What is a comfirmed "F26Y", that has F350 on the fenders, 2-1/4 wide rear springs looks like 7 with 2 later added, with a 10th helper spring with factory end perches, 4-1/4 inch spacers on rear axle, 28" to inside of frame rails, gas tank in cab,, divorced transfer case, 3" wide front leaf springs 5 count, factory a/c, 4spd granny low, 390, 1976, ranger on the bed, custom on the glovebox? I'm sorry to ask all this. I just don't know much & I appreciate the help.

@@davidbaldwin1591 last thing to check is frame width. Highboys had a narrower frame than other fseries trucks. If you have that terrible steering system woth all the hoses going to a Control valve off of the pitman arm, its a highboy.

I must say, I miss my '76 F250 High boy. First year for front disc brakes and open knuckle front axle HD44 axle, last year of the gas tank behind the seat, mine had factory A/C and R12 , but was still a custom with the NP435 4 spd granny and NP205 divorced TC. Dana 60 rear axle with LS and 30 spline axles. Had the original 360 bored out .030 over and completely rebuilt with an Edelbrock performer intake, 600 Holley 4 BBL, Crane Fireball cam, and worked well with 4.10 gears and 9.00-16 Gumbo Wide mudders. The biggest thing that made it stand out was the original Dark metallic green, I really liked that color. I used to wax it with Eagle 1 carnauba wax, it really made it shine. It did produce a little over 300 rear wheel HP on the dyno, it impressed me at the time.

March of 77 is when the highboy ended. My dad and I ordered 77 f250’s in November of 76. .mine came in January, there was a mix up with my dads truck and it was delivered in March. His came with the wider 27” frame, high pinion 2 leaf spring front end. Integral power steering , married transfer case, tank in the back between the frame rails. My truck has the divorced transfer case, tank behind the seat, power assist power steering, 6 leaf front springs, 750-16 split rims tires and wheels.

My first truck when I was 16 was a 77’ F-250 and the hubs on it were huge, with red in the middle of them, tank behind the seat, the back of the bed was spring like all of them in Maine, I owned that truck for 15 years, had a 351 in it, I used to bury that truck every weekend on the power lines, I had older friends, so I was an alcoholic by the time I was 17, but they used to love to use me as the Guinea pig to see if I could make through some abyss of a mud hole, Kellys mud runs in Pittston, boy if that truck could talk I woulda been in a lot of trouble, I had a 73 1 ton 2 wheel, a 75 F-100 with a 3 on the tree, that one would burn the tires for miles, had a 76’ 150 with a blueprinted Butler MacMaster 390 in it, and that thing had more Ftlbs then the 460, had a 79 150 all of them were sweet trucks, wish I kept the 77 tho, my buddy bought it from me then sold it, but he still has one of the doors from mine on his plow truck, gotta get another one day, they were the best looking trucks ever built, now I run a 19’ F-150 with a 5.0 10 speed nice truck, but I still love the old fuel air and spark.

I had the 76 F-250 4x4 picked it up for $500 years ago sold it to a friend for a few bucks more after doing a little work to it. Nice trucks but you have to be careful of the Frames with these trucks, right where the Cab meets the Bed, they have a tendency to Rot out. We used to weld a continuous piece of backhoe steel, about 1/4 inch thick right under the cab as far as you could get to fit under the bed, in most cases a few feet. Other than that, really fun truck to drive.

I don't quite get your cold start with all the pedal action. I have a 78 with a 400.....very built....runs a edelbrock 4 barrel and the choke on that thing is a never fail deal, starts and runs perfect in all weather. My float bowls are with fuel for a few months after it has run, if longer I just let it crank a bit so the pump fills the bowls then hit the pedal once and the choke sets, bowls are full and its ignition time every time. I also have an advantage of a dual battery that runs in parallel, added it for the Hickey under bumper winch, it sure adds to the cranking power in real cold weather.

Yeah you don’t need the whole checklist idea to know if the truck is a HighBoy truck, all that does is complicate a very simple thing. Any 4x4 F250 from ‘67 models to ‘77 models are ALL HighBoy trucks. All ‘77.5 model F250 4x4 trucks and newer are NoT HighBoys.

A "highboy" is a goofy catch phrase. If it's an F250 from 67 to 77.5 then you have a basic standard 4x5 f250 for the era. "highboy" isn't a special package or anything it was how they were built at the time
