An uncrewed vessel can not provide medical assistance or perform engineering tasks on planets or other ships. You need away teams for those. The only thing the Texas class is good for is combat. So use it to replace the defiant or saber class.
On the scale of 1-10, how bad do you think things may get?
@@kellymccormack8346 knowing this ship, probably 8 or 9
actually the defiant class could never be replaced because in terms of lb for lb combat... the defiant class is probably the most powerful ship and cheapest ship that starfleet ever put out . not even the texas class could knock hte defiant ou.
@@joeswanson733 The Texas class saves money and weight on life support systems, and using only Jeffries tubes[1] (at the largest) instead of human-sized hallways and rooms makes it even more compact. Shame about the sociopathic computer brain, though.
EDIT: Actually the Defiant class may still be more powerful, but a fleet of Texified Defiants ... would probably destroy the Federation.
[1] I'm assuming it uses repair drones a la the ones retconned onto 2260s ships on _Discovery_ .
This whole episode really pointed out that Starfleet should upgrade the California Class Ships.🤔
Or replace them for new ships, while keeping the crews.
So, sort of like how the TOS era Miranda class was still around during the TNG era.
They were cheap to built and be produced in large numbers. Sort of like the Perry class frigates.
I feel like california class ships are like crusiers compare to a battleship.
@@leejames8024More like corvettes.
Automation an entire starship would go against the very thing that makes starfleet, the people.
In a universe where a good portion of the bad guys are tech based (the Borg, various evil A.I. , etc), Starfleet thought it would be a good idea to create a bunch of unmanned drones and set them loose in space? Also kinda glad that Freeman is facing some krama for how she treated her own daughter.
One would think Starfleet would have learned from the debacle of the M-5 Unit, but I guess a hundred years is long enough to erase institutional memory...
Well... an even better portion are just people out in space causing problems so......
Did you see the episode with the rogue ai secured storage facility?
There are a ridiculous number of deranged machine intellects.
@@draco84oz Yep.
That’s because they all think they are Data, intelligent, logical, fast and benign. They forget about Lore.
I'm really amazed that Rutherford's Cyber Implant Mystery was the main story plot for this season.😮
They use his face to cover this season. It’s bound to related somehow
Starfleet ship designers: Am I a joke to you?
The California Class is a perfect replacement for the aging Miranda Class, it is perfect for transport and Starbase re-supplying duties.
For someone named Buenamigos that admiral really is not a good friend.
For putting Texas class for second contact? What was he thinking, those things are warships no question around it.
It'd be like sending an Akira on a 5-year science mission.
Maybe they could than also send the defiant to a Peace conference on betazoid
Well, it doesn't hurt being prepared if old enemies or new ones arrive.
Maybe that was the idea
@@thiagodeandrade7081 Only problem with that is That “second contact” is basically Starfleet coming back to check on the planets that they had first contact with, to see how things have changed and or maybe have progressed from the last time they visited. That is until the Society of the planet is fully integrated into the Federation.
An animated Star Trek Deep Space Nine sequel series really needs to happen.🤞
animation is better because you dont have to build anything we see and they can show much larger spaces.
@@carlosrivas1629Agreed, same for super hero shows.
Something I remember from the episode where Buenamigos first appeared is that he is the Uncle of Mariner (she called him Uncle when she saw him on the view screen).
I guess they forgot the incident when an A.I. took control of a group of starfleet ships as well as the dead body of an admiral. Then again, that was a section 31 project. Therefore, it was probably kept a secret. The Texas class project was probably a section 31 project too. Admiral Buenamigo was probably part of section 31. Perhaps, someone thought they can reactivated that project and be more successful.
I guess we will find out about the fallout next season. Then again, it maybe covered up as well especially when the Aledo kick a Sovereign class ships ass. Might be the real reason that the Odyssey class was introduced to replace them.
Wasn't his code for giving the Aledo independence Buenamigo-alpha-31?
He could have also just worked with them. It makes sense for section 31 and Admiral buenamigo to have worked together as both would profit from it. Buenamigo gets the fame and section 31 has propably some codes on the texas-class ship to control them or to use them as spy-devices
STD is not Canon 😠
they are untested
no matter we'll use them anyway
15 minutes later: oh no
Have you noticed the post-credit scene?
Badge and the Borg???
ok, i've got to say this... just how BAD does that class have to be for starfleet to want to scrap it.
