia's head off. Brutal
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. I mean a lot of people compare Logan Marshall-Green to Tom Hardy but that dude looks like Chris D'elia straight up.
'So I broke his arm and shot him in the head with it.'
'That... doesn't seem physically possible.'
'Yeah that's what he kept saying.'
'AUGH THIS DOESN'T SEEM PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE! *shot*'
Red vs Blue reference? Well done friend.
I miss rvb.
When you hit your older brother and run
1:11
Such a great film!!! Need sequel!!!
Keep fingers crossed they say it may happen
@@CyrilSmithVA proof?
The main character kills himself. How would there be a sequel. The upgrade he got is evil. How would the sequel work.
Demon Slayer he didn’t die. He is trapped in his own mind.
Junior Medina not everything needs a sequel, this is a great standalone film
Like everyone has said...I cant believe I didnt hear about this sooner.
A+ 10/10 movie
Gives off some cyberpunk vibes too.
Saw this 4 times in theaters and had to buy it on Blu Ray, one of my favorite movies ever
Can we take a moment to highlight the real hero of these clips?
*The caption writer.* 😂
Top 5 Cyberpunk films, imo. I wish more films explored a future of bio-modifications like this. It seems we are inching closer to it being a real thing.
This films soundtrack is 🔥
2:21 *BRUTALITY!!!* Grey *WINS!!!*
Ahem..... Stem wins.
It needs to be completed because it is as wonderful as it says
rofl that kill was a thing of beauty, in terms of direction and cinematography - really fast, yet without sacrificing necessary information, and just viscerally satisfying with hilarious over the top gore.
So technically STEM could have just wiped out all the pursuers and ended the threat instead of being on the run
Yes and no. Yes, STEM could have decided to fight Fisk as well at that point, but Grey’s primary motive was to get out of there and get home before anyone notices his whereabouts. We also see later that Fisk is at the very least on-par with STEM’s combat system, so a fight at that point would have been too risky.
Not to mention he has hands that are guns so actually had an advantage..
STEM was still slightly outmatched. Fisk and the others were augmented; Trace was not. However, STEM needed a body without augmentations to completely take control.
Grey wasn't trying to get caught if he fought all the pursuers.
Now that's what I call firearms. Them ballistic hands are so badass 😍😂👏👏🏾🚬🔫🤙👍
Venom and Upgrade are both amazing movies and both do different things better than each other
Okay, but whoever did the subtitles is AMAZING
Looks like a cyberpunk movie... I LOVE IT!
I’ve heard a rumour their going to make a follow on series on Netflix
The captions are great 😂
It’s a breath of fresh air to watch this movie, especially where the hero beats the villain without repercussions. The movies where the villain wins (Se7en, Watchmen, Saw, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, No Country for Old Men… to name a few) are some of the best movies I’ve ever seen. They’re emotionally unsatisfying and feel like everything was all for nothing, but at the same time, it’s really interesting to watch. We’re so used to watching the hero win.that it’s become boring.
Something that this movie did right was construct an amazing villain that had PURPOSE. Movies nowadays have villains that are just bad because they’re… bad. No real motivation behind their action, and if they do, it’s usually the rehashed and reused stuff we’ve heard a million times. With the right buildup, the villains can be the best part of the movie (like The Dark Knight.)
Edgelord
That soundtrack is sick .
This movie was pretty dope. Unfortunately i watched it on a flight but still enjoyed the hell out of it
One of the best cinematography and angles....😍😍😍
I still can't understand for the life of me how having bullets shoot out of your palm is more accurate or efficient than just using a gun
Because you have more control with recoil/angling and intuition with your palms because the kickback aka recoil would only pull your arm barely back a bit compared to holding a pistol it would as the recoil tilts the gun and your wrist partially too 🧠👈🏼
Lol because he would prolly have a built in crosshair in his vision as well or something, seems like you haven’t watched the movie cuz you’d know these aren’t just normal people
@@Randomperson11121 keyword is efficient
@@perrybb2 I mean, I seems to be more efficient since you don’t need to spend time pulling a gun…even if it’s seconds it could be the difference between life and death, unless you want to tell me what exactly you think is inefficient about it
Secondly, concealment…I mean that pretty obvious
Thirdly, I don’t think using a real gun or not matters with these people in terms of accuracy…they’re basically robots, it’s like thinking there’d be a disparity in accuracy if you give a robot a gun v building a gun into its arm…I think it’s the same thing because they can calculate everything else that’ll make a difference and adjust their movements accordingly and very precisely, i really don’t think it makes a difference…I mean wasn’t it Grey that walked into that place and didn’t even have to look at the guards to shoot them in the heads
Because you can hide it much better than a real gun
Loving the soundtrack man!
