- Tammie is joined by Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, Highway Safety Division, OPP as they discuss the latest technological expansion for vehicles-an automatic license plate reader system, how it works and the OPP’s corvette on display at the Toronto auto show.
Maybe the cops should be there to help and protect there citizens instead of using AI to find new ways of ticketing them
Yes I like how they are using AI technology to get criminals of the streets.
Can't they do both? In theory doesn't this give them more staff/bodies to help and protect rather than using a human body to do the ticketing?
(Yes, they'll likely use this for cutting costs not using those bodies in other areas but that's a different convo)
@Mazes S A wait, what? You're saying the Union should argue against police doing their jobs? How do police do their job without coming into contact with dangerous ppl? So, if not the police, who's job is it to deal with the dangerous ppl?
Absolutely 100% correct
Just here collecting all this energy with my third eye 🫣, you are so right 🇨🇦👍
Right, because this is more important than I don't know, doing actual police work? Anything they can do to generate income for the government...
This is an invasion of privacy.
Let’s add more costs to the citizens the inflation is not working fast enough 🎉
it will be easy to forget to put insurance on your car/truck and when they hit you with the fine they will laugh at you handing u the 560.oo fine

Real question is the thousands of cars that are scanned and that did not have a violation, will their info be saved? If so they can basically retroactively trace where you have been and all sorts of patterns about your behavior. I personally would rather not this information be stored on a database, it's bad enough what you do online is stored.
I'm not in favor of any of this. Who voted for this bs
Every plate is getting saved. If the are on a stop the scanner will continue scanning and if there is a violation you'll get mail or a knock on the door
Details like the ones you pointed out are the kinds of things the police don't want you or anyone else to know. The cameras they talk about in this news piece, can actually link together in a mesh network, and have the capability to track the movement of EVERY CAR they scan, not just the "offenders" like they will have you believe. These little losses of our rights and freedoms will one day pile up so high that eventually, we will live in a full on police state, exactly like in the UK, where every single UK citizen has their movements captured, AND stored, by the massive closed circuit camera network installed in every corner, of every UK city and town. Its only a matter of time before they try the same thing here as well. These "infraction" cameras and "red light" cameras are just primers for eventual city/Country wide surveillance. If you honestly think that the Canadian police forces/Rcmp aren't creaming their slacks over the thought of being able to track every single Canadians movements, anywhere they go, you're living in lala land.
Servailence state is what Canada has turned into.

how dare government has any control over how people behave on government roads. Pave your own road and drive on it however you like!

@@tyren818 nope, I'm doing well. And never dyed my hair.
@@Handlebrake2 so why are you acting like a snowflake? Why shoulldn't the government have a right to govern on it's roads? There's no country that exists that doesn't do this, only countries that are too poor to afford to do this on their dirt roads.
Time for photo blocking technology to prevent this.
No badge cams yet? Huh
Of course not, why incriminate themselves?
@@KP-xi4bj you can create it

cash grab. parasites.
Yeah it's like almost foolproof...
Hackers needed to crash computers.
Actually, the parasites are the trash breaking laws, it won't cost people not breaking the law anything except the initial cost of those cameras, which as a tax payer, I support and so do most people who don't want trash driving. Of course if those trash that want to live outside of laws don't like it, they can do everyone a favour and buy a horse move to the mountains.

From experience elsewhere, it's amazing how many criminals and infractions they find. A real money maker.
This is one step closer to Justin's dream of China style control
It's ridiculous and waste of time to register a vehicle without sticker.
Wow can't believe they didn't have this already!
Yeah, isn’t it wonderful! I think Police should be checking on everybody even though they haven’t done anything.
Start scanning your personal records, etc.
So you will be investigated without committing an infraction. Nice!
This is already in the UK
i honestly thought they had this already lol
Yup; start investigating everybody even though they haven’t done anything.
And the average person home thinks it’s just fine !
How about body cameras that they can't turn off or mute.
That’s for our protection too, that holds the cops accountable for their actions and words.
and next it confirm if the vehicle belongs in the 15 min city it will notify of vaccine status it will notify of evething the WEF IS GOING TO NEED. SOON YOUR DOLLARS WILL BILL DIGITAL AND WILL TURN OFF WHEN YOU REACH YOUR CARBON ALLOWANCE
And the public will 1000% buy into that, just sad
Can the reader detect doug fords blue licence plates? Hmmm...

they have had the licence plate reader camera in traffic lights in BC for a 1 and 1/2 years now in BC
Paying thousands of dollars a year for the privilege of driving myself, it's offensive that so many are driving without any legal right to. Respecting a country's laws should be automatic.
At any point did you care to wonder WHY it cost so much?
As things get more and more expensive something will have to give

Do they see for insurance?
Exactly what I have in mind to ask
They have had it for a while my friend was busted and they have to administer the ticket
China has this 20 years ago and face scanning ID 5 years ago.
But a lot of drivers on the road already obscure their license plates or even scratch out the numbers so that they’re unreadable, and the police never bother stopping them. All the criminal drivers will just obscure their plates.
What about tinted windows? The rule used to be if the cops cannot see the driver then it's illegal. Plenty of cars with tinted windows on the road where you cannot see the drivers but do cops stop them? NOPE! They're too busy dunking their donuts into their coffees.
@@KP-xi4bj why do you care if someone has their windows tinteted?