They sent Miranda's and Oberths against the borg. HECK first contact, they sent the USS Boseman against the borg. that thing was an obsolete Soyuz-class dating back to well, kirks time...
a class has to be beyond useless, to be mothballed
From what I can gather. The California Class has served reliably as a second contact vessel with no real issues. Its also not a new design either. It comes from the era when Starfleet was producing ships based more on the Galaxy class design. Its both not that old but its a symbol of Starfleets more pacifist era right before the Borg and Dominion. The Ship appears to be used to establish further diplomatic relations, supplies, fabricated equipment for bases or colonies. Its a work horse and fits well within the requirements of a ship it seems for its duties. She's not that well armed for a fleet battle but can act as support. They appear to be just stripped down Galaxy's but still have many of the things galaxy's had. So far nothing in the class proves its worthless. Its aging yes and she's working along side ships that clearly is performing similar duties indeed this is expected. So far nothing proves the ships are useless.
I think the problem with the ship is not age or performance, but in looks and the fact Starfleet admiralty at least the stuck up doesn't respect the ship, much less the crews. Its the ugly in the Federation inventory, likely created by a someone who cared more about function over form. Its aging and the Admirals who's been likely hell bent on new designs since the end of the Dominion War has likely been fielding new cooler more efficient designs that can pack more punch and is able to be both a 2nd contact or rapid response unit. The admiralty wants defiants nots explorers or workhorses. The Texas class is more what they want. Sleek, fast, able to multi-function. Go in guns blazing instead of trying to figure out first.
@@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent Again, the fact that they wouldn't keep the cally and add in these ships... no, they wanted to scrap the callys. Box the line, before even boxing miranda's and oberths. Oh no.. it was JUST the cally class. as if the ONLY thing the cally could do is a very limited set of missions.
Great I’m grad mariners back and all things ended well and t`len part of the cre2 omg I can’t wait for season for I freaking, ing love this show, she will be working along side tendi even cooler tendi loves science Vulcans love to learn are natural born scientist t`len is like the Vulcan style of mariner they’d be perfect together it plb make mariner a better person plus driving each othere nuts whatever the Vulcan equivalent to driving someone nuts, plus tendi and t`len and tendi are so much alike when it comes to rebelling and learning, and t`len and Rutherford are a lot like watch othere when it comes to logic.
I would love it if a) Mariner ends up not being able to stand T'Len, and b) T'Len and Boimler end up interested in each other. That would be fun ^_^
@@Robert-hz9bj Mariner should have never come back. Not after being banished to Starbase 80.
Man, why does starfleet even HAVE admirals? They never do anything constructive.
You mean just like the Jedi?
Love ❤️ 😍 💖 is Episode
I guess I assumed the "Texas class," or something very similar, existed in a support role throughout federation space to begin with
I wonder if, Jet will be added permanent member of the group along T'Lyn?🤔
(me speaking in a Dalek Scientist voice): [offended] "PROFESSIONAL?! HOW DARE YOU!!! CAPTAIN FREEMAN KNEW THE RISKS AS WELL AS THE COSTS BUT YOU SHOULD NOT JUDGE HER TOO HARSHLY!!!"
The line of how the admiral says oh you nearly were killed by the brean cuz you just were not professional enough. That bothers me like what the finest crew in Starfeelt would have not been prepared for something like that.
Unfortunately, the expose in the previous episode did not exactly help. I don't disagree with you, but the credibility of the Cerettos crew has been called into question based on the expose.
@@karlolson1363 yeah I do agree with that
0:37 she’s right, I want season 4 to talk about freeman’s action against her daughter I say mariner is lying about being OK.
We still don't know the reason behind Mariner's behavior from a rising behave Starfleet Officer to a misbehave Starfleet Officer.🤔
She’s a veteran of the Dominion War. So let your imagination wander.
we finally fleshed out Rutherford's mystery background. I'm sure we're going to have a special episode that will tackle mariner experiencing some seriously traumatic shit where following orders/playing it by the book (probably from some officer who was promoted too early bc of dominion war personnel shortages) would have gotten a lot of her friends hurt, she saved the day by being a maverick, and then she got demoted
"A necessary part of the fleet", so let us get rid of it.
We can all agree that the best episode of season is Deep Space Nine.👍
that is up for debate. Final, crisis point 2 and ds9 are the best 3 of both the season and series for various reasons.
So I can see people, especially those who didn't watch ds9 putting it 2nd or 3rd.
My question was that if they were going to get rid of the California class were they going to get rid of only the Cerritos or all of the California classes?; because if I remember right that’s more than 30 ships.
0:18 I think you forgot about freeman getting rid of her daughter for talking to a reporting when she said only great things about the ship and freeman (her mom)
The Texas was clearly well suited for combat and basic fetch and run missions, they could have been extremely helpful but second contact may involve very complicated unraveling of political or social issues, it would have never worked out
you know the California class could hold a Texas class in that space in-between the saucer and warp core. make the Texas mostly automated with a skeleton crew.
