Trust me, it's not the "continental" style of football that Leeds were hated for, it's that their players went out to break legs rather than play football.
However, I very much agree with all the points about the PL being too happy clappy and all foam fingers (not to mention the phone cameras and plastic sticks). Some of the bastions of English football are in the Championship (Wednesday, Leeds, Forest...dare I even say Sheffield United) and the top flight would be much better with these clubs showing what true passion and loyalty is!
Much kudos for Millwall starting to sort themselves out too, charity work should be applauded by all. Still, it took a lot of bans for the scumbags in order to let the decent fans shine through.

    • @SaiyanSite

Old den was a bit naughty but it was exciting.
Share a bit of banter in the pubs before the games.
As for Leeds, think this video highlights why they're hated. Their fans are just out of touch with reality. Because they play continental football? No. It was because of their reputation for fowling and purposely trying to injure players. "Dirty Leeds" didn't come from off the pitch antics.
Then this view that they have that "lon-don" is a big enemy too them lol it's just silly.
But yeah neither of these teams would be close to my most hated personally. Had some fun times at Elland Road watching Maupay score for us and going out to celebrate in town after. Never had any trouble there.

The guy who commented on the Leeds Unts history is correct. Leeds Utd was the 1st Modern day side to play continental style football in the English game. Meaning that all the players from any area of the park were comfortable on the ball, from defence to attack. The only person that maybe stuggled with that was Jack Charlton..
But Paul Madley his replacement was so good and could play in any position on the pitch - made up for that. So they were Englands first club side that could lend themselves to be playing "Total Football" in the then called "First Division" - what we now call the "Premiership".
However, within the era in which they came from which was the late 1960's to middle 1970's - That era had "hard men" to nullify the creative players in the game. Players like Nobby Styles(Manchester Utd), Peter Story (Arsenal), Tommy Smith and Ron Yeates. Jimmy Case (Liverpool), Ron "Chopper" Harris(Chelsea), Allan Hunter (Ipswich Town), Tony Book( Manchester City)...
But they when Leeds United players gave it back to them they didn't like it....
Leeds United were the 1st side in the English game to have 4 x International Captains in a modern Current English Club side such were the force - these were Billy Bremner (Scotland), Johnny Giles(Ireland), Terry Yorath ( Wales) and Trevor Cherry England.
Leeds United were the first side to change how English sides were to play the game like European side…Leeds United were also the 1st side to allow “Commercial Sponsorship on their Football shirts in the English game as well,…Then Liverpool took over this “Thinking” of Continental style football (Keeping the ball and waiting for the right moment to strike) had continued successes with it……

Leeds have a surprisingly high ammount of supporters around the world. At least in Norway the supporter group are quite big for Leeds being so bad for almost the last two decades. Hopefully they will go up this year. The official supporter group in Norway is between 5000-6000 but I imagine there is a lot of unregistred Leeds fans out here. It might have to do with that Leeeds have had many Norwegian players through the previous year, Eirik Bakke, Gunnar Halle, Alf-Inge Håland and Frank Strandli.

back in the 1960's leeds were promoted to the top flight and had an excellent team. They also had players who could dish it out when needed. Most clubs did though to be fair. The london and manchester based media hated leeds for upsetting the balance of power within the game and fostered the myth of 'dirty leeds'. The tag has stuck to this day and is used by opposition supporters now to try and put the club down. Leeds have opne of if not the besty away following in engkland and one of the biggest viewing figures when featured in live games on TV. They also have a global fan base.
Even though they have been out of the top flight for 14 years they still attract huge crowds and passionate fans. They are a phenomenal fan base.

