USA Wrexham fan here.
It’s not just EFL broadcasts getting a bump. I am here watching this from across the pond because of Wrexham.
Wrexham fan here, no one who supports the town thinks we are anywhere near as big a club as Leeds or any number of other big clubs outside the Prem ( the list is a long one). We could be as big as Bournmouth or Brentford if we were very lucky but just being back in the league with great owners is a dream compared to the 16 years in Non league we just had.
@pentre21 Brentford fan here, nicely written. The truth is I think you possibly already are bigger than us (although most wouldn't admit it). In the EPL we get 17k each week but a lot of those are now daytrippers and fairweather fans that would disappear if we went down. When we go back to the Championship we'll get between 13-16k for games i'd have thought, and last time I checked yous were almost at 13k already. It's not all about attendances at all, look at Bradford for instance, but there's a clear demand and a higher ceiling than we've got.
Wrexham is a huge opportunity and the Hollywood brothers didn't randomly pick the club, everyone who knows anything about Football knows that part of the world could have a very well supported, well run Wrexham. I went to the racecourse about 18 years ago when was played you away, always a great place to visit.
Keeping a close eye on yous.
Get your owner in check or we'll all treat you like the new MK Dons
Yeh on the phone to him now mate😀@@voetbal12
@@voetbal12 Don't be a silly-billy....we're 160 years old! IOW......a 'PROPER' clib.
I don't think you guys understand how many people have started following the team here in America because of the show
Bit unfair on Rob McElhenney, Reynolds is the cheque book but McElhenny leads their partnership in the Wrexham project. He might not be known in the uk that well, but hes well known in the states, where he was part of the longest running sitcom series in the U.S. He was the driving force with that & also with Wrexham.
Simon "The Expert" Jordan is just royally jealous of what is happening with Wrexham and the success of the two owners.
Reynolds is a top movie star. LOVE Rob, but Ryan's in a different stratosphere of celebrity.
Jordan is so articulate and open minded in his separate podcast Up Front but here he just comes across as an inflammatory melon lol
Which, if Wrexham ever decide to make hollywood movies, will stand them in good sted.@@samsohn
Still part of it. At least two more seasons greenlit
'I don't like to bring people down' may be the funniest thing Jordan has ever said
100% it’s all McElhenney and Reynolds. Over here in the states, I did not know anything about Wrexham or the lower leagues except the Championship during promotion. Now,I follow Wrexham and look forward on the team’s rise to the Premier league
I had never heard of them until the show came on. I dabbled with knowing a few teams, like Sheffield United (because of Vinnie Jones), Manchester United (because of David Beckham), and Liverpool (because of Jamie Carragher).
Wrexham ( and Ryan and Rob) living rent free in Simons head. Jealousy is a hell of a drug!!!!
True. 😂 Well said.
I'm not sure, he has been there and done that with a much bigger club than Wrexham.
Two Hollywood actors turned out to be better club owners than him 😂😂😂.
Simon is such a muppet. Also Reynolds is not a billionaire.
@@JimMelton-uf7rgDone what ? He took Palace to rack and ruin......lol
Bet Disney are fuming that they keep advertising a netflix documentary about wrexham when it's actually on Disney 😂😂
If they were they wouldn't.
Haha
Jordan ran Palace into the ground. Makes out he was Roman Abramovich
What a Russian Oligarch
Simple Simon. Jealousy is a horrible thing. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
He'll praise boehly to high heaven yet slaggs off the Wrexham lads, who have and are doing a great job.
Love how a man that mis-managed Crystal Palace feels he can speak so confidently about others in football.
1000%.
He didn't even have as much power as you think. You're just a hater.
he has more authority than you
I hate how armchair supporters think they are qualified to make any statement about the game 😂
@@giovannirojas3952”didn’t have as much power as you think” the guy was full owner from 2000-2010 and was chairman the entire time he literally had all the power you absolute muppet.
I usually only watch World Cup and euro cup. I follow Wrexham. Signed up for espn plus to watch their game.