Whoever made the closed captions for this has a great sense of humor. I died laughing! ☻
I love the idea behind having a gun implanted in your arm
But how the hell would you aim it and get accurate shots off!?
@S B
Those are popular body-mods in the Shadowrun RPG.
Last edition i checked, it was standard to use induction implants in the hands to link firearms to the eyes.
Dirt poor gunslingers had to opt for external cables and visors instead.
use aim bot
Yes it's true. According to concept art based on the gun, there's a camera on the palms connected to the optical implants.
It's completely impractical. Is it like a revolver? Where the spent casings stay in your arm? Or do they eject out of your elbow or something? Do you need a magazine or clip? Or do you load 1 bullet at a time? Not to mention how hot the barrel would get.
@@AtheistGamerz Concept art says the gun uses caseless ammo. It has a flexible (I'm guessing internal) magazine(not sure how that affects the bullets) and the hot barrel problem(not explained in the art) is probably hand weaved as cyberskin or insulation or something.
I love how Fisk doesn't look badass. Just like your everyday office dude.
Fisk is the most dangerous cyborg out of all his buddies
Yeah but he has some kind of evil look to him at the same time man. Just something dark
excellent film, taught, tight, nasty, well written. Excellent use of sound and camera work. All of the CGI where its really needed.
We need part 2 of this movie
There will be a series about it
Now
1:36 How it feels when you spawn kill in Rainbow Six Siege
This Is Still One Of My Favorite Movies Of All Time To This Day. Amazing Story & Very Well Made🔥👍
Such simple, inexpensive effects. Very clever, Leigh!
I love how in these scenes Movieclips adds funny little snippets of caption every so often throughout. Funny detail some people miss.
Some of the kills in this movie are absolutely brutal.
Some great camera work in this film
I liked how the last guy's shirt fit and he was wearing a black-under shirt with it. I am trying to get to the point I can get my shirts to fit like that.
Got to there yet? I always wondered how, until I was told to just buy what they were wearing and it worked lol. You gotta at least have some arms
Don’t wear an undershirt with a polo, it’s indicative of poor taste and low class. If you must (to protect the fabric of the polo from sweat stains) then wear a v-neck that isn’t visible on the outside.

That soundtrack gets me hyped every time
Excellent film that will be fully appreciated years from now
영화 잘 보고 갑니다 사랑해요
This scene was mind blowing
Nice movie 👍
amazing soundtrack
It’s good to be back, Gray.
Such an underrated film!!!!!
One of my best scenes in this entire film. I only come to watch this scene.
Great movie 🔥👍
Yeah great I usually know someone who in that film The actress who’s from Power Rangers Mystic Force The Blue Mystic Ranger
1:43 there was a similar shot in Invisible Man's hospital scene
Both movies have the same director: Leigh Whannell
as wonderful as it says
this was me and my moms favorite movie at the time. still a banger.
How am I just now learning about this movie when it came out last year?
We need tech like this NOW.
i laugh after the villain saying his line
"now that's how you look when i saw you last"
later in split second he got his face whooped.
STEM
It's good to be back, Grey.
Cyberpunk 2077, without the glitches
"It's good to be back Grey."

Im going to end this quickly.
How?? Like this.
Such a good movie
So nice of him he was firing like mad at him through an entire building willing to kill anyone in the way but waited on the rooftop so he could talk to himself, godbless
FALCON PUNCH 😂
Nice movie 😗🤔
Please make a sequel to this movie man...
Underrated movie
We need a part 2 please
Mind-blown🤯
Hidden Gem Sci-Fi Action Movie of 2018!
Blew Chris Delia's head off 😂😂
that was, in fact, very quick
Man the camera shots in this movie are so sick
Any other films cool and original like this that I may have overlooked ? please recommend. Want to binge on as much as I can during lockdown.
Mi like 60 y a ver el vídeo. Saludos.
Fun fact
They had only 2 fake heads to explode
The first one failed, so we almost didn't get that mind blowing scene
It's good to be back, Grey.
@ 1:29 - ahh... brings back memories of using the Farsight sniper weapon when playing Perfect Dark...
That was one of the most coolest kills i have ever seen in my life 2:20
i like the Style of Leigh Whannell the invisible man and upgrade have both similaritys i like that i hope i get too see more of his filming style cant wait for his next project yeah i know my english sucks
This movies soundtrack plus the tech always reminds me of deus ex
oh i was not expecting that at all...
What is the name of the song playing at 0:23? Is it on the OST? Edit: Nevermind, it's a very short of the song, "We Can't Let Them Win", on the soundtrack (starting at 3:00).
