    what you need to do is setup the drive with 2 partitions one with OSX the other for windows, run the bootcamp tools in OSX to set up the second partition so it can boot, then after that shut the system off
    then get a random computer plug the drive into that and run the windows setup and install windows on to the bootcamp partition wait till the setup gets to the end when it asks to reboot at that point you just shut the system off take the drive back out and thrown the drive back into the mac, if it starts back up in OSX change the startup drive, boot it up and it should continue the setup, this is how i did on my old MAC pro 1.1
    oh make sure its in legacy mode on the PC and not UEFI
    this also works if you only want windows, you just skip the bootcamp and OSX stuff just make sure the PC is in legacy mode and not UEFI when running windows setup.
    this method works but i herd you can damage the mac in some way, not sure how, no one really talks bout it much somthing to do with the mac's firmware.
    i know you can install windows 7 32bit i wonder if windows 8 32bit would work natively without any tricks.

    The "select CD-ROM boot type" screen is notoriously difficult to deal with on these older MacBooks. It's a byproduct of them having a weird Compatibility Support Module (allows for booting of legacy OSes on EFI hardware) and 32-bit EFI. There are several solutions to this problem, including patching the image or burning it with special settings in ImgBurn, but the one thing that should work no matter what is to install 32-bit Windows 10 in legacy BIOS mode on that hard drive with a PC and then putting the hard drive into the MacBook. A virtual machine could also work but it's more involved.

      I installed succesfully few months ago Windows 10 64 bits on my late 2006 MacBook, with your method, to be more precise : the main part is that I need to use ... another MacBook (that is more recent) ... I know this is weird but this was the only solution, so I used my MacBook Mid 2009 (same case but different CPU GPU etc ...) : so what I did is 1. I took the HDD from the 2006 to put in the 2009 MacBook 2. I burn a CD with Plop Boot Manager (in order to boot from USB, because no white MacBook can boot from USB natively), then I burn the Windows 10 iso image to my USB flash drive 3. I put the CD with Plop and the USB Drive on the 2009 MacBook then power on the Mac 4. in Plop Boot Manager I select the USB Drive, but after this you will have a blinking line : it can stay at this state from few seconds to one hour (yes one hour) 5. After Windows 10 boots, install this as normally, but after the first restart, don't continue the install, power off the 2009 MacBook 6. Put the HDD that is on 2009 MacBook on the 2006 MacBook, put your USB Flash drive with Windows 10 (but don't put the CD with Plop, we don't need this anymore), and continue the installation. And normally it should be good (this is how I remember in my mind). Also with this MacBook, Apple dosen't provided any 64 bits Boot Camp drivers for any version of Windows... so in order to fix that you should download Boot Camp 4.0.4033 from the 29th June 2011, then follow the instructions of the YT video "Install Boot Camp 64 Bit Drivers on Unsupported Macs" from "josephjdrew", and don't forget to run BootCamp64.msi as compatibily mode with Windows 7

    • @DistrosProjects
      @DistrosProjects Před rokem

      @ you can boot legacy USB using rEFInd as well

    •  Před rokem

      Also I forget to say but you will probably say ... why I don't put Plop Boot Manager CD directly in the 2006 MacBook (instead of using a 2009 MacBook for the first part) ? Because I tried this (to put Plop in the 2006 MacBook), it boots correctly to Plop, but for an unknown reason, the keyboard is not recongnized on the 2006 MacBook o_O but the keyboard is recognized on the 2009 MacBook with Plop CD ... I don't know why ...

    •  Před rokem

      @@DistrosProjects I did remember using rEFInd on this MacBook in the past (few years ago) as well, but I didn't remember what happened (in my souvenirs I think it tried to boot the USB flash drive as EFI mode, and not BIOS mode, so it didn't worked, and today I almost sure it didn't worked, because after that I used the technique of using another MacBook and Plop)

    you can bypass select cd-rom boot type if you hold down the enter and 1 keys right after selecting the right os in the Mac boot picker. it might take a few tries. as for windows 2000 all you have to do to get it booting is use an xp ntdetect file. if you enablebiglba you can even install windows 2000 to a bootcamp partition alongside macos.

    Your Windows installer USB probably didn't work because for the boot menu to detect the drive it needs to be under 4GB and formatted in FAT not NTFS. I did something similar with a 2011 macbook pro, got windows 7 iso under 4gb and then updated it to windows 10 right after. Make sure you use balena etcher or rufus to get the iso in the USB drive

    Windows 10 refused to start the installation because Microsoft makes changes to the Windows 10 Kernel and high-level changes. That could explain why it didn't start and it could also be Apple not making their Macbooks compatible with Windows 10 since they weren't manufactured by Microsoft.

      Firewire for the win. Literally have tb3 to tb2 to firewire adapter for stuff. Unfortunately my audio device doesn't have drivers on arm (which was my main reason) but works on my pc over tbolt (since I replaced my fw card with a tb card to get 20gbit tb network to my Mac studio) so just use a wicked audio over network thing, sonos something? And get basically 0 latency over the tb network even with like 100s of 2496 channels at least. But having fw drivers on arm would be nice, its technically possible but Apple has 0 docs as I even went to try and write the driver myself/port a Linux version

When I try to boot from a USB it takes ages to load in some computers, like half an hour of the black screen with blinking underscore till it started the install process. I honestly don't know if that's the case in there because it was a white screen and it's a computer from Apple, but I would like to know how much time did you waited?