It's hilarious seeing the jealousy in Simon Jordan and it's so obvious he has to admit it, how he struggles to give credit when it's due is beyond me
I never heard of talk sports until Wrexham and because you cover them 😂 so talk about biting the hand that feeds you
What ever it takes to get more investment in the EFL is a good thing we have to stop historic clubs going bust and if Hollywood celebrities promoting English football in America and helping to get better deals bring it on.
There's nothing good about Yank colonisation.
Wrexham is in Wales, but I get your point.
@@maw1903Wrexham plays in the English football league, but I get your point :)
@@slickus You're a puppet
@curtmcg4600 nah that's you fam
I’m a stateside Premier League fan that barely knows a thing about the lower leagues (except that MLS needs the like) but I pay attention to Wrexham because of Reynolds.
Yeah, of course... people are kidding themselves if they think anyone outside the Premier League (and a few in it) has anywhere close to the exposure and fame of Wrexham currently do. It's ridiculous to claim otherwise.
Yes somebody sounds like a really jealous type. Not only that he's causing to question Ryan's integrity and robs because they will be here to the bitter end. They're not in abandoning this project ever.
Rob and Ryan have definetly raised the profile of the EFL and welcome to Wrexham doc has also raised the profile of the EFL internationally.
The popularity of the EFL was happening before Rob and Ryan took over, look at attendences of clubs like Stockport or even Salford over the years have had successes in their own right.
The fact that Rob and Ryan also choose a random club in the national league at the time was quite the story as people were pretty much asking why.
The documentary really gave an insight to the national league and EFL.
Wrexham were definitely not chosen at random. They weren't even 1st choice.
Wrexham weren't chosen at random, there were many reasons why they made the short list of the 5-10 clubs they considered and why ultimately they ended up being the best choice.
Wow from Canada. Don't know this guy but he's harshing my buzz. Is he really this miserable ?
A bit disrespectful comment from Simon about Rob McElhenney being the 'bag man' and then you have got the lap dog 'Danny Murphy' agreeing with this comment. You only have to see where Danny is from, Great rivalry between the clubs. Just seems a lot of jealousy. Why don't you both just stick to football and keep your jealous comments to yourselves.
Have a look at Simon's record (Crystal Palace) need I say more
ryan reynolds was not making it say that the million was going to harm the club as they could afford it but they wanted to get the club to be self sufficient and it was costing a million pounds a season more than the club was making at that time which was a threat to the club being self sufficient
Jordan doesnt appeciate the full benefits of Rob and Ryan.s ownership philosophy and how their unique formula has uplifted not just the football team but also Wrexham and Wales
Jordan "I'm not like the British people that like to bring people down, I like to praise people for what they actually do rather than give them more credit that they are entitled to". Really, Simon?
Talk Sport just falls into Ryan hands like putty
When it gets expensive….the owners have already said….they will need more investment..and I think they already know where it will be coming from….
that's it? where's the full video?
Simon Jordan once again with the impressive opinions!
U have heard here first folks, in a world were everyone is loosing money 40% increase is not a “big deal”.
Poor Simon doesn’t understand how they are working with WAFC.
Come on guys, just enjoy the Wrexham ride, its good to see a well run club using today’s added social media presence can prosper and climb the leagues, its a good watch and Wrexham are fast becoming every kids second team ( plus us Dads)
Speaking of Simon being in a movie I think he’d make an amazing Shere Khan in Jungle Book!!
I agree with Simon--if i could just watch EFL on my tv i would be good. From PA USA
Gave up on the PL.
Ryan Reynolds is a billionaire, as well as movies he sold aviation gin for 450 million and owns mint mobile.
Simon is so salty. Matey is gonna sell Wrexham at some point and turn a massive profit. In the meantime the fans get to enjoy an amazing ride and possible promotions.
Of course Simon is salty any owners who come in to clubs he has a go at, it is his ego, he believes he is some kind or oracle which is laughable when you look at what he did at Crystal Palace. He also talks about clubs and owners like he has just left football, he has been out of it for over 20 years it’s a completely different game and business now and he often comes across as just a jealous petty man.