Because, as everyone (except Starfleet Command apparently) knows, Starfleet has never had any problems with A.I. 🤣
M5 from the Tos
@@thomasrowe5264 - That's why I was being sarcastic. They've since added to it. For example, Control from Discovery, which predated the M5. I think that the problem is that Starfleet classifies all these disasters and that results in people unintentionally repeating them because they don't know about the previous instances.
@@thomasrowe5264 One book, "The Immortal Coil" (which linked all of the Star Trek AIs together) said that to computer scientists the M5 is their version of the Frankenstein Monster. In the book the M5 is reactivated and true to its programming it goes after threats it itself.
To be honest, they should have been able to detect the Breen. However, wasn't Kirk taken by surprise by the sudden arrival of Klingons in the K-7station (or was it on Organia?)? He had intelligence on their intentions, but did not detect them until it was too late.
They're gonna leave out the fact that she banished Mariner to Starbase 80?
Sending warships for second contact is bad idea. More over an automated warships
how the hell could an automated ship take over Second COntact duties? You need people for that.n
Why are Admirals are always undermining those who are below their ranks? Is not just In Star Trek shows.
High ranking Officer Brain is a hell of a drug.
Once off the bridge hard to "make a difference"
czcams.com/play/PLCGOfWl_gMeDRU-t13NBrdW4NSDzuEAOn.html
The California class should be, not shuddered, but steadily phased out and replaced by the Parliment class which is the clear successor to take on second contact missions. The California fleet - with several more decades of operational life still available - would be perfect for use as transport for establishing new settlements
Wasn't this show kind of a satire, initially spoofing all the Star Trek iterations? Seems it's just become another version of the very shows it was parodying
I think of this show like "Justice League International" in DC Comics, which was a humorous take on the Justice League. They reformed the Justice League (the old League broke up) but the problem was all of the A-List characters (except for Batman) weren't available at that time. So they composed a team consisting of Batman, The Martian Manhunter, B-List and C-List characters and made it funny by showing what happens when the heroes are out of the sight of the Public. It became such a big hit that it led to two other series.
I think this is the same thing with "Star Trek: Lower Decks": we are getting to see the part of Starfleet that usually isn't seen on the other shows, on a ship that is the working horse of Starfleet. I don't think of it as a parody of Star Trek but a humorous take on it that did add some great additions to canon, such as Second Contacts. Also, despite the humor it can be as action packed and emotional (such as the scene with T'Lyn where she says she is not vulcan enough) as the other series.
...kinda like California is being shuttered today.
Jun luke Picard I say otherwise unmanned ship's what if the Borg simulate those ship's what will you do then but I'd highly recommend instead of Calaforna classes sovren classes but that's besides the point ai intelligence can not be trusted ever look at m6 and Kirks era that's what a artificial intelligence I mean pirsonely I'd rather data but he's dead czilla walks in even though I do have a artificial intelligence on bord maximus it was certified by data him self so if any artificial intelligence it should be tested by kyies she can be the next one to certify or disqualify it the admiral no lunch Jun luke huff me kyies lunch Maximul admiral gasps and old Maximul arives czilla lunch all the ships that IV built and created with special features and a Armada arives the admirals waht me it only takes on artificial intelligence and Jun Luke impressed and Shocked me and 3 untested artificial intelligences you want to know were My type of artificial intelligence came from research files on Mister Tony Stark and put a end to This hog Wash IV been preparing if the federation ever falls what IV built as what you see is the last line of defense so if you or the federation ever think about artificial intelligence do it right free man wow junluke same the admiral I think the fall of the federation is already at hand kyies ship's arming up and gitting ready to fire the admiral civil war!!!!!! Ha ha ha Jun luke Picard you are a mad man admiral I don't care and energizes out me slams the table and says kyies destroy all uff the station is under by the
Is everyone here is just knowingly blind to the political statement being made in this episode? Honestly these scenes got my attention but this metaphor makes me happy I haven't watched one episode. Do we really need Star Trek to divide us like this? It's a horror what they've done to Roddenberry's legacy. May Star Trek Rest in Peace.
This long screed about how the show divides us and is destroying the legacy of the franchise mere sentences away from you also saying you haven't seen a single episode is really funny
@@SmartSmears I had a hard time deciphering your slang
well folks a 21st century cartoon is the Trekkiest Trek the franchise has made after years of failed show. The writing in LD supercedes anything else thats been done in the franchise for 30 years. Long Live Toon Trek
Best trek since The Orville
I hope that Lower Decks isn't disregarded when the series ends, and that we see the characters pop up in other series. I'd like to see a meeting between Spock and T'Lyn since Spock would be able to help her with her issues with her emotions.