Alexander the Great I’ll explain since I’m a spurs supporter well first look at it spurs have the most teams who consider them as there biggest rivals in the premier with 3 being West Ham, arsenal and Chelsea a big reason why they hate spurs is because the big teams usually spend a lot as the top teams I. The prem usually spend the most however spurs are an exception as they have never really spent that much money but are still one of the biggest clubs in England winning more than 20 trophies including 2 titles they were also the first English team to win a major European trophy as well as the first English team to do the double so the fact that they did this well without spending that much as within the last 5 years they have the 2nd lowest net spend and within the last 10 years they have the lowest net spend which is a big reason why a lot of clubs may hate us as they are jealous the other big teams can’t say we spent a lot of money and won nothing while we can say that to them and the small teams can’t say to us that the only reason we finish high is because of our spending as a lot of out players over the years have come out of our academy such as probably the greatest Tottenham player in history Glenn hoddle who supported Tottenham before he became a player and a lot of our players we buy quite young for cheap then turn them into great players so the smaller clubs just look at us and are annoyed that we are doing so well when we don’t spend as much as overs around us and actually spend one of least on players almost every season out of every team in the prem even the recently promoted ones so the smaller clubs don’t have the excuse of money for us and the bigger clubs look at us with fear as they think if they can do it with such a low budget then why can’t others also there pride is hurt as we can say to them that we are at their level while not spending much while being the only top 6 team who can talk to the other 5 and say that they spend to much money as even arsenal massively out rank us when it comes down to spending money on transfers which scares the big teams as if we win they don’t have the excuse of you spent a lot of money while we can keep on saying that we are overachieving and that they won the cups because of money and we are doing that on a league which is the richest League in the world so that’s probably the reason why lots of people hate us the big teams because of fear and pride and the smaller teams because of jealously and that they have no excuse as to why we are doing so good and they aren’t

As a Millwall fan you just get used to the hate and laugh it off. I for one speak to the away fans if i can ever get near them and tell them to enjoy the game, and i have never been in a fight at football. At least championship clubs like us have a proper club feel full of locals/proper fans. You can keep your face paintings and tourists in the prem.

That’s interesting. I’ve been to some PSG games and you can see where a club like that is just a giant money grab. You can tell a large group of fans are just tourists there to see the star players and they’re constantly taking selfies, streaming video from their phones and because they’re visiting they don’t know how to properly cheer.

Its Manchester United without a doubt
1.The Sheffield Wednesday match in April 93. The injury time at the end was unbelievable, leading to Chris Waddle asking the referee if his watch had broke. Ultimately leads to Steve Bruce scoring in the 96th minute.
2 The Cantona Kick. Eric Cantona lashes out at a fan in the crowd. Performed a karate kick on the supporter. Cantona gets banned for 9 months.
3.Fergies lean on the English FA. Fergie had more leway with the FA than any other manager. Leading to things like relist of fixtures after European football to chosen referees (ie Howard Webb). However Fergie didn’t have the persuasion with the European FA as the English FA. Showing in the titles they won in the 90’s. Many league titles but not many European Cups to go with it. Whereas clubs that are truly top of there game go on to win Cups aswell (ie Liverpool 1980’s , Barcelona 2000’s Nottingham Forest.)
    4. The ghost goal against Spurs. Mendes hits a shot from distance, only for the keeper to lose balance and claw the ball out of the net. The referee didn’t give goal and played on. ( shows how petrified the referees were against giving a decision against Fergies team.
    5. Gives the away fans shite away tickets (until recent legislation). Also not being able to stand, even when your team score!
6.The signing of Carlos Tevez. At this time Carlos was an illegal player (3rd party rep) but Man Utd managed to snap him up for a measly £19m just before new legislation came in and the Sheff Utd case against West Ham was gathering pace.
This is all in the Premier League era!

Somebody's got a chip on their shoulder. Did you ever see the mistakes Howard Webb made in games not involving Man Utd? Cos he did and lots of them. And big deal they got decisions? But when any other clubs do there's no conspiracy. And I don't hear you moaning about the TEN minutes injury time Chelsea got the other day. But you play to the whistle. Not many European titles? They have 3 who else has that many? 2 of them are Champions League which is much harder to win than the old European Cup where you had to beat the champions of Malta and Luxemburg. They also won the treble, never done by any English club. Maybe its time to change that tin foil hat and your medication. Cos your whingeing is pretty pathetic.

In my experience of Leeds there seems to be a small group of fans who are trying to make opposition fans hate them, the rest seem like your standard passionate fans. It's great to beat them, especially at their place, but hate is a strong word. Never been to a game against Millwall but their fans seem to just go overboard slightly to fill in for the fact that their team aren't famous for footballing reasons. Just my opinion from outside though