Plus, the financial problems that are ahead of Wrexham in the future
when the financial problems hit the fan & they will.
Wrexham are on a rollecoster ride, all right, unlike yourself. I have
been down &:seen this road before.
Leeds United , Rangers
Portsmouth need I go on & in a decade from now
Wrexham will be Add to that list.
If Wrexham are extremely lucky they will end up
as another
Blackburn Rovers enjoy the rollecoster ride. Kemosabi, I hope the memories of the good times with Wrexham bring you joy in the dark times in the years to come for Wrexham.
You apparently are
a Yank, buy the language you you's.
You know absolutely nothing about the game.
Stick to the movies, dreams always come true in them Kemosabi, the world of football is not for you becafful not for you because when you run with the Wolfs you might get hurt remember that.
A massive profit? Only if they're in the PL. Which they won't be.
@heldinahtmlhell they've got a much higher chance than alot of clubs. The like of Luton and Sheffield United have done it in the last decade lol and they didn't have the exposure starter pack.
@@JD-hx7ydwhen were Sheffield United ever in the national league?
One can question Ryan's understanding of football but no one can question the Marketing Savant; Ryan can practically "own" the definition of what Global reach means.
right but that's why when you don't know, you hire the right people that do and start making adjustments when they aren't being effective at their jobs. But you are 100% right.
That ring is ridiculous lol
Looks like ‘profile’ has led us to back to back promotions mate 😂
Wrexham are so popular that people think they're on Netflix when they're on Disney plus lol.
For a man who had to sell his club for peanuts he has a lot of hate towards other owners or people doing OK. Simon is rhe biggest hater going. He sometimes ... sometimes talks sense but others just talks with envy in his eyes. He love Palace to have fans around the world instead of just south London
There is no way Simon believes what he says? Its all click bait and sound bites... Go on Rob and Ryan keep up the good work 👍
League 1 is very different , Shrewsbury got up to league 1 not looking likely anything else happening but going down
The reason why he said a million quid was a threat was because they are trying to make the club be self-sustaining, it was job one in their mission statement.
Watching live football adds another level of fan appeal which increases viewership.
It’s on Disney + not Netflix
Not a chance, been to multiple countries around the world, always see Leeds tops/flags never once seen a wrexham one thats crazy talk
I mean there’s a reason why Leeds are on sky so much… we pull in numbers. People from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Ireland come to watch us on a Tuesday night, never mind the ones that are watching at home on dodgy sites.
The true test of leadership is failure. When the next poor performing season comes along we will see how the owners navigate things. The results speak for themselves, but honestly I'm more impressed with what they're doing with the town proper and wondering if they will turn everything into a self sustaining ecosystem as they've described. They said they wanted the club/town to thrive even when their names are no longer attached to it and I for one believe them. Maybe that day won't even come to pass, but when it does I'll be looking to see how the following year affects the town.
Fair play to Wrexham great ownership, getting the right people for the right job. Wish my club was ambitious….. BCFC
What I’d say to quell the strong feelings is that those Americans who are now introduced to the EFL system should go one further and find a team you actually like, for one - most Americans have English ancestry of some kind and you could absolutely find a team based on that. There’s a million ways to get addicted to a team’s story and most teams lores are variations on ‘glittering heights in the past now hoping for a rise back up’. Take my team, Ipswich Town FC, 22 years out of the prem and now, at last, with back to back promotions we are BACK! That’s a story for the ages and one that I see many people getting behind. I study in Ireland and plenty of people in my class are now moving into casual fandom of ITFC because I’m passionate about them. Pick a team with an ethos, or a story or even just a colour that you like, and go all in. It’ll feel better and will be better for the EFL if the love is spread rather than hoarded on one team.
Leeds are the biggest club in the efl currently. That's fact.
Sunderland?
