- A new film paints a portrait of the woman known in South Sudan as the "mother of the nation". The film follows Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior, who is the widow of revolutionary leader and national hero John Garang de Mabior, in her role as the country's vice president amid a fragile peace deal in the country. The portrait is remarkable for its intimate access as its director is also her daughter, Akuol de Mabior. She joined us for Perspective to tell us more about "No Simple Way Home".

As a South Sudanese actress, I feel prouder
I agree with Akuol. Being a South Sudanese makes one always feels that you should go back to your country even if it's burning. My friends often ask me why I want to when I have so many opportunities not just do well for myself outside the country. And to be honest, I don't know why I always want to be home. It has something to do with one's spirit because the word 'duty' that Akuol used doesn't fully explain it. It is just always there in our hearts; we have to go back home.
