What an interesting video! I enjoyed hearing about your subscribers’ favorite books and 2023 highlights. Fascinating story about Richard III.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Isn’t it! The team also tracked down a Canadian cupboard maker who is a descendent of Richard III and matched his DNA sample. And lots of other fascinating things during the process. There are documentary videos about the ‘dig’ on CZcams if you’re very interested :)

Thank you very much for the public praise and recommending others to check out my postings!
Most of my friends and some coworkers have an interest in literature, music, and movies, etc.
Family has always been another matter. Anyone who reads as fervently as I do is judged eccentric, or worse.
I was once accused of thinking I was better than others because of reading. My response to such criticism is unprintable.
Friends and family change over time, that is part of life. Even friends who remain so are subject to relocation, illnesses, and, as I've discovered, death.
My favorite genre was science fiction, but as I have gotten older, detective and crime fiction were added.
Keep reading! It just might matter!

Wonderful to hear you have friends and coworkers that have interests in common whom you can talk to. It’s lovely when one finds such friends :)
Yes friends and family change over time. It’s a bit sad.
      Thank you! Happy reading!

Hi Nicole, I really enjoyed this video.
So good to hear about other book lovers all over the world and learn about their favorite books. I am in the winning group, for my favorite is Jane Eyre.
And hear about the books mentioned by others certainly encourage me to branch out and try some of the books mentioned.
I read the Count of Monte Cristo when I was very young, and now, because of this video, I want to find the book and read it again.
You certainly make me want to read as many Shakespeare plays and sonnets as possible. And you are the motivation for me to give Ulysses another go.
Thanks for sharing a bit of your life and thoughts on life, people, and books. Books, especially those one come to read again and again, are just like old friends, and yes, they never left you.
I don't quite agree with you on the certainty of books. Books can have open endings. And sometimes, the plot can be very unpredictable, full of twists and turns. There are also books in which you may change your views on them or on the themes when you re-read them, so each and every reading can be a fresh experience.
Just a point of interest, I also read The Romance of The Condor Heros (not sure whether I've got the English title right, I read the books in Chinese), and I love them. But it was a long time ago.
Look forward to your next video, and thanks again, Nicole.

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed hearing about people’s favourite books. Haha yes Jane Eyre is definitely the favourite of favourites!
Hope you are making friends and getting on with Shakespeare and Ulysses alright?
Glad to hear you loved the Condor Heroes too!
      My pleasure. Happy reading!

Thanks for devoting time to your followers, nice episode. Yes I am keen on George MacDonald, I'm glad you're reading Phantastes, I assume you chose that book as it is the one that had the most significant impact upon C S Lewis, it is quite strange and convoluted but as Lewis says there is that sense of goodness about it. I'll be interested to hear what you make of it, funnily a friend of mine just told me he had started reading it, a copy io gave him years ago and I'd forgotten about.
I like you comments about place (genius loci) that sense of magic that the imagination can invest, there isn't a lot of New Zealand literature I love and it doesn't reach to far back, but Maori mythology is special for me and there are some local books I love.

Hello Keri! The imagination of George MacDonald is beautiful in Phantastes. I’ll have a think and try to put to words what I think about it. Thank you from mentioning him a few times it definitely pushed him up the priority list haha. Hope your friend enjoys it!
Thanks for the questions - I enjoyed thinking about it very much and they made me value this place I’m living more :)
      Maori mythology sounds intriguing!

I would suggest reading Love in the Time of Cholera before the 100 years of Solitude. Thank you for reading my answers. I love your channel.

Sweet video! I left the comment that mentioned Barbenheimer... I think both of them are great movies! I had some issues with Oppenheimer, mainly because of the way it represented the female characters/the real women the characters were based on. Barbie on the other hand was such great fun and quite touching. It's not a perfect feminist movie or anything, but it's still lovely.
I just also want to say: I love your channel. Thank you for all of the dedication and hard-work you put into making your videos!

I see I see. I don’t know much about the real women in history. But I hear you! I still need to watch Barbie - I heard so much about it but haven’t watched!
Thanks so much! My pleasure :)

Hello Nicole. I enjoyed this video. I went back to the initial video to check if I made a response - I did. It appears that I just sent off my response before I thought about proofreading. I apologize. You had to guess what I meant and you got it correct! Your channel has inspired me to check into Shakespeare again. You recommended a book by Thomas Foster. I discovered a copy at a used book store. I also found a book that Benjamin McEvoy suggested so you are up there with the great McEvoy...LOL. There is always so much to say but I don't want to make you guess again at what I mean if I don't get the words right. Thank you so much for your channel and passion for books. Have a great day everyone!!

Congratulations and thank you so much for doing this. I loved listening to all the comments.
Have you read Great Expectations - that's my favourite Dickens and one of my all-time favourite books.
Anne of Green Gables is in that all-time favourite book list as well. 😊
I want to get into William Blake's poetry. I read a collection a while back but I don't think I "got" much. Want to explore the connection between Blake's mysticism, poetry and art.
The other poet I want to get into is TS Eliot. I read a collection of his last year and didn't understand anything. 🤭 Want to try again.
The connecting thread? Very random but they are two of Olga Tokarczuk's favourite poets (Nobel Winner 2018). I've been reading some old interviews by her because she has a new book coming out this year which interestingly revisits Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain in her own way. Yes I recommend the Woods translation too, want to reread Mann's book before I read hers.
Happy reading and thank you for the video.

Hello! Glad you enjoyed listening to the comments. My pleasure :)
Oh interesting connecting thread! Books and authors do talk to each other don’t they! I love finding new interests in older authors via newer authors too. So much fun. I found Blake and Eliot difficult as well. Thanks for the recommendation.
      Happy reading!