@michaelthornhill9073 dream on we deserve nothing last nothing we was shocking against Sunderland
I'm saying Sunderland are bigger than Leeds fan base wise
😂😂😂😂😂 funny guy@@michaelthornhill9073
The million dollar loss on not gaining promotion in the first year Jordan mentions wasn't ever presented as an existential threat. It was only considered a step back as the team's salary cap is determined by its gross revenue - which obviously will be lower in the National League - and therefore impede their plans to build the team. In so far as staying power to financially back Wrexham into the upper divisions of the EFL Ryan Reynolds has sufficient clout to continue at least into the Championship. Rob McElhenney, on the other hand, will logically have to tap out at that point. Of course in five years both may have made still more money which they're willing to commit.
P.S. Owning a professional sports team is Rob's lifelong dream. I'm sure he's prepared to invest well in excess of what would be a prudent investment for an investor of his wealth.
See if Simon was a politician I’d hate him but as a Radio Pundit I actually think he does a top job, I don’t always agree with him but I often see his point.
If Wrexham have a bigger oversees following than Leeds can Sky please take notice and move 15 fixtures in a row of Wrexham’s instead of ours?
Roger Irrelevant out of Viz being completely hat stand once again.
Simon Jordan is completely delusional. There is no overseas deal for EFL without Wrexham. Period. He claims not to hate Ryan Reynolds but it's crystal clear. Jordan ignorantly ignores the appeal of the TV show. People follow Wrexham, not Reynolds only.
Exactly, without the Netflix show it would be a an interesting story that Ryan Reynolds owns this football club in the lower leagues but you wouldn't pay it anymore attention than that... plenty of clubs have rich celebrity owners and don't get half the attention. People, like me here in Scotland, watch the show and then start supporting them as a secondary team because you want to see them succeed.
With hi hindsight 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Simon is a very intelligent man but comes across as very jealous of anyone aspiring to success in the football world
He’s very bitter over his failure at Palace and always blames the banking crisis but anyone who wishes to research knows the real reason
Bob igar has entered the chat
globally, if we being realistically, they probly are, new viewers join the internet every day, and they will see wrexham before they even know leeds and leicester are a club. they just have a much bigger platform to carry their club then the "traditional" clubs.
He’s too good looking and popular for Simon he’s well Jel..
Love the fact Sunderland arent mentioned despite gaving by far the biggest fanbase in the EFL
Jordan is a WACK, Rob McElhenney is MAC
It's always sunny in Philadelphia rocks
dunno who they are but hey deadpool all day long bro
im kidding haha
;)
They're nowhere near the global size of Leeds United.
Hard to criticize anyone or anything that helps these clubs financially. A salary cap should be implemented in all leagues.
Reynolds is part of the Hollywood group who do you know what
You’re crazy.
LEEDS has the biggest following in EFL. If Wrexham had big following then more matches would be televised
Well they actually have been televised on ESPN in the US on multiple occasions. Leeds has only ever been televised as part of the Premier League broadcast with NBC.
@@loganleroy8622leeds have been on espn many times. I live in the states i know.
Is he kidding us; Im a greek leeds fan and there are tons of leeds fans even in my country, get a grip guys!!
I think you'll get a regulator to force EPL to split revenue and the result will be they flat break off or they abide by it but other leagues in other countries will then pay more for players and will then be the foremost league. I get wanting to spread money around but a large part of me knows the money is in the epl because people want to watch like the top 6 or 7 teams on tv not the entire league pyramid. Like in my country there is a massive drop off outside of top 6 teams. There's growth in interest in but i would not say there is a massive interest in efl games at all. Not relative to major sports here or even some minor ones.
How many views do you think this video would have if it didn’t have Wrexham in the title? It’s not just the football club that’s getting an international bump because of what Rob and Ryan have done in Wrexham. And on the other point, they’ve always said that outside investment will be necessary when the team gets promoted to the Championship. The whole “not getting promoted will ruin the club” line in the documentary was a bit of Hollywood there to up the tension in the storyline. Those of us that follow the club and its financials know the how things are looking.
Mental how much people sleep on Rob.
Be interesting to see what Simon Jordan has to say at the end of the 2024/2025 season.
How dare he refer to Ronald the Rat that way!
Revisit this 😂
Jealously is a better word
They’ll do what most clubs do and hit the brick wall when they reach about league 1
It’s not Disney or Netflix it’s FX Productions
Which is owned by Disney
It's FX, which is broadcast on Hulu within the US, which is owned by Disney.
The owners association with the group that tried to by the NHL club will prove very valuable when they want this club to rise. The sky is the limit with Wrexham.
Oh no what do we have here? Its The Expert again...
Leeds sell the 17th most football shirts in the World after spending over 20 years outside the top flight. Wrexham do not have a bigger global following than Leeds United. Come off it.
Sky is archaic on demand any game anytime is the modern deals :)
Simon right, LeBron James has a few bob in LFC, but he didn't up the profile did he
Interest in an actor doesnt translate to people being into football....It probably just attracts people with the wrong motivations.
Ryan Reynolds are probably not wrong. I don’t like switching on Disney and watching ‘The Dream, chasing promotion. The story of Gillingham’
'Carries his bag'?? Rob McElhenney is one of the most successful writers, director and producers in Hollywood for over a decade. Not defending Wexham etc, But do your homework Simon as due dilligence of broadcasting this podcast:(:(
But he isn't big here and his net worth isn't massive.
Why don't you both just stick to football and keep your jealous comments to yourselves
Dude he co-wrote and acted in a tv show. He ain't bloody Christopher Nolan, or Fincher, Scott, Tarantino, Cameron, Burton, Scorsese.....
Was the broadcast deal increase in the US market?
If not, then this seem less relevant.
Yes it increased 40 percent
Leeds have more Yank fans than Wrexham (sadly). Due to Marsch and Tyler Adams.
The idea that the EFL is being propped up by a tiny League 2 club is hilarious.
I live in Philly area and I assure you you are farrrr more likely to see a Wrexham jersey than a Leeds jersey on American streets.
I live in Chicago I don’t even know what a Wrexham is but I’ve heard of Leeds U
@@BurnNotice3210 0:11 Nope.
Overseas broadcast rights increased by 40% - not US
utter spin its Stockport County by a mile
Would have thought man u was the biggest internationally but im Wrexham all the way and from Australia and i dont even really like soccer "up the town"
His argument is odd, saying that because Rob and Ryan said a million was a lot to spend yearly when they were in the National League and clearly losing money doing so, that doesn't mean they can't afford $10 million if they were in higher league. Those leagues would give more money in broadcasting, ticket sales, merchandising, etc. Its not like $1 million was their budget the whole time no matter what league they're in, its relevant to money they can get back. Isn't that common sense?
Wrwzham will sokn find out simply buying players to win ganes is not gonna work when be reaches the champonship.
Your gonna need an actually manager.
Why can't Simon give out credit Wrexham are the English Football League. Why is Simon going on about money to why not talk about bringing in academy and load players give it time.
Well that's just not true is it. It existed for 100 years before Wrexham got promoted and the clubs who were part of it did the real hard work.
@@jwpm17 Are you supposed to be talking to me or someone else?
What's that got to do with the price of cheese
😂
Mmm,,, Cheese 🧀.!!!..
He never said it was an existential threat, he said that the goal is to make Wrexham sustainable. It's common sense that pumping an infinite amount of money in the club is not sustainable and the club needs to break even to maintain its success. I guess common sense isn't that common..
Ryan is right
The one thing wrexham did to gain a following is documented the history of the club and the town to get people with no connection…. Connected. For an American to watch and follow a club they need to feel a bond with that club.
Hugely disrespectful to Mac - the whole thing was HIS idea
Millwall are the most well known club worldwide in the EFL. I have travelled all over and everyone knows Millwall. Easily the biggest small club in the world.
Simon sits in front of data streams figuring out what statement he makes will give his channel most engagement, its business for him straight up.
Which is why he failed at ownership, because it was the first time he allowed his heart to be involved.
Oh the jealousy 😂😂
Wow, that guy sounds like a blast at parties. Miserable goof
